You know what I love about Bob Barker, so I'm watching the price is right and a contestant named Madelyn was playing this game called cliff hangers. They thought she said $22 instead of what she actually said, $32 for one of the prizes which caused the animated man to move too far the wrong direction. The prize was worth $29. Instead of not taking responsibility for their mistake, Bob did the exact opposite, he acknowledged that his people got it wrong and then gave the lady the prize anyway. Such a classy thing to do. From now on, for all nodes:
- Minimum size: 10M sats
- Maximum size: 30M sats, but it scales up to 500M sats if the opening node has a lot of capacity. The actual max is about 10% of the requesting node's total public capacity.
The reject message is now much clearer about the problem and shows exactly the range of channel sizes you are allowed to open (if the requested size is out of that range).
I used to check for many things (available sockets, number of channels, terminal score, and latency) and even had a higher minimum size for large nodes, but all of that made things too complex and hard to explain.
From now on, just a simple channel size range and that's it.

I think you misinterpreted my blog post. I did not imply that the 2010s status quo was OK, and I did not write that "history of currency" = "2010s status quo". I simply wrote that this was the situation, and that it remained pretty stable for a relatively long time (1980-ish - 2010-ish, which is insanely long in the context of the current pace of things). This has nothing to do with the definition of "modern world", which I picked as "history of currency" in a totally arbitrary way to serve the storyline of the blog post.
What I further wrote is that whether this status quo was better or worse than the current financial crypto anarchy is a matter of perspective. I, for one, if had absolutely to pick one, would prefer the old way. But I wish we could do better, and my blog post was meant to give some proposals for going in that direction.

Sollte zwar eigentlich Schulwissen sein, ist aber vielen Leuten überhaupt nicht bewußt, was da in der Küche steht und brummt.
