10. What's your favourite summer read for a getaway/holiday/vacation?
I haven't been away in ages and am on permanent vacation now, but when I can, I love to go hiking, canoeing and camping. Ebooks make a great library but I'd rather take a few hardcopies of a favorite series for rereads. That way I know I won't be disappointed, bored, or shocked and can thoroughly enjoy my reading time.

3. Is there a genre you haven’t written yet but would like to try?
Maybe vampire-type monster stories with a twist, no idea if that would be horror. I like writing horror in flash fic, but don't like to read or watch horror movies. Is it even possible to write a genre you don't like to read?

For an organised, orderly person it would be messy. For me it is uncharacteristically clean. I don't have much space, that's why, and my desk is stuffed with two computers, two large screens, and several external drives, hubs and the like. In a way Cydon is possessive over people he loves. He tries to hide his jealousy, and gets very protective. I'm not sure that this fits the possessive-ness defnition though. He'd always protect the weak and helpless but gets extra fierce when loved-ones are threatend. Material stuff is of little interest to him.

13. If you weren’t a writer, what other creative avenues would you pursue?
I used to draw a lot when I was younger, also dabbled in watercolor (which I'm useless at) and did silk painting. Also decorating furniture when this was a thing back in the eighties. I dabbled with zentangle and loved it.
I'd like to get back into drawing and painting... but lack the passion I once had.
I also sew, knit and crochet sometimes, but not creatively. I follow patterns, otherwise I can't do it

I don't really enjoy writing horribly bad people unless they have a redeeming arch and I can't remember having written anything of the kind. Normally they develop into one or the other depending on how the story unfolds and in individual cases I can enjoy writing them, but not as a rule.
I do enjoy horror microfic where a monster or villain is the MC.

😂 I have no idea. I throw my commas where I think they fit and as much as I remember any rules. The rest is up to a beta reader or Grammarly. Sometimes I chat with OpenAI and let it check punctuation. That's mostly for microfic because that's write/post and no time for beta reading.

To the MC Cyd(on Immer) love is what defines him. He loves with everything he has. And not only romantically. He loves his parents, his siblings, his planet, the universe, amd his love interest (platonic, no hope). He doesn't think about love as a concept (what does that even mean?), he just loves. He can also hate with passion.

It depends on who it is. If it is someone close, Cydon would be hurt and show it. He isn't very trusting of people he doesn't know well, so he'd be expecting it more or less and depending on the kind of betrayal, seek revenge, compensation, or stop interacting. It would take a lot to make him trust these people again, close or not.

1. Start a new Scrivener project.
- there will be plot ideas, I write those down.
2. Find names for the MCs and important SCs. If they don't have names, i can't write about them. Minor characters can get placeholders.
3. Get an idea about the world they're in, get maps and then do some worldbuilding.
4. Write the first chapter. I need a beginning...
5. Do research, mainly for SF or contemporary settings.

When I wrote fanfic, a group of people enjoyed my writing. It was back on lj, some were 'friends' in the same fandom and we interacted frequently.
My microfic seems to be enjoyed by the other participants of the challenge. It is all about reciprocation though, no idea if anyone would read otherwise.
I'm too shy with the longer original fic to show it to anyone yet.

Yes, when I was very immersed in the story, as I used to be often in the past and wish I could be again. I even dream-wrote sometimes... nodded off while writing late at night and when I woke up there was an odd sentence or two I didn't remember writing (and which didn't make much sense).

And so on, I have way too many SCs by now. These aren't really obsessions, but strong interests that lead further. Except for Quinn. He can't be a dryad, much as he wanted to be one. Vellia has become a Drakefriend, not only in name; Lissa is an undergrad in veterinary medicine and prepares for her exams.

I would never write anything that glorifies non-con, rape, and overly graphic violence and thus consider myself terrible at writing these--Oh, and comedy. I can't tell jokes, the timing is wrong and I never get the punchline right.

Very rarely with the old fanfic. But they weren't all that bad I think. A bit too preachy, a bit too plotty and too little character development.
My original stuff... since I reuse/rewrite what didn't work, I sometimes read that (and often cringe). My microfiction isn't all that bad I think. I'm not going to win any prizes. As long as I don't cringe it's OK with me.

9. Do you use a dedicated proofreader, or is one provided by your publisher?
I have a friend who was my beta reader back in my fanfic days. If I get that far and can interest her in my WIP, I'd ask her to beta read. I'd also ask the community here or at other places. I can't pay but I can offer plot and 'does it work' beta reading or bouncing ideas in return.
If I don't find anyone, I'll ask chatgtp. That will take care of the worst grammar and punctuation booboos.

Robin's comfort food in our world is Pizza.
Stevie and Robin both love chocolate, especially the hot kind.
The only food in the magical world that wasn't fit for a feast was the mush they serve soldiers in the field for breakfast. The rest, so far, was always delicious.
Stevie isn't a fan of the waterpeople's fare.

8. Do you think of your books as having a particular length?
No, but they tend to be around 80K for the current project. Since deep editing hasn't happened yet and I usually just write what happens without much feeling or metaphors and imagery, there's stuff that will be added. On the other hand too verbose infodump or preaching will be removed. But I don't really care that much unless I'm doing NaNoWriMo. Which I'm doing this month, anyone else doing the camp?

Most of the time I just sit down and write. On rare occasions when I'm stuck I do a bit of EFT tapping. I don't know if there is some scientific background for it, but it does help me get unstuck. Maybe it's the rhythm of the taps or the mumbling of the mantra that wakes the creative brain up again.

4. Is there writing advice you used to follow but changed your mind?
I tried the snowflake. I tried following the hero's journey. I tried this, I tried that but I'm far too lazy and impatient to prepare and plan so thoroughly and I also find it stifling. So I try things, and dismiss them. I greatly enjoyed writing when I didn't know anything; I'm getting back to that stage with p(l)antsing. Editing is a pain though. 😂

4. Do you feature real-world political and social issues in your work?
Yes, always. My fantasies are portal fantasies so there are comparisons between here and there possible. I always use that to show a few things I strongly dislike in our world.
My SF isn't usually that far in the future that today's politics doesn't affect these worlds/societies. So I try to predict the consequences of some of our actions.
It's only an aside mostly. I try to be subtle.

Ruru is telling Robin how many people she's killed, and why, because that's something he needs to hear. But she wouldn't shout it from the rooftops.
Vellia doesn't tell everyone what happened to her when she was captured by the enemy but some people need to know.

Yes, and I love them for some odd reason. I seldom use them correctly although I've learned about the usage but where English grammar and punctuation is concerned, my brain is like a sieve. Every once in a while, in a long sentence, I think there could be a semicolon there. And then I throw one in.

Robin, Stevie and their Mum are atheists. The kids were taught about religions but came to their own conclusions. The point of life for them is life itself. Live life the best you can and don't wait for some better world after death. The magical world doesn't change that although they find their belief in a universal spirit appealing.

2. What books/resources ...? Which ones do you recommend?
I've read many books because I came to writing without knowing anything about the craft. I learned a lot but it also stifled me. There are all these formulas and trying to apply them just didn't work for me. But having the knowledge is good.
Books: Steering the craft by Ursula LeGuin, the emotion and other thesauri by Angela Ackerman et al, KM Weiland's books on structure and character arcs... and so on.

2. Do you keep a journal? Would you?
No and no. I'm not that interesting. I sometimes keep journals for my dog(s) but I'm far too lazy to keep that up. I don't have kids so there's no need to journal about them either. The rest is in my head and I have no intention of writing a memoir, so I can colour my memories any shade I like.

1. What's your favourite easter egg in your own work and/or another work of fiction?
I don't really understand the concept well enough to use it, and I never find easter eggs when I read something. I'm just not into pop culture enough I guess. Stevie is named after Stevie Nicks, if that counts. There are some very tiny hidden references to roman battles and military leaders. But that's more a crutch for ignorant me than a deliberately placed egg.

They come from our world. They hate the same things I hate. Greed for wealth and power over reason and compassion for the the planet and its inhabitants. On all levels of all societies.

Inspire... not really. But they educate me, make me think about writing, entertain me, build a community that I've been missing ever since I left lj and fanfic. And some of the people here are so funny, I always look forward to a good laugh.
Thinking about aspects of world or characters that I'd never thought about on my own, like favorite food and such can lead to unexpected insights.

They like natural fibers and simple, comfortable outfits. Jeans, sweatpants, hoodies. In the magical world long tunics and legging-like pants.

Can't think of anything. They'd be horrified. They would find certain aspects of our lives interesting, like tourists do, but they wouldn't enjoy it. They'd pity us and be disgusted. They could enjoy it only in the way we enjoy a creepy, scary horror movie.
Even the people who follow the antagonist would be horrified by how we treat each other and our world.

12. Do you agree with Ray Bradbury, who said, "Quantity produces quality. If you only write a few things you're doomed"?
Who am I to contradict Ray Bradbury?
He talked about writing, not publishing. In my experience, if you write a lot but not publish, you can still improve. But hardly writing anything makes you rusty. Doomed is a strong word. No idea how he meant that. Doomed financially? No success? No fame? Times and publishing were different.

250. Does your SC have next-door neighbors? Who are they?
Neighbours aren't important in my story but of course there would be some.
Lady S.: lives in the floating capital in a large house, has other neighbours in large houses. The houses usually are home to extended family and guests. They are not status symbols but functional. If you have a large family and are involved in politics, you need a big house.
Jack has other Enkum Zi as neighbours in the guild house.

11. What do they(antagonists) appreciate the most about their world?
The way many people react to his lies and manipulation. He calls them gullible and laughst about them. And the resources, magic and other things he finds useful.
