Reading Assata Shakur's autobiography and I am beyond pissed about how LE and the judicial system treated her. They set her up, shot her and left her to die. When she didn't die they brought her to the hospital where they imprisoned, intimidated and beat her (while she had a severed nerve rendering her shoulder and arm paralyzed), They violated her right to an attorney; when they finally allowed the call, her attorney had to get a court order for a 5 min visit.

Here's what I recall:
Once the death toll got really high the South most certainly did force enslaved people to fight. So there were definitely enslaved people on the battlefield. And they did not provide them uniforms.
Many enslaved people escaped to the North and volunteered to fight. Black men fighting for the North were killed by Confederates rather then held as POWs.

I saw that on TV! It happened last year and it may have been at Gettysburg as well. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Trust me, those guys know what the war was about. Even if their textbooks said states rights, they've been informed that the issue was slavery. The only reason the reenactors were perplexed was because slaves had not been written into that day's cosplay.
Ultimately the reenactors ran from them. 🤣🤣

I disagree. Whiteness gives an automatic pass until you reveal yourself to be queer, communist, socialist or other characteristics undesirable/unacceptable to the right. Blackness, however, denotes an immediate sentiment of not belonging without the necessity of further elucidation of character.

I thought Amanda Gorman's inaugural poem, The Hill We Climb, was beautiful, inspirational and motivating. I can't believe anyone could possibly have an issue with it. (Then again, I'm not a hateful bigot, so I guess I don't see "wrong" as they might see it).

I'm back to ask for recommendations - this time for children's books. My favorite niece's son just graduated from nursery school. 🥳 I asked her for gift suggestions and she said books!
So, I haven't bought a kid's book in ages. Looking for both sneaky educational and fun books for a 4 1/2 yo.

The party that doesn't want big government is all up in people's personal lives. Banning abortion and withholding medication (for transitioning and abortion) is too damn personal for government involvement.

Just want to say that I hate people who don't even know what Cinco de Mayo commemorates who want to "celebrate" the day with "Mexican food and drink". (Most of what y'all are eating can best be described as Tex-Mex anyway.)
Just say, "I feel like tacos today" and be done with it.
Update: OK I don't actually "hate" the people. Overuse of that word minimizes the depth of the hatred that marginalized people endure. Let's say they annoy me.
