The issue here is reacting as if economists are or can be objective, which is a virtual impossibility. Almost everyone, and that includes economists, have a vested interest in perpetuating or promoting a particular political philosophy or ideology, and yet most present their opinions as if they are fact. Generally, economists less supportive of monetarism and capitalism are marginalised, while those in favour are amplified.

I've been wondering... Has anyone done a study on which parts of the globe are most likely to be survivable? Factoring in things such as rise in sea level, annual seasonal temperature range, rainwater, land to grow food, etc - and obviously, these criteria would have to be based on likely future outcomes, not what those conditions are like now and historically.
And... have any billionaires already started building properties in those locations...?

Rachel Reeves should be following the example coming from America. $16bn for Coca Cola, and the DOJ chasing many other tax evaders - don't have the link to hand, but IIRC the figures are far more substantial than going after benefit claimants.

Agree - but as your first paragraph highlights this is not only a right-of-centre party issue.
In the UK, Starmer disregards most of Labour's heritage and has actively purged the party of many who were on the left and the traditional backbone of the Labour Party, such that many Labour supporters are no longer represented, simply ignored.
Worldwide, public opposition to what is happening in Gaza is routinely ignored.

How anyone can still think Austerity is a viable approach boggles the mind - there are many more reports and analysis from both 'The Great Depression', and the 2007–2008 financial crisis.

the anti-fascist protestors (who blocked streets and stopped traffic) received minor begrudging praise from Starmer for standing up and protecting their communities while he did little.
The Just Stop Oil activists who were merely discussing possible action that might block roads and stop traffic FOR TRYING TO SAVE ALL OUR LIVES were jailed for 5 years.
Meanwhile Oil companies receive tax breaks AND subsidies for trying to kill us.

One thing that events in Gaza have highlighted is politicians pursuing their own course, regardless of the strength of opinion (& opposition) from the electorate.
the lack of action from the government over the fascist marauding in the UK during the last week resulted in people having to come together to defend their own communities when the government would not.
& the disproportionate sentencing for rioters compared to activist trying to save the planet (& us)

And again, at a personal level, I am now at an age where the major problems facing the world will not affect me significantly (I'll already be dead). But I grieve for what young people and future generations are going to face.

It's not that I thought the Greens had a chance to win overall. But much more than 4 seats might have finally actually given us a government willing to face up to the very real problems we will face.

At a personal level, probably my biggest take away from the election result was that the Greens did not do better, indicating how people are still not yet taking the risks of climate change seriously enough. In my lifetime this was probably the first election where dissatisfaction with both major parties provided an opportunity to actually do something about it. Sadly, it didn't happen.

Yep. This was a complex election with a lot of factors affecting votes, & a lot more tactical voting. 1, the widespread dissatisfaction with the Tories. 2, both major parties support of continuing with Brexit. 3, both major parties support of Israel's genocide. 4, an alternative right wing party.
With 2 & 3, it wasn't a simple choice of voting Labour instead of Tory for many people. The priorities of individual voters will have seen votes switching in many different directions.

Across the globe, the far right have been playing a different game for the last 20 years, and the centre and left haven't noticed. They're still trying to play by the old rules and still don't appear to recognise that the game might be over before they wake up and realise what is happening.
