I'm getting increasingly convinced that there is a massively underappreciated source of carbon emissions: Accounting tricks. Like, I'm totally not joking. All those additional-not-really-additional-CDM projects, renewable energy sold on paper that was already sold to someone else, fake carbon compensation projects, creatively calculated theoretical emission reductions some project got funding for, that adds up to a lot. If all of that would've been real, we'd be in a better situation.
