I am pretty sure it's not a hardware issue, it's Windows that is a super heavy OS even when compared to one of the most complete Linux environments (KDE Plasma).
In a historical period in which there is more and more talk about saving energy for environmental reasons, how is it possible that nobody talks about these heavy operating systems? How much energy would be saved by trashing Windows once and for all?

I recently had my Linux laptop (from 2017) next to a Windows one (circa 2020).
Mine never started the fans and its surface remained cool despite the high temperature of the room while I used it. I know by experience that it starts the fans only when downloading and applying system updates (a matter of minutes).
The Windows laptop instead was just booted and left unused, it did literally nothing for hours. And for the whole time the fans where running at full speed and the bottom was very hot.

I understand why people use Windows: because it's the default, they are used to it and for programs that only run on it.
But MacOS? It's awful for usability and productivity with its nonexistent window management and you bound yourself to the whole ecosystem of one of the worst corporations ever.
Just one thing: Apple promotes Bitcoin, one of the biggest waste of energy ever, it consumes more energy than some whole countries just for a speculation game.

It annoys me a lot too, I feel like a foreigner because I never cared about #PKM (as intended today) before trying #Logseq two years ago and this whole PKM trend looks very odd to me. The other software I use has many years (more than 15 in some cases). And I already feel like Logseq has lost its momentum in a too competitive space.

That post about "eco collapse" ended up in my timeline because you shared it.
Apparently many people I follow for other reasons decided it's a good time to reshare this kind of post, literally making Mastodon useless for me.
Basically no one mention #vegan or a #plantbased diet as something important everyone can do and indeed vegan people are 3% at best in Western countries.
This discrepancy needs to be fixed.

The main reason #Logseq is still my favourite #PKM app despite very good alternatives like #SiYuan, #Affine and #AnyType is queries.
I think one can't really appreciate Logseq until they integrate queries in their workflow.
But I hate that Simple Queries syntax is too limited and I need Advanced Queries syntax (i.e. #Datalog ) too often.

For me the issue comes from calling people vegan on the first place. There should be just vegan products and the idea of ending exploitation of non-human sentient beings: the former would be just a tool to accomplish the latter, with also additional advantages some people may appreciate.
Then, everyone would do what they can without trying to stretch the meaning to get the vegan label for themselves.

I have suggested Matrix as a better protocol for the Fediverse for years 😆, just not for this particular issue.
They say it's bloated. But to solve issues AP has we would end up with something like Matrix anyway.
I am not 100% sure but when it comes to using the same account with different "applications" (other than instant messaging) Matrix already comes with that in mind.

Mastodon and Pixelfed are compatible to some degree when it comes to communications between servers:
Mastodon instance <-> Pixelfed instance
because they both talk the so called ActivityPub server-server protocol
But everything between the user (so a client, a UI, something...) and the server is specific to Mastodon or Pixelfed
AP client-server protocol exists but it is not implemented and in general it doesn't fit much this use case. We would need another better protocol

Yeah for me too, especially if some functionalities won't be available for the MD/Org version, becoming a second-class support (like Org already is compared to MD).
Instead SiYuan uses a JSON file for each page, but it has excellent MD, PDF, ePub etc export support (via #Pandoc). And I am liking it.
Now I am exploring #Djot (by the author of Pandoc and Commonmark) instead of MD and I think it could be very good to store hidden metadata that now pollute #Logseq's MD files.

Yeah while Logseq seems to have issues with the development and if I have to make a guess, I'd say that since Logseq started as a personal project and later a team of devs was introduced to the codebase, maybe they are not enough comfortable with it.
It's a good practice in software development to introduces other people as soon as possible to keep the codebase clean and understandable.
In SiYuan instead they are literally two people developing it for three years.

FYI the team said the database version (as opposed to Markdown/Org files) will have timestamps for each block because the performance would be acceptable.
And I see a lot of commits in the DB-version branch on Logseq's repo, so I guess it will be available in the next months.

I don't know if this is what you mean but in Logseq you can use namespaces in tags to differenciate their meaning, for example #Logseq tag would mean "this is ABOUT Logseq" while #class/person/author would mean "this IS a person and in particular an author".
In queries you can filter out the whole "class" namespace for example.
But you can also use properties like class:: [[person/author]] that have the advantages of being columns in the queries' table view.

About the relational DB case, what format are you thinking about? Because I would like a format that not only store the data but also the "views" (for example giving to a query a name and visualization properties to reuse it across applications) and functions (like sum of a column elements).
About the canvas, Obsidian published its spec too. I also like Tldraw format but both are too specific and not a generic spec for all the use cases. That's why Logseq has its own.

I do something like this in #Logseq with the advantage that a query can return all the sections of a specific type across a selection of pages.
It's very handy to review notes without having to browse multiple pages.

The idea is that data is distributed encrypted to the machines of different users in different regions, with some redundancy, to prevent losing data when one or more servers go offline for whatever reason (fires or natural disasters happen and data centers have been affected in the past).
I know it is used by companies, institutions, universities etc.

Oooh #Djot support also "+" to start a list, not only - and *, this is perfect!
The + could be used to encode the "collapsed" state of a block instead of something like {%collapsed%} or 'collapsed:: true' like #Logseq does!
And it is also nice that a "-" looks like a minus as in "click here to collapse the block" while the "+" resemble a button to show more so perfect to "expand the block".

The AST has a "definition_list" that group multiple "definition_list_item" (i.e. each line), the words between the two ":" are exacted and called "term" (the term that is being defined, in my case the key).

The lists that uses ":" instead of - or * are called "definitions" in Djot and could be used for sections' properties.
By looking at the AST, it should be easy to parse it and in general convert between a structured data format like JSON and this one.

I just found the button! Wow this is so convenient, especially the backlinks appearing on hover and that you can pin!
I hope they will let the those dialogs become their own windows like the ones for page-refs.
I thought nothing could beat Logseq PDF annotations but this is better. Once again Logseq lacking UI is holding it back.

Yes, years ago I created sort of plugins for the #KDE Dolphin file manager and every time I need to convert documents I select them in a bunch and then right click -> convert to [format]. It still amaze people when they see me doing it.

This does not mean that I am against plugin platforms, in fact, app developers should themselves provide more high-quality plugins in my opinion. And ideally plugin development should be more cohesive as in communities like KDE and not through personal projects.

I prefer native support to third party plugins too: those are developed by different people that don't talk each other, there is no guarantee they will work well together, there is always functionality overlap, you have to choose between different plugins doing the same things with pros and cons. Also plugins developers tend to disappear and abandon their projects, that sometimes need a lot of commitment to keep up with platform changes. Not to mention security issues...

The cool thing is that the query results don't update automatically when you change the current page: this way you can click sequentially on different results like it was an index!
And to refresh the query and make it refers to the new current page one just need to collapse then re-expand the query.
Very convenient.

In the screenshot above, the Italian "Pagina attuale" stands for Current page.
The queries below are:
- Mentions of the current page in indexes
- Indexes in the current page
- Notes about the current page
- Current page as author (of books, quotes, ...)

I realized only recently that when in #Logseq you place queries in the right sidebar, the current-page variable refers to the current page in the main view!!
So I created a page called "Current page" and placed there some useful queries, like the one that look for mention of the current page in indexes, to realize a convenient UI to browse polyhierarchies.

Yes, it is tempting for me too but for now I am OK to use it to browse my Logseq graphs and I will keep an eye on it.
And I forgot to mention that it can display PDFs but it doesn't support annotations yet. It also has native cover image and icon for pages and a UI to pick them.
Notable plugins include:
1. Display Web pages as SiYuan tabs (very useful)
2. Importer of MD, EPUB, DOCX etc
3. Excalidraw for drawings
4. SQL queries

Even if SiYuan plugins had not access to some export API (I didn't check), since pages are just JSON files on your hard disk you can read them programmatically (but I don't know if SiYuan will play well if you edit them too) 😄

P.S. just yesterday I realized there is a #Logseq feature that is a game changer for me, it's about taking advantage of the <%current page%> variable in queries placed in the right sidebar.
It's for things like this that I am still using Logseq. I will post a guide on the forum ASAP.
