How does one specify the private host ssh key with :nixos: #NixOS?
- putting in nix store is no-go (publicly readable for all users)
- agenix (and sops-nix?) has a bootstrapping problem: It itself needs the secret ssh host key to decrypt all the secrets.
So how does one then bring up a VM or a new fresh installation? How to specify the user passwordfiles then? This was a major roadbump during my last NixOS install on my laptop.

Is it possible to "stream" :gitannex: #gitAnnex files? Like: I want to get the first few lines of that 10Gb CSV file but don't have the diskbspace to fully download it. E.g.:

A workaround is to interrupt a `git annex get` shortly after launch, but it might not even allow getting the file when low on disk space, right? 🤔

😮‍💨 sigh... So :nixos: #NixOS really has no nice mechanism to *both*:
· declaratively specify wireless networks (works with networking.wireless, but not with networking.networkmanager)
· run scripts after e.g. network connection is up (works with networkmanager.dispatcherScripts, but no built-in way with wpa_supplicant - wpa_cli -a actions-script seems to be it but has be be manually fiddled with)

ZIP seems to be capitally broken on Linux. I was not able to produce a ZIP file of a folder hierarchy with umlauts / special characters in it. This apparently works when made on Windows.
zip --version is also from 2008 wtf?

Someone made another easily movable #HoneycombStorageWall insert ('quickfix' [2]) that looks an awful lot like my #Screwiverse [1] design approach. They put it under a locked-down license and didn't make it a remix of the original HSW (which would also require a slightly more open license).

@npub1hg2…k372 No, it wouldn't use the info, but that's just a matter of implementation.
You can put any info into git annex metadata, e.g.:
git annex metadata --set artist=DaftPunk --set album=RAM -t cool -t chill -t pop those/files/with/daftpunk
You can then use views to have git annex make a new branch with artist/album structure:
git annex view artist='*' album='*'
Or just folders named like the tags:
git annex view tag='*'
And much more. It's quite cool!

:gitannex: #gitAnnex's built-in file deduplicationis is not only useful to save disk space, but also to catch certain errors in your data pipeline:
If after several days of data processing and producing new files from others, git-annex says everything is already synced up, it's an indication that you messed up - like hard-coding the input file path in the script 🤦 😑 😅

I chose a kinda print-in-place approach:
The print is paused right before the case is closed, then the moving part is manually removed from the bed with a little snap-off helper lid at the side put into the case. This works much more reliably than anything I tried with glueing or closing the case otherwise or trying to to actual print in place (failed miserably 😅).
A drop of e.g. silicone oil and the operation is very smooth!

I finally made it: an XOR mechanism that requires exactly one of two keys to be inserted at a time. I call it the 🗝️ #keyguardian.
This is very useful for example to track where important small things go: Want to take the car keys? You have to insert your name tag so unlock it.
I made it with #SolveSpace and I'll put everything on #Printables soon. 😊

I wanted to save some print time and remembered your idea @npub134n…sx9t to just leave out the bottom and top layers. It indeed cuts down the print time dramatically! And apparently the print is still strong enough to hold three full glass bottles of water, even though that's just a 0.4mm nozzle print!

I think it's amazing how you can get from nothing to a fully parametric #STL of a toy screwdriver in eight lines of #Python code with #sdfCAD.
If I had tried the same in a graphical #CAD software, it'd probably taken me ages. Also, none of the buttery smooth curves the #sdf - based approach makes so easy.

I'm not a native English speaker, but it seems wrong to me that 'analysed' is hyphenated 'anal-ysed'. Online services say that². I'd have said 'ana-lysed', at least PONS¹ seems to do it like that. chatGPT says 'analy-sed'. 🙄

I very often have to 'rm -rf ~/.cache/nix' so I can continue working with 'nix flake ...'. Either it's weird errors that some path in /nix/store/... is not found or it does not use update the flake from the specified url but uses an old version.
I'm sure there is a better way than manually nuking the cache? 🤔

#latexmk is great for auto-compiling your documents.
However, it fails in some cases and I'm currently bitten by a nasty one:
- \includgraphics'ed PDF is corrupt (It's a missing, unlocked #gitAnnex/@datalad file)
- that stops biblatex from properly finishing the .bcf XML file
- *before* fetching the missing PDF (with #DataLad), latexmk runs biber on the now corrupt .bcf (fails and deletes the .bbl)
- vicious cycle repeats literally forever - latexmk is in an endless loop 🙄

TIL that apparently @npub1uwa…z36q can be controlled entirely from Python. The Python console that shows exactly what you're doing in the GUI is absolutely sick!
So can one replay a workflow from start to finish? Does that make a FreeCAD design version-controllable? Can the Python code be streamed to file?
Very exciting! (I have never used FreeCAD before)

I am unsure whether to learn :rust: #Rust or :haskell: #Haskell next. (Not that I have time to, but one may dream, right? 😉).
Knowing Haskell would allow me to contribute to some software I deeply care about (#hledger, :gitannex: #gitAnnex). Rust on the other hand looks *much* easier to get going with coming from #Python (and embedded #C / #Cpp). Its cargo toolchain and ecosystem also looks nicer, plus easier availability on all architectures (aarch64!).

A bit flip in something like a borg backup could surely have more devastating consequences and potentially cause more than one file being broken, right? #GitAnnex can at least do something about bit flips (auto-get or tell you where to get it from), fancy backup systems will just choke, won't they? 🤔

Restoring a broken local repo is then a matter of cloning from those remotes, done. If that is not a backup system, I don't understand what is 😅
