Just saw an up and coming #bitcoin podcaster (10k subs) interview someone by the name of George Bodine. George’s claim is that if you buy 0.1 of a BTC with a market value of $10k, that in 20 years it will be worth $64 million. His logic is to use a Compound Annual Growth Rate calculator with the parameters set to $10k value at 55% CAGR for 20 years. I ran the numbers and it is $5.59 million, not $64 million.
More importantly, CAGR assumes that interest is paid annually over the life of the calculation and is added to the principal. This then creates the compounding effect, where as each year passes interest gets paid on a bigger principal amount. Problem is that you don’t get paid interest when buying and holding bitcoin. Your original BTC purchase stays the same for the 20 year life and no compounding is taking place.
There were over 130 replies to the video and not one pointed out these flaws. I replied with examples of the math and logic and the podcaster himself responded by saying that “BTC has a fixed supply.”
This is a great example of how someone is trying to measure bitcoin with a fiat currency system. It doesn’t work. In fact it creates a type of FUD that doesn’t help the bitcoin cause or the credibility of either of the parties involved. The bitcoin price in 20 years will be what it will be… 1 BTC = 1 BTC. Do your research! 🙏

Another go at depicting wood grain. Just used a 2B with lighter then heavier strokes. Kinda sorta works. On a different note, the perspective in the image is wack! In real life the drawing and the house have very similar proportions, especially around the chimney. The camera lens totally distorts both subjects. There was is a metaphor there somewhere about perspective or filters or questioning inputs!

This is probably how my wife and I will take part in destroying musicians livelihoods by cutting off royalty payments to organisations that collect on their behalf... First we will collaborate with our personal AI using language to create a library of genre specific musical phrases. Second we will choose 1 or more of those phrases for the AI to build a full track around, again using spoken language to shape its structure. Third, we will create lyrical themes using the AI that will be sung by the AI with whatever vocal nuance we can describe. Fourth, the AI will mix and master the track. Fifth, we will ask the AI to create 100 more songs of similar style. Sixth, we will then play those songs via a phone in our retail store. This effectively bypasses the organisation that adds $650 per year to our operating costs based NOT on the artists that might get played on our premises, or how many times or for how long, but by how many square meters of floor space the store has. Apologies to my fellow musicians, and I know this sounds harsh, but some of your income streams are going to die very soon. As we adapt, you MUST also. Cheers.

I keep hearing about how the robots are going to be able to do my job better than me very soon. I wonder if they have any training data on how to sand a water based, clear polyurethane on baltic birch plywood? What grit, how much pressure, grain direction, sanding lines or swirls, sheen, dust buildup on paper, how to clear the paper, sand throughs, dust extraction, edge protection, inside corners, concave and convex surfaces, temperature... When I started my boatbuilding apprenticeship back in 1982 I spent the first year sanding. More precisely, I spent a year learning how to scratch surfaces to either shape them or prep them for more work. Every grit from 40g through to 2000g. Bare wood, resin, foam, fairing compound, fibreglass and paint. The are a lot of decisions made on the fly to "scratch a surface" for a desired outcome. While I can see a single robotic arm holding a random orbital vacuum assisted sander processing a 2K or epoxy coating that was temperature cured to perfection on an assembly line of identical parts working 24/7, I am really struggling seeing a humanoid robot navigating my small, cramped, somewhat untidy workshop order to use the general purpose sanding tools and papers I have to refinish a previously clear varnished piece of furniture that is being refinished for a picky owner. #ai #robot #humanoid #woodwork

Hmmm. What kind of goals are going to matter 10 years from now? Spend a bit of time with the AI and tech accelerationists and you will discover that according to them, life (and things) will be fundamentally different 10 years from now. How confident are you in calling their bluff? Perhaps the best place to invest your time and energy as a hedge against a supposed new world is something like Brian Johnson’s “Don’t Die” goal. 10 years of striving toward being the best you can be health wise might give you the best chance of resetting the original goal to aim toward something you can’t even imagine yet! I used to think this. I then realised that I needed some way to protect myself from the effects of the sunk cost fallacy. That’s a brutal life lesson to learn if your focus is too narrow. For sure there is some wisdom tucked into that bit of advice but I have made it a habit to remind my kids that walking away and leaving some things unfinished, in certain circumstances, is better than keeping your word. That can be a win for both parties. Cheers.

Such a very interesting exercise to subject myself to. I have discovered that #drawing with graphite pencils forces a new level of body awareness. Who knew that I could focus on muscle control through my hand and fingers to that extent! Holding something so lightly that it could almost fall out and at such an acute angle is super interesting. Another surprise was the spontaneous decision to use the paper stump with my non dominant left hand! Before it registered as a conscious decision I was holding and using tools with both hands 🙌 Then there was the breath awareness 😳

I was influenced by someone I did business with about 25 years ago. He was visionary and very successful. I was young with little kids wanting to borrow against my house to build my business. I asked for advice and he said to never expose my home front. That was 2002. 5 years later was the GFC. That wiped out a mother truck load of people in my line of business. I am glad looking back that I didn’t take the bet on my home. Just my journey. ATB.

Just to be clear, my original statement about generational labelling was aimed at the tendency of quite a few younger people to blame an entire older generation for the leadership theories practiced by just a few of that gen. It seems to be the flavour of the month on some platforms. It goes two ways though, meaning older folks can tend to be heard writing off younger generations because of the actions of just a few. I can see why some of the millennial and gen z readers of the 4th turning might want to adopt a “hero” label based on the theory. Strauss and Howe’s ideas are about eras and should not be confused with the individuals that make up that era. There is a difference albeit subtle. My statement that critical thinking was lacking was to suggest that it should be obvious that if you can blame a whole generation for the legislation of a few, then it would follow that a whole generation would be tempted to take credit for the work of just a few (hence the suggestion of stupidity). While in general their thesis has identified that generations indeed are influenced by the era they are born in, it is my contention that there are no generational villains or heroes, just a few key players that know how to play the game. I can see the reflections and the shadows when looking at the subject, but as soon as I look away I have no memory of what I have just seen. Another discovery, blending and removing! I used a paper stump for the first time. Very interesting effect, smoothing out the shading. Also removed some shading to try to help create contrast. Feels like I am now truly starting skill base building with chosen tools. 🙂 Progress!

This seems like progress. It was all in the way I held the pencil 1. Very shallow angle about 10deg and 2. With a very delicate grip and 3. Small smooth motion and 4. Building layers. I can also see that a strong outline helps.

Source I used was Matthew Sigel, head of Digital Assets Research at Van Eck. His claim was that 3 million BTC is currently held in govt and institutions (could be more). The 25% was my back of the envelope guess by taking the 19.8 mil mined less the 3-4 million lost (could be more) so circulating supply 15-16mil. Admittedly rough but 20-25% realistic.

Just a guess but it is possible that the majority of current owners are in it for fiat returns, not for ushering in a new utopian economy. There looks to be a relatively small cohort of holders that want to see BTC become a legit medium of exchange as well store of wealth. That was what I was hoping to focus on with my question. Current estimates have 25% (plus) of BTC already locked up in longer term gvnt and institutional holdings. Just heard a stat listing 25 countries now actively exploring BTC. Just a handful of these along with sovereigns, insurance companies, ETF’s etc would be enough for many to part with their holdings. Thanks for your input. Cheers.

I think I get what happens to price relative to fiat, but my question was more about the potential for bitcoin to be a medium of exchange. There are hopes that MoE will catch on in a big way as part of the adoption cycle. If I understand it correctly, there would be less of it able to be used p2p which would therefore stifle adoption.

I still doubt that. Your opinion of anything you produce has nothing to do with the opinion that another person arrives at when interacting with said piece. When was the last time you did something that would be considered “general arts”? I used to wrestle with a similar self evaluation then I started doing daily sketches of small items in my house. 20-30 mins with 1x pencil, 1x pen, 1x eraser. I also write little notes about the experience. It’s a confronting exercise on many levels. Daily visual journaling. I am 100% sure you could challenge your self estimation, for the better by simply being curious. All the best!

Today I questioned my tools. This lasted about 30sec before I felt an invisible slap 👋 right across my egos face. Then waves of embarrassment sloshed around the space that I can’t describe with any accuracy but nevertheless seems totally real! What a dingbat. One pen, one pencil, one eraser. Each item has one function. None of them are faulty, yet the inner critic part of me had no problem shifting blame to my tools! Sneaky sneaky sneaky little gollum like creature twisting squashing distorting my minds eye.
There is nothing wrong with my tools. I am grateful that I could observe this little tussle. It means more to me than things I create with my chosen tools.

My #neverfail Spaghetti Bolognaise recipe that feeds 5.
1x med onion
1x celery stick
1x med carrot
1-2 cloves garlic
bunch fresh basil
500g ground beef
1x 400g tin chopped tomatoes
1x 400g tin tomato purée
Salt and pepper to taste
2 Tbls olive oil
500g dried spaghetti
In a large pan on medium heat, sauté the finely chopped onion, celery and carrot in the olive oil. After a few minutes add the crushed garlic. Once onions are clear, push to side and add ground beef. Gently fry beef without browning. Once beef is all the same colour add both tins of tomatoes plus 1 tin of water. Add chopped fresh basil leaves. Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Simmer on low heat for 45min-1hr.
Cook spaghetti according to packet.
