Would say the same of shopstr tbh. I've placed an order through there but DMs don't seem to work. And I have to reload by browser cache (delete all cookies stored data and re sign in) to make new stuff show up (listings, DMs, whatever). It seems really rough around the edges. If you just use it (or something like @npub1h2q…w8ch ) to batch together a few orders before sending it to an on-chain or lightning wallet, it seems reasonable. Lightning really sucks at the "receiving $5 at a time over your current inbound liquidity limit" problem. Cashu will fix this.

Sometimes my client has to go "find" a note from a random relay, often because my relay got the "re-tweet"/reply but not the original. There's no reason a relay should be needed for this operation, a DHT like a magnet link or IPFS would work fine. I assume event IDs aren't hashes, but given that they are signed, you have a similar way to verify authenticity of the note.

If you know C++, look at BOINC (boinc.berkeley.edu). It's a cross-platform, open source tool and permission-less network (anybody can run a boinc project) for distributing large computational loads to computers of volunteers. It's used for cancer research, finding asteroids, and sifting through data from the large hadron collider. Massive userbase but very little dev time. Some of the issues on the github even have bounties on them.

A lot of business owners I know who primarily use USD have this workflow:
1. Do USD books like normal, don't try to integrate BTC into them at all.
2. Establish a wallet or exchange account. As you spend or receive BTC, write it down somewhere so you can go back and figure out what a tx was for, if needed. This could be the memo field in the tx, a separate text document, whatever. Just like when you use USD.
3. At the end of the year when doing capital gains calculations, mark all "incoming" payments to that account as as Income. So that's all accounted for, easy. Likewise, mark all outgoing payments as "expenses" if they are valid business expenses. Most crypto tax calculator sites have ways to do this in bulk.
4. Make sure you record any transfers from one of your own wallets to yourself separately so they don't get tagged as capital gains events in step 3.
5. Whatever account software you use, open a support ticket with them and ask them to add BTC support. They need to hear from people that want this feature, or it'll never get added.

It all depends on your setup. For tax purposes though
1. When you receive BTC, the value at the time of reception is treated as normal income in USD
2. When you sell/dispose of/spend BTC, you pay capital gains on that
3. When you spend BTC (for example, on a business purchase), the equivalent USD value is the amount you would deduct as an expense.
The capital gains accounting is the only real difference vs USD. You can use tools like koinly, cryptotaxcalculator, etc for that.

Issue isn't sexiness, it's functionality. It UX as a whole. DMs are broken on most clients. Reliability is low. WoT doesn't seem to actually be used in any meaninful way, discovery is difficult. Most clients have zero built-in filtering, making your global feed a venture in dangerous territory. I shouldn't have to tell my client to hide posts with the n word, 90% of users want this hidden by default, as a very basic example.

Since they are in lightning, yes, in theory, you should open your wallet once every week or two depending on the settings of your channels. If you use an LSP, and you trust your LSP not to rug you, don't need to worry about it. In practice, the attack where somebody tried to rug you by force closing a channel with the incorrect amount of unheard of. I don't know anybody it's happened to. If they are caught (by the blockchain/your wallet), there is a significant penalty, and it's all automatic, so there's really no incentive to try to cheat the system.

I don't think that's entirely accurate either. In order for them to accept lightning payments using LNURL (yourname@coinos), they need to take custody of the funds OR use a HODL/zaplocker invoice (like Zeus does). If you don't need to deal with multiple users/employees having separate logins, strike would work great, either as a "single user" or as a business account (longer onboarding process).
BTCPay Server is the ultimate solution for the BTC payment side. For card payments, Square is pretty popular. If you have a woocommerce store, you can do both in the same place, there's probably some way to use woocommerce as a PoS. If you don't want to host your own BTCPay server, you can use a service like opennode for basically free.
For accounting, Quickbooks is pretty standard. Everybody hates it but all the alternatives are pretty bad. Xero is decent. Use what your CPA wants.

They've been trying for years and all they have so far is "increase speed via centralization. Bitcoin solved that scalability issue w lightning, no additional centralization required.
What about other improvements? Bitcoin can take that technology and absorb it. Then people will have the question: do I use "new chain" which is less secure and widely adopted because it has feature x? You can use as many clients as you like, content generally syncs between them all seamlessly. Nostr is still rough around the edges in some places, media upload is definitely one of those places. Just use what works and don't worry about the rest. Also suggest setting up a wallet so you can send/receive zaps. https://coinos.io/ is a simple wallet to get started with.

Your "view" of the network depends on what relays you are connected to. So if you are connected to different relays in different apps, you may see different things. Best practice is probably to publish to many relays if you want lots of reach. However, if you have followers, their clients will automatically fetch stuff from whatever relays you're already on (even if they aren't normally in their relay list). That's my understanding of it at least.

Nostr, at a protocol level, does support this, but each app displays differently or doesn't display it at all. if you use nostrudel, you can find it in profile -> reactions. 100,000 seems high, I remember being able to get started with like $5. You may be in the "purchase channel" section, Instead just go to lightning -> receive and it will say "blah blah there's a setup fee" but you can do it for much smaller amounts. The fee should be something like $1, not $100.
There is a bit of a learning curve, but that's the price for self-custody right now unfortunately.

There is legal ambiguity for exchanges and custodial wallets and so they are scared to serve US customers. There are also plenty of free custodial lightning services, coinos is a popular one right now. Then you don't have to worry about lightning channel sizes, etc. Simpler, but you are placing trust in a custodian who may steal your funds. That's fine for zaps, not great for your monthly rent.

Think of a lightning channel like a bucket full of water. The bucket is the channel and water is sats (Bitcoin). When you first buy the bucket, it is full of water, so you can't add any more water to it (receive transactions). But you can pour water out (send transactions) which frees up room in the bucket! You can pour out and add water as many times as you like.
So, I would suggest receiving $5-$20 to start, this gives you plenty of room for zaps. Then either zap some people or use a service like boltz.exchange which will (in a non-custodial way) spent from your lightning channel and return the funds to you on-chain for around 1% fee plus the cost of an on-chain tx. You start with $20, you end up with a channel which can receive roughly $19 and you also have $19 stored on-chain.
Sounds complicated, but becomes intuitive once you've done it a few times.

Idk about breeze, I've never used it, but the numbers speak for themselves. Zeus and Phoenix are self-custody wallets that take 5 minutes to download and receive your first transaction in. If breeze was giving you trouble, I encourage you to try another wallet. If you haven't tried payments to several different parties, it's possible your receiving party did something wrong (like sent you an expired invoice or something).

Sounds like something only coinos support can answer. This is a good opportunity to look into self-custody zap solutions. If you use a custodial wallet, there is always a risk your custodian ends up not being trustworthy, or getting hacked. Self-custody should be used for any amounts which are significant. Zeus is a great self-custody mobile wallet and will give you a lightning address people can zap.

Bitcoin has a larger hashrate, a larger network effect/larger adoption, a larger developer pool, and a functioning L2. Market cap doesn't matter, except that it also means more investment into infrastructure, more buy-in into the system, etc. These effects are multiplicative. And remember that Bitcoin can "absorb" innovations made in other chains, as it did with zero-knowledge proofs and other tech. The functional L2 is very very important as a P2P money protocol. You cannot scale L1 to contain all global transactions unless you make it hella centralized (blocksize debate) or build L2s and L3s. Monero has plans for an L2, but it's debatable if they actually have the development resources to pull it off. Lightning took years to get to where it is now.

Variable Block Size
This is another way to say "big blocks, when we need them". If monero actually becomes the global P2P currency, this will be "big blocks, all the time". It's antithetical to decentralization. The higher the block size, the greater hardware resources to run a node. You can run a full Bitcoin node on a laptop from 10 years ago. The majority of Eth nodes are in corporate datacenters because it's not realistic to run it on home hardware/connection. Big blocks are not a real scaling solution for any decentralized system.
Privacy
Monero beats Bitcoin in this, there is no doubt. However, lightning and other L2s make significant gains in privacy for Bitcoin. Bitcoin can always upgrade to a more private protocol if it wants to, and many key people in the Bitcoin world are calling for it. Perhaps this will happen during the transition to post-quantum encryption. Things like coinjoin etc, if common, may also solve this problem. Monero's reputation as a privacy coin has caused some major legislative/political/adoption hurdles that Bitcoin hasn't had to face.
