Ihr habt vielleicht auf verschiedenen Social-Media-Netzwerken schon ab und zu diese Grafik gesehen. Ich hab sie jedenfalls häufiger gesehen, und sie hat mich immer geärgert. In the context of the Crowdstrike incident you'll often hear the term EDR. That's essentially a different word for Antivirus software. My guess is it was invented because Antivirus was criticized more and more from Infosec people. So they needed a different term, so they could say "we're not selling an Antivirus, we're selling an EDR". But it's essentially the same thing. You're trying to identify bad software, which is a loosing battle, and comes with substantial risks.

I'm mentioning citrix specifically because it really boggles my mind how they can be still in business. In case you don't remember, there were countless gov entities, hospitals, and what not, hacked in 2020, due to a really epic fuckup by citrix. It was a flaw they knew about, and hadn't provided a fix, only an unreliable workaround that sometimes didn't work.

Their products are flawed not just because they're badly implemented - which they are - but because they are based on a stupid idea. The idea that you improve your IT security by adding more complexity. Doing the opposite is the right approach. But you can't sell that as a product. (You can still sell it, but it's not something you just plug into your network and get security magically.)

Their products are overwhelmingly based on flawed ideas, and the quality of their software is exceptionally bad. Irgendwie würde man sich wünschen dass es Satire ist dass in Berlin eine "Radbahn" auf 200 metern "getestet" wird. Es sagt irgendwie alles darüber was in der Berliner Radpolitik seit Jahren - und über Parteigrenzen hinweg - falsch läuft. I told you I wasn't done with BIMI yet. Part of the BIMI spec is that the SVG logos have to be compliant with a Relax NG schema that defines a secure subset of SVG. This does not look like a bad idea. You can easily validate SVGs against this profile with existing XML tools. Yet... if you don't do it, it doesn't help. I have a question I almost don't dare to ask: is there such a thing as SEO that is not either shady or trivial? Like, you have the basics covered (page is machine-readable HTML, robtos.txt has no syntax errors, metatags, opengraph, etc.), but a SEO agency told you things that you didn't expect, that actually helped in noticeable ways, and that aren't "try to find shady ways to get links from third parties or trick the algorithm"? Today, 16 years ago, Debian published a security advisory announcing CVE-2008-0166, a severe bug in their OpenSSL package that effectively broke the random number generator and limited the key space to a few ten thousand keys. For reasons that I cannot disclose right now, but will soon, I recently looked into BIMI. And... I have some concerns. BIMI is a spec built on top of DKIM and DMARC, and allows companies to show a logo beside their emails in supporting frontends (like gmail). I chose Ubuntu because I had this assumption that "Ubuntu provides regular LTS versions with long support times, so I don't have to change much for a while if I don't want to upgrade." But someone challenged me whether that's actually true, and I checked: Not really. Debian stable versions and Ubuntu LTS versions have similar support timeframes and both do stable releases every 2 years.

I'm getting increasingly convinced that there is a massively underappreciated source of carbon emissions: Accounting tricks. Like, I'm totally not joking. All those additional-not-really-additional-CDM projects, renewable energy sold on paper that was already sold to someone else, fake carbon compensation projects, creatively calculated theoretical emission reductions some project got funding for, that adds up to a lot. If all of that would've been real, we'd be in a better situation.

Worauf Benni sich wohl bezieht ist dass ich in mehreren Artikeln Studien erwähnt habe die für die Umstellung bspw. auf grünes Plastik oder grünen Sprit zu extrem hohen Strombedarfen kommen. Realistischerweise ist das in Deutschland nicht umsetzbar.

For a project I invested a very small sum to see whether linkedin ads would be beneficial. What I'm seeing in the logs is, to put it mildly, confusing. Plenty of referrers from completely unrelated and spammy looking sites, plus *a lot* of example.com. I very much doubt that example.com shares my linkedin post. (TBH it looks like a lot of fraud.) Is anyone familiar with this kind of stuff? Does anyone really understand how these ad ecosystems work, and am I basically paying for bot traffic?

Artikel wie dieser zeigen ganz gut was das Problem mit dem Wasserstoff-Hype ist. Hier werden verschiedene Firmen erwähnt, die auf einen H2-Anschluss warten. Nur: Warum brauchen die Wasserstoff? Können die nicht elektrifizieren? Wäre effizienter. Bei Papier sollte das kein Problem sein, bei Keramik vielleicht. Weiß nicht ob das andere auch so wahrnehmen, aber ich hab das Gefühl der Umgang mit rechten Vorfällen wie Sonneberg oder Burg verschiebt sich. Weg von "was können wir dagegen tun?", hin zu dingen wie "ich werde vermeiden da jemals hinzugehen". Gerade die Vorfälle in Burg werden sicher auch verstärkt dazu führen dass vernünftige Leute aus solchen Regionen wegziehen. Weil sie wissen: Sie kriegen im Zweifel keine Unterstützung.

Eine Sache zum Heizungsgesetz die glaube ich vielen nicht klar ist: Die FDP war sehr laut, aber sehr viel was die wollten ist auch Position der SPD. Den ganzen Wasserstoffkram vertreten die entsprechenden SPD-Fachpolitiker genauso wie die FDP, da muss man nur zuhören was die sagen wenn sie jemand fragt. Das erklärt zum Teil auch warum das Ergebnis so ist wie es ist.

Das ist schon ein krasser Vorgang: Die DPA verbreitet eine Falschmeldung in der von E-Fuels steht, aber Biokraftstoffe gemeint sind, zusammen mit einer völlig unsinnigen Vergleichsrechnung in der der Stromverbrauch von Biokraftstoffen mit E-Autos verglichen wird - und die halbe Medienlandschaft druckt das ab und korrigiert es nicht wenn man drauf hinweist.
