For example rolling a properly fair die on sponge rubber, on velvet, on a hard wood table, and on glass should all result in the same odds. So far every one I've had fails as an actual substitute, though some (like the vegan food at a famous local Buddhist temple that uses a variety of mock meatlikes) can still be good.
Trying to pass vegan food off as a meat substitute is going to turn people off vegan food. You're playing to the *weakness* of the ingredients. Make food that plays to the *strengths* instead!

@nprofile…ug6l Oh definitely! One of my favourite on-going self-owns is the insistence of the USA that, despite the lack of actual evidence (they have more than enough technology to show it) they're utterly convinced that Chinese firms are putting spy chips into everything electronic.
Because that's what they do. And there's documentation of Americans and American allies putting these into products (or, worse, explosives).

@nprofile…ug6l That's a relatively new phenomenon. Line 2 of the Wuhan Metro dragged out for over two years. So badly, in fact, that people were very cynical about line 3.
Only... they'd learned. Line 3 was only a little late, and they got better and better estimating times until now, yes, a lot of lines and extensions open ahead of schedule.
This is the key sneering westerners (especially Americans) keep missing: smart people learn.

@nprofile…ug6l The explosion in electric vehicle use (and not just personal automobiles, note!) has actually been amazing to me. Wuhan's buses are almost all battery-electric now, as are the tram lines. (I'm not 100% positive how the metros are powered: obviously electric, but I'm not sure how the power gets to them.)

Derrida and Barthes in particular were subtle thinkers with intriguing and insightful ideas. (Also stupid ones, but that goes for everybody.) Their immediate apostles, not quite so brilliant, still managed to hammer out details the originals were vague on. It's the next "generation" of disciples that turned it into a dogmatic pile of idiocy.

@nprofile…ug6l It's even worse than that (for capitalists, I mean): the socialist system in China incorporated the better bits of capitalism while keeping it (mostly) on a leash so that it wouldn't run out of control and destroy the country like it is doing to the USA.
*THAT* is what profoundly scares the oligarchs: that life without them being untouchable is literally better for everybody. The day Americans wake up to this is the day the streets run red with (metaphorical, maybe) billionaire blood.

End of story.
You and I will not be agreeing on this. Ever. There is little point in continuing this discussion when our very axioms aren't aligned.
The person who throws the punch is the aggressor. On that person are the subsequent injuries and deaths. The person who crosses the property line to throw that punch in particular is the aggressor.
