Seeing all these replies from people that appear to be morally off put by prenups...
A marriage as it occurs in our time is not a contract between two people, not a contract with God. It is a contract between two people and the state. If a prenup is something that is abhorrent in some way, then why is a marriage license not also abhorrent? If it's about love and trust, then why not just be "married" in your hearts, in the eyes of God, however you see it, and forego the contract entirely? I'll answer: because it is, always, about the contract.
I'm "married" like that, pair bonded, the commitment is between us, the love is as iron clad as with anyone that is legally married. But there's no contract between us and the state. It is about trust for us, we trust each other so much that we don't need that legal agreement.
Why would we? Tax benefits for one. Inheritance, structuring or property ownership, that stuff. We will enter into agreement with the state insofar as our pairing when it makes financial sense for us to do so. It will change nothing between us emotionally or as a matter of trust in one another, all of that is already eestablished between us. And when doing that, we will probably draw up that contract on our own terms rather than those of the state, what you'd call a prenup, to both our liking.
On your question, you need the advice of a lawyer, not advice from random people here, and you need to discuss between you and your wife what is fair to both of you beforehand.

Why will Monero need ecash? Ultimately what any long term viable cryptocurrency needs is the ability to purge all historical data (everything except the set of unspent outputs), but until then, Monero has adaptive block size, so for now everything is fine.

BCH has "instant" finality in that there's no replace by fee, so transactions can be trusted with 0 confirmations. There are trade offs here and I'm not exactly a fan of it but it is one way to do it.
The issue of finality is a very complex one. Technically no blockchain has 100% finality ever. Practically speaking, finality is a bell curve and depending on network security practical finality is possible after a handful of blocks. In XMR that's deemed to be 10 blocks as of right now. This is true regardless of proof of work or proof of stake and is a fundamental problem of achieving consensus in a decentralized way. Proof of stake could actually reduce the security of finality, because it rewards holders and not external expenditure, and so trends towards oligarchic centralization enabling a small number of nodes to potentially collude to break finality to their benefit. If staking nodes decide to do this there's no way to fork away from them, as they will have the same number of coins on the fork and so will be able to continue the attack, as opposed to PoW where you can bit flip the hash algorithm and thus boot the attackers permanently.

Monero will never adopt proof of stake. There are very good reasons for this that we could get into if you're interested, otherwise I'll just focus on finality time because that's the core topic you're talking about.
Proof of stake would not improve finality or block times at all. In Monero new unspent outputs have a 10 block lock time to prevent them from disappearing in a reorg. Proof of stake would not change this at all. That's the main time constraint on being able to spend coins you recently received, it is a pain but there are good reasons for it and research is constantly happening to try to eliminate this requirement, there are always discussions on changes to the cryptography and signature scheme to eliminate it but they so far have all had drawbacks and the community hasn't come to a consensus on a trade off. Eliminating this requirement though is a very popular thing, people want it but if it reduces security it's not a good idea.
Block time is a constraint designed to prevent orphaned blocks, nodes need to validate the new chain tip before the next block is mined, this is a constraint imposed by network latency and not by mining.

So, suppose the p tags on *my* kind 3 could each have multiple relays like you said you tried for that I quite like. And suppose your kind 0 event had a list of relays that was updated by your client every time you added or removed a relay, just like if you changed your avatar or something. Could be kind 10002 as well, but I'm trying to simplify the protocol in my mind, rolling the contents of kind 10002 onto kind 0. If the relays in your p tag in my kind 3 were updated by my client when they don't match your kind 0 (or 10002), then we don't really have a rot problem or a bootstrapping problem, right? The likelihood that your followers' p tag for you in their kind 3 are out of date is very low, the likelihood that nobody can find your list of relays from just a couple of your followers' kind 3 events is extremely low, and if clients MUST update their kind 3 p tags from your 10002 or 0 in my hypothetical idea, then it looks like those two problems are practically solved, though I know not perfectly solved since there is a small chance that none of your followers have a single relay for you that you still broadcast to and therefore that will have an up to date kind 0 or 10002 event for you. To me this seems much more robust and less dirty than the brute force hack you just told me about.

Also, where do you bootstrap fetching relays from? So you've got to ask some relays for kind 10002 notes, is it standard to ask your relays from content of kind 3 for them for your follows? What happens if you find none, doesn't that fracture the network?

So if I'm following, I should prioritize kind 10002 events, then content of kind 3, then p tags in kind 3. I won't be doing any complex scoring I don't think.
So on the hypothetical side of this, I think, if the relays in p tags were lists, and they were only used to fetch a user's kind 0 event and it contained a list of relays that were updated every time a client added or removed a relay, that should prevent rot while keeping all the extra complexity out of this, no?

Thanks for the response man. I was trying to figure that out and I don't know the NIPs like the back of my hand quite yet. I've been following Nostr and dabbling with it since there were like 17 NIPs and the protocol was much simpler and keeping up with this stuff can be hard as it's happening fast, I need an RSS feed (or a Nostr bot?) to help me keep track of all the changes.
So there are 3 ways you can get relays to fetch from, the NIP-02 way, the way I'm talking about where they're in the content (and they're the recipient's relays, not a dump of all follows relays if I understand that correctly?) and the NIP-65 way? I ask because I'm working on something and I want to make sure to cover all my bases and implement everything I need to implement to satisfy users.
An aside, I quite like the NIP-02 way of storing them with one caveat: I think the field for a relay in the p tag should be a list of relays as this would help with censorship resistance. I really like a simpler protocol, and I like the idea of client side storage of feeds, I've actually got a client I'm in the very beginning stages of building that is focused largely on user definable client side feeds, but it is on the backburner in favor of a CLI utility that uses bittorrent and nostr to enable media sharing.

They're gonna get sued by Amazon and this declaration will not stand to scrutiny in court. After chevron especially, but generally, hiring contractors is not the same as hiring employees. Trucking companies do it all the time. The only time you can really get in trouble doing it is when the terms of your contract are similar to those of an employment contract, for example paying by the hour or requiring a set number of hours of work and things like that, basically if it's obvious youre creating an employment contract but not calling it that to avoid labor law.

Yep, any torrent streaming application will do. Popcorntime works on android, but it comes with a pirate movie catalog built in. I might make a bounty for a fork of it that just plays links and has no catalog, I don't know yet. What would be best is of course a utility tthat opens the stream in your media player of choice, popcorntime has a built in media player, but it would work. I don't know if you've ever used Scrambled Exif, it's an application that strips exif data from images before sharing them, no UI, just share to it and then it opens the share dialog again, something that worked like that that just had a dialog open up asking which media player to stream to. I'm not an android developer.
For desktop there's peerflix, there's also a popcorntime client that doesn't have the catalog anymore as that's fetched remotely but it can still stream magnet links just fine.
What happens to the video... Same thing that happens if a host doesn't want to host anymore. Ultimately hosting costs money. "Free" hosts make their money in other ways. They censor, they delete old content. I would think a person who has a personal interest in their content being available would be more adamant about ensuring that, especially since all it takes is a seedbox. You can rent seedboxes if you want to pay for hosting. The goal isn't to ensure perpetual availability, as that is impossible. The goal is to make it easy for content creators to host and share videos without complex setups, and with nostr that includes a route to monetization which is spectacular, it's a big problem with every other approach to self hosting video content.

So you go to boot menu, do you see the USB device there? If so, there are a few things that could be going on, go in your bios and toggle UEFI/legacy (whatever it was, change it) and see if it works. If that doesn't work try making the USB drive again possibly with a different one.
Also make sure you turn off windows secure boot in your bios.
If the device simply doesn't show you can try making it again on a different drive and plugging into a different slot.

Yep.
I stick them both in a directory and have synching sync it, and I have fossify contacts and calendar read/write to/from the files instead of import and export.
The only thing I have to worry about is conflicts, but as long as synching syncs before modification it's fine, generally I treat my phone copy as the canonical copy and make sure any modifications I do from another machine get synced to my phone before modifying on my phone.

Reliability is a concern, but liquidity is a concern too. Because of the network topology of LN, you wind up needing nodes with lots of high liquidity channels already open. This creates an incentive to open channels with large nodes, and that leads to everyone creating channels with a handful of nodes with a lot of liquidity, its a centralizing force.

How come no nostr clients let you hide boosts per user, have a boosts only feed, or related, create local only feeds of different people, hashtags, etc? Nostr is built so that these things are possible.
On the boosts issue, they're type 6. It should be very easy to hide them per user, or have a boosts only feed.
On the custom feeds issue, we have this whole protocol and we get one feed?? Are the GUI frameworks people are using incapable of adding tabs? Do the UX designers not think about empowering the user?
IMO, nostr clients are all lacking on UX, every one of them. User empowerment, putting thought into enabling users to more powerfully curate, these were bare minimum MVP requirements once upon a time. It seems that the name of the UX game these days is herding cattle in a direction and carefully controlling user behavior. At the very least, not much thought is put into it at all.

Seems like development on it is going slow. There hasn't been an update from v0.3.0 in almost a month. I don't know how to actually speak to the maintainer, I have run into him somewhere but I don't remember where, and I can't find him on the usual Monero spaces. I would think he would have a presence on nostr but I haven't been fortunate enough to find him.
I'm curious if he released this as a proof of concept, or if he wants bounties to work on it, or if he just feels overwhelmed with the workload and doesn't feel like it/doesn't have time to keep up.

I have an interesting story along this vein as well.
When I was a teenager, there was this concrete bike trail I basically lived on day in and day out. If I wasn't at school you could find me there with my friends fucking around, maybe smoking weed or whatever.
There was this dirt trail right off the main, government made trail, we carved it into the woods by simply walking that path, it crossed a creek to go to a shopping center because the trail wasn't really efficiently designed to actually go places fast. The trail didn't meet our needs so we improved it, no permission, no central planning, nothing. Authorities used to give us a hard time, trying to bust kids getting stoned or whatever down there.
My son also grew up there, he's about that age I was in those days, so he took me to go walk it. Nice thing, walking with your son in a place where you both have similar memories around the same age. That dirt trail is concrete now. It even has a name and a big sign over it. There's a bridge over the creek.
They couldn't stop us, because they don't actually govern anything. I bet the planners were really pissed at the kids making their own trails there instead of taking the prescribed routes. All they could do was pretend they made it for us, they made it better, slap their legitimacy on it, and of course take some tax money to do it. But they didn't make it, we did, against their wishes, and since government actually doesn't control anything, they instead give it their blessing, pretend they did everyone a favor, make everyone forget that they didn't build it, pretend they've given us some great gift. And they have to, because if they don't people might figure out that we don't need them.

Yeah, I think, it's probably a good idea to use some of the tips we get to offer bounties on garnet. I mean, the developer has enabled the entire Monero community on nostr to send each other Monero. Asking him to do more for free is kind of like, not tipping the one guy we should be tipping most lol. Bug reports are fine, but we should put a bounty in any issue we open on garnet that is a feature request.

Alright dude just as an FYI, not to be rude, but you should learn a bit more about information security. Why broadcast the key? Why not just generate the key from the nsec, that way anywhere you have your nsec you have your Monero key? No sending required. Sending it gets you nothing and potentially compromises your security. Then, you said encrypt it, encrypt it with what key? You still need a side channel to share that key.
Rule of thumb: find the simplest solution to your problem and never overcomplicate it.
So, what you want actually kind of already exists. Garnet generates a 25 word Monero mnemonic from your nsec. You can export that seed to any wallet you like. Theoretically any Monero wallet could use the same scheme garnet uses and allow you to import nsecs as Monero keys, but I don't think that's a good idea, seed export from nsec in Garnet works fine.
Generally it's not a good idea to use the same keys for different things like this. I will never use my garnet seed for this identity for anything other than xmr tipping on nostr.

Those not uber paranoid people can keep using their keys then even when they broadcast a message they shouldn't have. The feature you want is, first for uber paranoid people in the first place and second, it's not possible.
A scheme to request deletion is fine. But it's always going to be a request. And the relay can always lie to you.
I'm not talking about how nostr should be. What I'm telling you is, there is no scheme whatsoever in any protocol that can ensure that a message you've sent to another machine is deleted by that machine and/or not relayed elsewhere. Event deletion requests for a key that youre trying to remain anonymous with is nothing more than a false sense of security. If you're not uber paranoid then it makes no difference to you, you're still going to use the key. If you are, it makes no difference to you, you're still not going to use the same key if you screw up. You can choose to use relays that honor deletion requests (or at least say they do, again, you can't enforce it or know for sure), and that's a nice thing if they do, but it gets you no guarantees as far as your security is concerned.

Well, you can't pay fees in USD. They have to take their dollars and buy bitcoin with it to do this. And then they have to pay all the highest fees for all their transactions, higher than everybody else to ensure that no transactions get through. Anyone willing to pay more than them will force them to up what they're paying. Ultimately they'll spend everything they have on one block of transactions, have to buy more which means allowing someone to send them btc in a block, them do it again. They'd run out of money real quick.
In XMR, the block size would just keep getting bigger and they'd pay a huge premium to keep it happening. And again, they need XMR to pay fees, which means they need someone's transaction to get onto a block, and they can't spend that transaction for 10 blocks. The numbers on this are even worse than bitcoin because of the dynamic block size, they'd run through everything quickly, make the block space huge, then get a tx, wait ten blocks and start over again.
You can do either of these for a little while, but nobody has a blank check big enough to keep this up for very long. The fee market means that their cost goes up the longer they do it, and in XMR case, the block size too which means they have to increase the number of transactions they're putting out while simultaneously increasing the fee they're paying for each one.
This assumes that miners of course won't blacklist their addresses, they have an incentive not to, who doesn't want to take their money? But they also have an incentive to, the coins they're earning are worthless on a network that you can't use. Ultimately I think they would if it managed to go on long enough, and if that happened anything in those addresses is stuck there and they have to buy more and send it to a new address and start over. If they continued on indefinitely either way, soon all their capital will be in the hands of the miners and the currency they're buying coins with will hyperinflate to worthlessness. At that point nobody is taking their dollars or whatever they're printing for bitcoin or XMR and they wouldn't be able to continue.
This is of course in the scenario where they do it indefinitely, as you can see it's not viable even for governments.

Youre using the testnet version. Your address starts with a 5, that's how I know. Mainnet addresses start with 4 (and sub addresses start with 8, but that's not applicable to garnet). You're going to have to fix that, I've talked to a couple of people that have had strange problems I don't understand with regard to that, try installing the mainnet version and see if your XMR address changes.

Monero's current inflation rate is lower than that of bitcoin. Check for yourself if you don't believe me.
The scaling challenges that Bitcoin faces, Monero mostly resolves. I say mostly because I'm a firm believer that in order to completely solve them you need the same security guarantees that bitcoin and Monero offer without the necessity to save all historical data. The dynamic block size though does a great deal to alleviate it.
People actually spend Monero. Network effects in the long term are in it's favor if your goal is peer to peer digital cash.

Here's an observation: there are particular tribes who's ideology prevents them from doing this. The rest of us don't really care and just like creativity and art for what it is. The site lists 8545 companies worldwide which ie extremely low, and lists 3696 for the US and 17 in Russia. There are more than 17 companies in Russia. Funny stuff from the article: a doctor interviewed by WSJ says that just because there are carcinogens in the sunscreen doesn't mean they're doing anything bad, and my favorite, to develop thyroid tumors you'd have to put sunscreen on your whole body every day for 30 years, which is 1) less than the time it takes to develop skin cancer, and 2) exactly what you're encouraged to do if you go out in the sun every day.
Also, a doctor towards the end says that tans are the ourward manifestation of sun damage, which as far as I understand only applies to white people. For everyone else, it is evidence of an increase in melanin content in the skin, a defense against UV damage.
I also find it funny that I'm seeing displays in grocery stores and the like for sunscreen with pictures of black people on them. I've read recently that there's a marketing push by sunscreen manufacturers to target brown people because they have no room for growth, the entire market for their product already uses their product. Why you'd try to push a product onto people that don't need it if you're a serious producer of something some people really need I don't know, but such blatant dishonesty is a quick ticket to becoming viewed as a snake oil salesman.
I think all in all, probably people ought to 1) get a little sun exposure daily if possible, 2) protect themselves from the sun if they're going to be exposed for long periods, and 3) not apply compounds to their skin that contain god knows what nonsense like benzene compounds and other assorted garbage. A hat, long sleeves, maybe some zinc oxide should do you just fine.

Call me crazy lol but I happen to think George Soros is just a genuine dude. I've seen him do interviews, I've read one of his books (his magnum opus as he stated when he wrote it) and looked at some of his activities, I've never seen a lie or any dishonesty.
He believes some things I disagree with, strongly even, and he puts his resources to work furthering those things which I don't like. But I don't think he's a liar or trying to hurt humanity or anything like that.

I made a few qutebrowser userscripts if you're into that kind of thing. A tool to mutate URLs before following them in just about any user configurable way, and a tool for bookmarking/tab/session management to organize links, are the two big ones. I can't live without the latter now.
I'm also working on a robust reader mode like userscript off and on that I'll get out eventually, and rolling around the concept of something to open links externally, such as opening video links in youtube-dlp or mpd or something.
You really can't beat this browser.

I've got to disagree. I will never (again) host my own email. It's my last line of communication. It doesn't need to rely on my maintenance, it just needs to be there. I'd rather pay for hosted email. I'm not maintaining a server and updating dependencies for a communication channel that I basically use for marketing spam and just in case I lose contact in other ways. I absolutely hate email, but I have it, same as a phone number. I honestly don't want either, so I'm going to put minimal effort into keeping them. With regard to email, the farthest I'll go is paying something monthly and not using the big two email services.
If you're someone seriously using email for secure communications all the time, yeah you should probably put the effort in and self host. But most people don't use it like that anymore. Most people use it to confirm sign ups for accounts they sign up for to order a single thing from a web shop. If you don't like your purchasing habits being snooped, avoiding google and Microsoft is about all you need to do. The only people I know that use email seriously are people contributing to FOSS projects with git the old school way, via mailing lists.
If you really want privacy in your communications, just use something that isn't email.

It doesn't necessarily split anything. All these other networks do it all the time. There's a difference between a project fork and a protocol upgrade.

Looks like everyone's in that boat. I'd say that right now we are running into scaling problems with Bitcoin and not the problems you speak of in Monero. Monero as a community has demonstrated itself amenable to implementing improvements, Bitcoin has so far demonstrated the opposite, it's a point of pride among Bitcoiners that they will not accept a hard fork.

I think seed oils are bad for you, but this video is very heavy on the emotional manipulation and lighter than helium on the details. Not a good educational video, it has 0 educational content whatsoever.

Why is monero a joke? If we are interested in using these things as money instead of fiat, what do you mean by "has no monetary value" and "losing money"?
How is zcash better? From my understanding of zcash it's run by a for profit corporation, has a founders reward that goes to them, and privacy is optional which means private transactions stand out.

I don't have a problem with liquid or blockstream. But if your goal with liquid is privacy, it's not the only thing out there, there's also Monero. What do you think about Monero?
