Technical take-home assessment for interview done. I'm having trouble with my former and hopefully future colleague's insistence that I should leave it at "completed the task, good enough" because I totally want to rebuild their sample DB and now that I'm learning pandas and scikitlearn stuff, I wanna redo the whole assignment in a Jupyter notebook...

This is simple and clear, very nice explainer!
You can make some substitutions here, using any corporate/commercial monolithic site for “Twitter” and pointing out that “Mastodon” is not the network or the Fediverse, just one of many interconnecting applications available. Depends on how complicated you want to get or where your contact has their base of familiarity.

I swear I could be talked into selling my kid some days …
I HATE hate hate hate the sound of whistling, with one or two astounding exceptions in the case of actual musicians who can hit exact and very clear tones. Otherwise it’s like off-key fingernails on a blackboard to me.
My kid learned to whistle around 3 years of age AND HAS NEVER STOPPED. WANDERS AROUND DOING IT CONSTANTLY. Kid is now 11.
Kid also likes to stim by making repeated, nonsensical, high-pitched noises of ALL sorts.

Today’s reports have been suspended by us. We’re keeping an eye on this, and I’m going to raise it on the Mastodon Discord.
Mastodon.Social in fact has invested more in community moderation than any other instance, UNfortunately there continues to be escalation of inauthentic content they have to keep up with.
I’m also seeing some very, very convincing fakes that I fear evade moderation for some time. Please keep reporting.

There is a book - series, actually, fiction - that started in I think the late 80’s, I read it in the 90’s, and it NAILED the rise of personal-pocket-communication AND the resulting social media hellscape we now have. A couple years before TB-L figured out a hyperlink.

Also as I discussed offside with another user: all this panic is missing the biggest thing here - it GOES BOTH WAYS. Hours away from my first flight in nearly 5 years. Just domestic travel from my local airport, but I am all kinds of on edge, everything from
“is my mask enough” to “are they going to try to say my carry-on is too heavy” to “how much can I stash in my pockets and stuffable travel pillow so my carry-on isn’t as heavy”.

Hi everyone.
Mastodon.social is back out of quarantine for us. We'll continue to watch for these activity abuses.
It's good to note that again, the problem was largely dealt with by the time other instances are able to react, many of the reports to us come in after things are already dealt with and we just need to clean up, which is nice.
Thanks again for your vigilance. Mastodon (the SW development group) continues to work on tools and structures to help with these things.

We aim to use defederation only as a last resort if we find an entire instance exists to purposefully violate something we have taken the time to articulate in rules/code. Even so a poorly governed space will be silenced before suspension if I have any sense there is good faith engagement there somewhere.
