Here, masks at protests are illegal. When covid started, masks became more common and police did not do anything about them, as it made sense.
Not sure what they'd do currently, it's been around a year since my last protest (I should protest more). Here the law calls it "passive weapon", alongside large glasses or helmets, as the police will have a harder time beating you up.
Yup, it's as weird and twisted as it sounds.

@nprofile…j0he I hope that can be fixed at some point. The huge scaling issues are just a blocker to (really) large rooms.
And that they can't seem to find a decent way to block invite spam (how about just disabling invites and/or hiding IDs in rooms, just like with XMPP, where I never had any issues with spam, as my ID is not an easy thing to crawl from public rooms, as it is hidden).
I feel like most issues could have been avoided by researching solution done by other protocols. 🤔

@nprofile…j0he @nprofile…w9cc I doubt Matrix will ever be perfect, but Fractal to me is probably as close as it can get, although it is still mich slower than any of the XMPP clients I use, but I guess that's just the protocol. *shrug*

Some of the things I host no longer have A records, as of yesterday. That means they are no longer reachable using legacy IP.
I will further evaluate for what services I can turn off the old protocol version and exclusively use IPv6.

@nprofile…r80g @nprofile…vptq I've tried setting it up, just a few days ago.
I set it to sqlite, started it, then it complained about keys missing in the DB.
Docs don't mention having to use a sort of pre-written sqlite for starting it first.
Also, the Debian package did not create the directories that are required and I had to do it by hand.
In the end I just gave up, seemed too buggy and not well documented.
If you've got info on setting it up, please share.

Wie ging das mit 1337MATE eigentlich zu Ende?
Kann nichts dazu finden warum es die auf einmal nicht mehr gab.
Hatte damals extra meine Mutter überredet 40 km zu einem Getränkeladen zu fahren der was davon da hatte.
Das war schön, die etwa eine Woche in der immer 1337MATE da war.

Damn, the new TETRA radio I bought is not compatible with the Motorola TETRA CPS version that I have, so I cannot program it.
The radio is on MR2022.4
I'd need to import the release package or install the newer CPS.

What I always wonder: Couldn't this all be built into the train? Floor that goes up or down, built-in ramp, whatever, and then that whole issue is solved?
Surely we won't get a common standard for platform height in a soon-ish decade.
Have you seen anything that gets built into the train yet? Really curious.

@nprofile…nhea And that's pretty much why I've recently set up an XMPP server again, after 10 years: Matrix needs loads of RAM, CPU, randomly is unable to decrypt messages and it all seems generally very buggy, unfortunately. (idea seems nice, though)
Meanwhile my XMPP server needs barely any ressources and it just works™.
Sure, even there I have things I'd like to see improved, but I'm not constantly fighting issues.
Oh and it even works on old low end hardware as it needs little ressources. :D

Eine Bank bei der ich Kunde bin will TAN/2FA zum 31.01.2025 abschaffen.
Stattdessen soll es nur noch eine App ohne zweiten Faktor geben in der man einfach autorisiert ist und Geld rumschieben kann.

Really surprised by the great integration of Nextcloud into GNOME and therefore Phosh as well.
I just signed into my Nextcloud and my calendar, contacts and tasks jusg appeared. :D
Something as simple and comfortable just does not happen on Android, because that would make it harder to nudge people to use Google services.

You know why* I ported a Linux distribution to a phone that has just turned 5 years old?
Because otherwise these devices would have become trash. Literally.
Even though they're perfectly fine.
Support ended. They are now "End of Life". Seriously, just imagine someone would tell this to your parents. "Sorry, but no food for you, as you are end of life."
WTF. What an abomination.
This way some great hardware can live on.
(*And also because I like small phones.)

I don't think I've ever compiled the kernel as often on a single day as I have today, but my Mobian port to the Pixel 3a / 3a XL is making progress.
My device-specific kerrnel repo is working, though I still need to find the right place for some kernel config stuff. if compiled as is, touch won't work. But I can manually copy the ".config" from pmOS to the repo and do "make olddefconfig" and then everything works nicely.
