Btw, speaking of mistakes, I notice that too few people are willing to point people out of them, which to me feels like so many lost opportunities to improve. But I digresses...

@npub16uk…pv7k They may genuinely be unaware of making mistakes. Say when English isn't their first language.
Assuming the intent to show off feels far-fetched to me.
Still, appreciate the a brief lesson to so I don't sound off as often :).

@npub18kf…npv5 Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm dying to know if you've considered some cooperation with the two biggest community networks, Guifi.net and Freifunk?
These two endeavors had been the more prominent beacons of building digital infrastructure for the people (and for the most part by the people too). They must be having tonnes of knowledge and practice in building networks with the similar ethos.
Seems like a luster of synergy to be had.

@npub18kf…npv5 That's a lovely mission. Though I can't shake the feeling that you're trying to foster the people's internet with a venture capitalist's toolbox.
A practical question if you don't mind:

Shouldn't tools for the commons be built in more collaborative environments? Following Conway's law, the systems we build replicate the organizational structure that built them.

@npub16uk…pv7k FSFE has (had?) a program promoting this idea under the slogan 'public money-public code'.
Imho, the states are usually inept in the tech sector so much that they usually get subverted by the usual industry players. With the libre going being rather inadequate, e.g. EU's NGI, NLNet and few others which work more like startup seed funds rather than building a sovereign tech infra.
Pains me a lot.

@npub16uk…pv7k I'm already trusting a lot of math to work the way a number of trusted people say it works. That includes most all of the cryptography that I use to maintain a modicum of control over privacy. Got to trust somebody after all.

@npub16uk…pv7k I'm secretly (well not really) waiting for zero knowledge proof protocols to become feasible to run something like country wide voting where it'd be possible to have all kinds of mathematical proofs without abusing privacy.
Though I'm not privy on the math there.

The voting... I don't know much about it frankly, importantly how the auditable it is.

@npub16uk…pv7k Estonia for example has this. The government issues every citizen a smart card which has a bunch of keys. These are then used to do interact with the gov services, banks, etc. I can sign things, manage bank accounts without resorting to handwritten signatures, vote, etc.
It's not ideal though, the cards need to be reissued every n years, software support sucks unless you're willing to use ubuntu or debian.
Also, a friend won't tell a friend to use gpg, unless both are hacker peers
