I blog over on the Hive blockchain and made a little game called "Wusang" (World's Ultra Simple Asset Numbers Game). It's a stupid-simple game with a pirate treasure story. A bot generates a random number, you maybe find a hidden treasure token.
This week I added #cashu #ecash as a "treasure chest" to be found. There are hidden bitcoin sats out there in the wild to be discovered. Find the ecash token, get the sats. Simple.

I tried to read the Minneapolis' Fed's [paper about bitcoin](https://www.minneapolisfed.org/research/working-papers/unique-implementation-of-permanent-primary-deficits). I made it through the first sentence before I said, "Forget this."

The paper reads:
>Imagine and economy, specified in continuous time, in which the government issues stock and pays a flow of non-negative dividends.
Three phrases stood out to me in that sentence.
1. "Imagine an economy" - I actually like this start. I'm nerdy enough to enjoy a good though experiment. And, "imagine an economy" is pretty good bait to hook me in. Economists often imagine places like an island or a prison or a remote village, all with limited resources, then go from there.
2. "in continuous time" - I think, "Huh?" Continuous time? As compared to time that is not continuous? Time that morphs back and around? Is this set our imagined economy apart from some science-fiction wormhole? I really have no idea what this term "continuous time" means or why they felt it necessary to specify this type of time up front. Immediately, I have a strong hunch as to where this is going...this paper is intended to be written with a academician's linguistic style that intends to confuse. Frankly, this style of writing is used as a weapon. It linguistic bullying toward a reader. This paper would write in such a convoluted manner where every sentence is contingent on, and qualified by, other statements or phrases. If anyone wishes to convey a point, write simply and clearly to convey that point. In my view, this paper would not do this.
3. "non-negative dividends" - Okay, writing gymnastics aside, now we're just making stuff up. "Non-negative dividends" paid by the government? Never heard it put that way. Usually, dividends to stock shareholders are simply called, "dividends." The very fact that they label them as "non-negative dividends" begs the assumption that there must be "negative dividends." I've never heard it put that way, but "negative dividends" <u>is what's called "taxes"</u>. And, yes, I guess governments do pay out negative dividends all the time.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm all for the government cutting back on its steady flow of negative dividend payments.

What kind of bizarro clown world did I wake up in?
The FED bank of Minneapolis wrote about "useless pieces of paper (bitcoin for short)" and that "the price of bitcoin converges to zero."
Umm...considered fiat currency?
And yet, the only solutions to this alleged bitcoin problem is to either ban it (a "legal prohibition against bitcoin") or tax it.
Somehow, bitcoin is worthless and headed to zero, but yet it's still worthy of being taxed so as to balance deficits.
I'm so confused.

People are betting on who HBO will name as the supposed Satoshi. I find it weird that such a possibly human-manipulated "bet" could be or should be on the books. News flash: those people who made the documentary know who is named as Satoshi. I totally hear you! And that's my point...it's too high. I'm not sure how we got used to any number above 0 as "okay" inflation. Any percent above 0 is that much of your income being reduced yearly. Getting that 2% annual income boost is a farce...we didn't gain anything. And if inflation is above 2% (which it is), we lost money.

I've written before something to the effect that, given the revolutionary impact of #bitcoin, the Satoshi identity might be the biggest mystery since...well, I'm not really sure since when. But, I feel bitcoin is the most revolutionary idea/invention in economics since Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations in 1776. Maybe it's the most revolutionary one ever because bitcoin is Adams' capitalism automated and auto-running, independent of man's whims and combining so many various intellectual fields (econ, math, comp sci, game theory, human psych, physics, sociology, politics and governance, more).

HBO evidently has a documentary coming out next Weds, 10/10 where they've "identified" Satoshi. We'll see.
I'll make my call right here:
- It'll be one of the usual suspects, my guess is either Nick Szabo or Wei Dai. I'ld guess Szabo.
- They'll offer up as "evidence" a document or email that has previously been unseen, something from early 2008, or even prior, referencing bitgold for Szabo or b-money for Dai.
- And that will be essentially the crux of it. There won't be a transaction signed by Satoshi's keys.
- I'll offer one wildcard prediction because it's fun. They might ID a science fiction author. I don't read sci-fi (maybe I should), but I understand that sci-fi authors almost always pre-write almost every innovation that's ever happened. I could see them referencing a bitcoinesque currency or idea in a sci-fi novel and them naming the author as Satoshi.

I really appreciate your kind words. I really like the chronology of the thing. When you go through all of Satoshis words, the dates and times and how he interacted with others, you start to get a glimpse into his mind. Satoshi also seemed polite, clear, logical, oractical, and professional to me.

After push-mowing for an hour and 20 minutes, and with a van-sized patch of grass left to go, my mower starts surging...essentially out if gas. Darn, now I gotta, stop, go get the gas, refuel,put the gas back, restart the mower, just to finish one tiny splotch.
Oh no, its on! I start mowing in 2X mode, literally mowing in circles, get a bit dizzy. The surging gets worse so that I have only seconds before it goes conks out...

I'm not sure I follow, but the title "Kicking the Hornet’s Nest" is derived from Satoshi's quote (see page 490 of Kicking at https://crrdlx.vercel.app/kicking/Kicking_the_Hornets_Nest-e3-20240616.pdf). As far as knowing who Satoshi is, I used to think it would come out in time. Now, I'm starting to question that. I still think it will at some point, but maybe in decades from now.

Apparently, nostr somehow uses the same tech as taproot. I think the nostr keys being the same or in the same format. I really don't know. Someone, might have been Melvin, explained to me that nostr can somehow intrinsically hold bitcoin ordinals (which exist because of taproot).
We need an explained for dummies on this.

Recently, I've been trying to decipher a question that seems simple: "Did Satoshi write these emails?" There are three emails in question involving two people (other than Satoshi):
- Wei Dai (two emails)
- Jon Matonis (one email)
For the back-story, I wrote about this conundrum at https://stacker.news/items/691013 The upshot for my ponderance is that the NakamotoInstitute.org (BTC-friendly) does *not* include these emails, but the NakamotoStudies.org (BCH-friendly) site *does*. I wondered, "What's up?" Is this a BTC-vs.-BCH blockchain thing? A block size thing?" Frankly, I don't care. I just want to know if Satoshi wrote them.
Regarding Wei Dai, the general consensus in the SN comments linked above was that I should go to the source...go to Wei Dai and ask. If real Satoshi-emails, then either he or Satoshi released them "into the wild" at some point and then they started to appear on various websites. 'Til maybe now, I hadn't seen that release point.
The Dai/Satoshi emails mostly pop up in two places in a search: bitcoin.com and gwern.net. I was familiar with bitcoin.com (and thus was a bit skeptical), but was unfamiliar with gwern.net. Was it just another bitcoin website? Anyone can make one. Was there an agenda? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So, going to the source, I reached out to Wei Dai via email today. We'll see.
Digging around, Wei Dai's site https://weidai.com says any questions can be posted publicly at https://www.lesswrong.com/ as an AMA. I went there. The "release point," evidence of Wei Dai sending out those emails may well be recorded there.

The page on gwern.net is still live at https://gwern.net/doc/bitcoin/2008-nakamoto. Being healthily skeptical, I looked for that page on the Internet Archive Wayback Machine. Unfortunately, that page is only first archived [in 2023](https://web.archive.org/web/20230208163356/https://gwern.net/doc/bitcoin/2008-nakamoto). But, gwern.net does go back to [2010](https://web.archive.org/web/20101011153322/http://www.gwern.net/) and the first bitcoin mention there seems to be [July of 2011](https://web.archive.org/web/20110723141839/http://www.gwern.net/), so, it was early.
The bottom line here, to me at least, is that Wei Dai's emails seem legit. Assuming the timestamps are legit, and that the emails being discussed from Wei Dai are indeed the same ones that gwern has on his site, then they're legit. It would take quite a bit of foresight to plan this out, starting 10 years ago, for this to be fake. The fact that the timestamp is pre-BCH, pre-block size wars is a big plus in my view as to the emails being legit. Those were the main reasons a question even arose in my mind, that and the NakamotoInstitute.org vs. NakamotoStudies.org exclusion/inclusion.
My next question, then, is back to NakamotoInstitute.org. Why, actually, are the Wei Dai emails not there? There must be a reason, and if a solid reason, why not share that reason publicly?
I reached out to NakamotoInstitute.org asking effectively, "Why are the Wei Dai and Jon Matonis emails not included? Not judging, just honestly curious." We'll see.
Regarding the Jon Matonis emails. I'd never even heard of him until this week. If you need a program to know the players, like me, he's apparently the former Executive Director of the Bitcoin Foundation (see [Wikipedia article](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitcoin_Foundation)). It seems a bit hard to pin down what he's up to today. I will say one of the top hits when searching for his name pops up with [cypherpunkholdings.com...](https://cypherpunkholdings.com/about-us/board-of-directors/jon-matonis/) under "board of directors," complete with "cyphepunk" misspelling (screenshot below) What's more, that link forwards to a Solana DeFi project. Hmm.

I had a coworker talk about a situation today that seems crazy to me. She needs some money for something, home repair I believe. She wants to take some money out early from the company IRA (I didn't know we even had one). Bottom line, she was told she needs the company's approval first. "To get my own money?" Well, there are signing extensions like Alby and nos2x, and there is nsec.app which uses a "bunker". They take away the need to enter an nsec (which is dangerous because it only takes one oopsie to a scam site and your nostr "account" is compromised. Wow, https://nostrudel.ninja keeps getting better and better. This latest release seems to "rank" zaps from highest to lowest, left to right. This is terrific in that it effectively gamefies zapping by incentivizing zappers to up-their-zap. In essence, this then becomes a zap-auction where the zap "winner" winds up at the leftmost position, that is, the most visible and spotlighted position. This position, in turn, ostensibly should lead to increased numbers of followers for that leading zapper. With Mutiny shutting down, I've been researching other wallets and trying things. Feels like trying to settle on a #Linux distribution! Lots of options, pros and cons. Just for hodling a few sats on the lighntning network, I've messed with and like Alby and Phoenix, but seem to be narrowing in on the Green wallet. Still testing though. #bitcoin be not for the faint of heart!

Nope, I'm not buying this alleged change of heart. When I hear "crypto for kamala" I really hear "we want donations too." This is is person who just called for "oversight" of social media, similar to what Brazil is doing with X. She and Democrats largely will do the same with #bitcoin and crypto. You saying what you want and you doing what you want with your money, without approval, is not an option.
