The longer the list, the more likely you have lived a full and interesting life.

And you will probably be a more humble person for it...

Even wise.

💥 ICYMI, Chairman Powell urged Congress today to raise the $31.4 TRILLION cap on borrowing as the U.S. Treasury Department will exhaust its ability to pay all its bills sometime between July and September. 😵😵😵 https://www.reuters.com/markets/us/feds-powell-sees-long-term-damage-if-us-debt-ceiling-not-raised-2023-03-07/

😵 Chair Powell, is it true that you are now paying $700MM every day in interest to banks, a number which will hit $800MM daily when rates hit 5.5%, resulting in record "unrealized losses" for US taxpayers?📉😱🖨💸

📈 shares interesting data that shows that zaps are growing. There is also a zap gap between senders and receivers (more senders than receivers). Keep zapping nostr! ⚡️👆
Zaps continue to grow on Nostr, but we're still incredibly early.

Zap senders vs Zap receivers is an interesting metric. It looks like we have only about 8,000 people that are sending Zaps and only about 6,000 people are that receiving them.

📊 hints that he is working on NIP-69 Polls feature in NostrGram where you vote for a poll with a zap! 🗳⚡️
FYI I'm working with #[0] to implement #[1]'s NIP69 for Nostr polls where you ⚡ to vote. I love the idea. Will be working on it this week.

💜 If you follow then you know about his nostr pup, Dorado, who became acutely ill and required emergency surgery. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family and Dorado. We hope he has a speedy recovery! 🐶🤒
This is the first picture of Dorado we ever saw, sent to me by an amazing lady in the Hudson Valley who rescues puppies from a shelter in Puerto Rico. He’s the one looking directly at the camera, of course. The one in front of him is his brother who was adopted by another family.

We instantly knew he was the one. Now we just want to give him a chance to run around and play another day. He’s not even 3 years old yet. ❤️‍🩹🐶

Read this 🔥take on custodial lightning services by
hot take: I get that custodial lightning is not remotely decentralized, sovereign, trustless, etc. - all that good shit …

… but is nobody else outrageously excited by how much of an improvement over fiat it is? not just in its own right but even explicitly in terms of decentralisation, sovereignty, and trustlessness?

it strikes me as a key vector of bitcoin driving jurisdictional arbitrage, for one. say some authoritarian regime cracks down on bitcoin (whatever that ends up meaning in practice, doesn’t really matter) and makes it politically risky to run a node, or manage liquidity, or be seen as “transmitting money”, or whatever. if there is a trustworthy custodial lightning provider *literally anywhere in the world* you can anonymously spin up the ability to receive payments in seconds. “anonymously” and “in seconds” are both groundbreaking advances if you have any familiarity whatsoever with fiat banking and payment rails.

if you think about it, you actually can’t get this with “real” lightning either. it’s not instant (to set up) and you need to know people who presumably trust you to some small extent to get to the point of workable liquidity and stay there (perhaps under-discussed, but if channel partners “don’t trust you”, they will close or never open, and you can’t use lightning at all. WhO’s TrUsTlEsS nOw HuH?!?)

so yes, this requires trust, but like, fuck me, so does everything in real life 😂 - being overly negative on this strikes me as a kind of core fallacy of appreciating open and decentralized systems: that it’s a spectrum, not a binary. how open and decentralized the foundation is represents the maximum openness and decentralisation of anything built on top, *not the minimum*!

moving away from completely closed and centralised does not necessitate the opposite, it opens up an entire range of new possibilities, all of which come with tradeoffs. but tradeoffs are relative to circumstances in real life, and in real life, selective trust is very much a thing because We LiVe In A sOcIeTy 🤪 - talking about tradeoffs in absolute terms as if the decision to accept them can be made entirely devoid of context is highly regarded. and this isn’t even to get into the rather obvious line of argument that if you want people to ever get to the extreme, having a spectrum to gradually move along is far more appealing than requiring them to jump in at the deep end. i.e. it’s also amazing for adoption.

in conclusion, don’t be highly regarded. support adoption. agree with my hot take. gm, pv 🤙

lays out a list of "low-hanging fruit" that can be taken over by Nostr (eg, Medium, GitHub, Google Doc replacements) and points out that "[Other stuff] doesn't get enough credit." 🍎🍒🍐
“Other stuff”

doesnt get enough credit.

argues that badges are not NFTs, and that they will bring about interesting use cases to Nostr users. 🎖🏅🏆
No, Badges Are Not NFTs. Here's what they could potentially be used for

- Badges are not NFTs
- 1) they're not tokens on a blockchain
- 2) currently they cannot be transferred from user to user (only from issuer to user)
* - IF badges ever gain an ability to become transferable, you can probably expect degen markets similar to NFTs pop-up but for now this currently isn't the case
- Can issuers sell badges? Yes but I'd recommend only buying one if the issuer is providing real value in having the opportunity to own this badge.
- 3) there is no set limit or cap to how many badges can be created by an issuer. If you're told you're buying a 1/1 badge, you still have to trust that the issuer wont decide to issue more badges at a later date.

- What are some of the use cases of Badges?
- 1) Simple badge of honor (identifies you as part of a specific group of people or can act as an individual reward if the badge is chose to be issued 1/1 by the issuer)
- There doesn't need to be a monetary figure attached to something for someone to value it so people can simply enjoy badges even if they understand there isn't a way for them to be able to monetize it.
- Badges are able to be proudly displayed on user profiles for a few Nostr clients already.
- 2) Entry 'Pass Keys' to private chats, message boards, subscriptions, exclusive content, etc...
- Private Chat board moderators can issue badges to Nostr users in the same manner as an account login. Thus badges can be used to unlock access into any nostr client that wishes to build a walled garden of focused content & communication.
- This can apply to all kinds of message boards built around, for example, specific musicians, sports teams, politics, jobs, technology, private torrent trackers, etc...
- Content creators can use and issue badges to paid subscribers in order to unlock access to exclusive content they're offering such as say a weekly substack blog or a fan club that offers exclusive merch, discounts, AMAs, 'behind the scenes looks', music, market insight, etc...
- Adding a feature for a Nostr user to be able to request a badge seems like a likely future feature that will be added to frictionlessly connect users to the access & content that they seek.
- 3) Badges can be used as an identifier to be able to connect to other 'like minded Nostr users'
- For example, say I'm a fan of the band 'The Misfits' and I'm also a fan of Bitcoin, I can utilize the 'Bitcoin Fiend Club' badge to search for other Nostr users who own that badge so that I can follow them through Nostr.

tl;dr - no badges aren't NFTs, yes there are utilities that can be created around badges, I've explained a few & many more likely exist that many of us haven't even thought of yet.

Happy building!

explains new private zap feature that App store users will encounter in v1.2.0, which dropped yesterday. ⚡️⚡️
Hello App Store users! Important things to know about Zaps ⚡️ in this version:

v1.2.0 has private zaps, these are zaps that look anonymous to everyone except the person receiving the zap. Only they can see who it was from and the message inside.

Your identity and messages is end to end encrypted to the user, and its not like DMs where people can see the metadata. It’s completely private!

You can access private zaps and other zap customization settings by long pressing the zap button. You can also change your single-tap zap amount in settings.

Happy zapping!
