Huh, I just learned GDScript has _static_init(). Override that function and it will get executed when the script is loaded for the first time, useful for initializing static variables. There is not a single mention of this method in the documentation, I only found it because autocomplete suggested it.

@npub14yq…rfl3 Sorry I still don't quite get it, haven't done much with physics engines yet. Let's say the shape is a sphere, the colliding body is a box, the collision count is set to 10, and they are overlapping a bit. Which of the infinite contact points get picked and are reported?

@npub14yq…rfl3 I'm not actually sure what else it could be 🤔 If the shape overlaps with a body, there technically are an infinite number of points in the overlapping area. Or did you expect one hit per triangle of the shape?

@npub14yq…rfl3 What do you mean exactly? You can spawn Resources like scripts, Resource.new(). But I don't think you can use them as bullets, to render something you need a node in the SceneTree (or do dark magic things with RenderServer)

200,000 asteroids rendered with GPU instancing! Was kinda hoping to get into the millions though and stay above 60 FPS. Maybe I can with untextured single-quad grass blades with simplified lighting.

Never opened an issue on GitHub before, but it is one of my resolutions this year to get into the habit of doing so (and maybe even make PRs once my C++ is good enough)

@npub14yq…rfl3 Occasionally, every ~50th time I load a level, some objects will fail to generate their collision boxes somehow and fall through the floor. Eventually I'll try to make the problem reproducible / make a minimal project with the problem and open an issue. Could take a long time to hunt down the cause, but it'll be worth it for the otherwise much better physics!

@npub14yq…rfl3 Focus on the positive feedback! I know it's hard, we are wired to take even slightly negative reactions much more strongly to heart. I don't know why - in a hundred comments, even if 99 are extremely positive, there will always be a negative one, it doesn't make sense to give it that much weight.

A cost I'm willing to pay of course when releasing a game into the wild, but it would be nice if you could use resources directly and not have to convert between two data formats, surely an endless source of bugs

#Godot #security question: It's been over a year since @npub188q…mrde pointed out that when you implement save systems the easy way in Godot using resources, malicious actors could spread save files online that include executable code, see https://youtu.be/j7p7cGj20jU .
At the end of the video, it was mentioned that Resources may become secure in the future. It's the future now. What's the best way to to implement a flexible and secure save system in Godot 4 today? Are relevant features still planned?
