so Display Postscript is an awesome little system used in NeXT and NeWS OS: it’s a way nicer system than Xwindows.
When Apple purchased NeXT snd wanted to make it into their OSX for Macs, they decided the licensing fees for Display Postscript were too much, so they built Quartz to replace it; which was the same API but without the forth-like stack language attached.
then Apple created the html5 Canvas API which was just javascript bindings to quartz
