I have some professors that very much don't want to be called Dr. despite having a Ph.D. and I'm only now beginning to understand why. I knew since I started college, I wanted to do further education, MSc or Ph.D. because in my field, you only get to teach or get paid for the cool research if you have an MSc at least, preferably a Ph.D. but now I'm starting to question whether I really want everything that comes with that. I would love learning and love being able to teach and research in a professional environment but everyone considers Ph.D.s pretentious and I don't want to be given that stereotype, or worse, become that stereotype. I know so little about things, and a Ph.D. won't fix that. All I want is the piece of paper to prove my dedication to making the world a better place through my science to an employer. I don't want to find myself in a social space where less than 10% of people see me as a normal human being.
