and you can avoid even needing to write a parser if you stick to an established format like jsonlines, csv/tsv, s-expressions, strict-yaml (though i suppose your parser is meant to match taskwarrior’s format; in which case your sync log can literally just be the task warrior command + clock value; wall clock or vector clock if you wanna get fancy )

one person to a database you can probably get away with a merge conflict detector and resolver. CRDT is for massively multiplayer online documents like google docs and introduces a level of complexity that is not free

this is just my style, you don’t need to take cues from me; I’d probably just come up with a simple append-only log format; something like
{create task “make app” [uid]}
{update task done [uid]}
(with the aim of being as simple to parse as possible)
define functions for each log event so that you predictably get the same state from the same log
you can try for a CRDT but you only *need* that if you’re likely to update on many different offline devices and *then* sync. a lot.

it’s your project, I can’t tell you what to do. It just seems… like a lot of complexity to take on for a todo app out the gate. given that you know exactly what kind of data you’re syncing, and you’re likely to be the only user, using something designed to smoothly track changes from thousands of users on arbitrary schemas feels like overkill

I’m not sure how to say this but WASM isn’t a cheap way to avoid “needing to” write javascript. You use wasm when you need to optimise a slow core loop (most commonly, bitcoin mining); or when you have an existing codebase you are trying to port.
If starfing with no wasm; and add wasm, you’re adding the complexity of a build targeting an unstable api surface, to create opaque blobs that more likely than not will wind up unmodifiable in 3 years as the build tool chain used to create it bitrots

it’s uxn, a forth/6502 inspired virtual machine that Devine created for permacomputing
probably looks a little lispy cos Devine is using a font from the xerox alto/smalltalk
more specifically, it’s a macro / structured coding language designed to compile to uxn bytecode, being written inside left, a text editor written on uxn, inside vervara, a set of virtual devices designed to be used from uxn, running in… sdl, but has been ported to e.g. nintendo ds and others

so Display Postscript is an awesome little system used in NeXT and NeWS OS: it’s a way nicer system than Xwindows.
When Apple purchased NeXT snd wanted to make it into their OSX for Macs, they decided the licensing fees for Display Postscript were too much, so they built Quartz to replace it; which was the same API but without the forth-like stack language attached.
then Apple created the html5 Canvas API which was just javascript bindings to quartz

My belief is that text formats feel special because every computer you have ever touched contains the capability to open and edit text, in roughly the same formats as every other computer.
that you do not need to pay extra for this capability, and it is not gatekept behind years of arcane learning. it’s accessible. it’s inspectable. it has an analogous relationship to the keyboard, a computer’s primary input device.

here’s a core assumption about computers that I like to upset: that there’s something special about “plain text” that makes it desirable as the format for all files.
first off, there’s no such thing as “plain text”, there’s a whole list of specifications and standards for various BINARY FORMATS mutually incompatible, and we have through strife and decades of politics kind of settled on UTF-8

a huge formative experience happened when I was 16. I was brought into my mother’s office and hired to compell a guy to use his computer who was refusing to use his computer, and exclusively used his IBM selectric.
First up, the guy was an unlikable jerk. However, first thing he does when I get there is refuse to even talk to me about the situation until AFTER I read The Invisible Computer by Donald Norman.

and my answer is
ideally you don’t
but if you have to, I don’t know
and even if I did know, I couldn’t in good conscience tell you how to build yours
because precisely how you build a great identity system really depends a whole lot on what exactly you need it for, and i have no idea what you in particular need one for.
