My recent experiment involved using this leather alternative (grown from reishi mushrooms) as a drum head.
It's developed by a company called Mycoworks and they didn't tell me that it's embedded with a linen weave, but that makes sense, and it turned out to be a good thing, because although reishi is quite tough, it ain't quite rawhide, in terms of tensile strength.
But having the weave seems to help it pass muster and produce a pleasing drum sound which is like no other. The first test drum ripped a little, the second did not. They both sound great, and the aura of each feels really nice.

Is this the world's first ever reishi djembe? Either way, this was a really fun personal project for me.
Mycoworks is a company that is developing leather alternatives for fine luxury bags (fungus-based, instead of animal-based).
They sent me a sample in order to see if this new material can be used for percussion instruments.
THE ANSWER IS YES!
It sounds not like a djembe (traditionally goat skin), nor a conga (traditionally cow hide), but more like an Irish bodhrán or a Native American frame drum.

Wow!
The Story of ₿ is not a book about ₿itcoin, as it was released in 1996, but it happens to be a book about why it's so difficult to orange-pill people, why cultural programming is so pervasive and powerful, and why paradigms don't shift until minds change.
It's recommended that you put on some Satoshi Shades to read (or like my case, re-read) this cult classic about the ultimate futility of totalitarian agriculture, and how the agricultural revolution was the situation described in the Bible as the Fall from Grace, leading to the ruin of humankind.
The book reads like a prologue or a prequel to the story of ₿itcoin entering the zeitgeist. IMHO, this is a ₿itcoin ₿ook for ₿itcoiners.

Recently finished reading "Softwar," and it has compelled me to reread "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn because of the strong thematic parallels that stood out for me, although "Ishmael" is fiction.
Nevertheless, the two books are talking about a lot of the same things, but "Ishmael" predates bitcoin by almost 20 years, and predates Adam Back's hashcash by 5 years.
It's great to read (or in my case re-read) the works of Daniel Quinn, but viewed through the lens of bitcoin-inspired Softwar.
It's also my intention to next reread Quinn's other two related works:
The Story of ₿ (1996)
My Ishmael (1997)
These were good books anway

This has been the #1 news feed to watch for disconnecting from the dysfunctional bubble of human affairs and spending some time in the real world for a while.
The mother Jackie is the first eaglet to be born on camera in Big Bear Valley, and now she has eaglets of her own. There was no snow when the eggs hatched, but equinox isn't till next week, and the struggle is real.

Great question!
The author unfortunately didn't have a clear idea of all the causes, he was just able to recognize something fundamentally off about it all, and used Mayan civilization as a prime example, claiming that Mayans simply walked back into the jungle and never engaged in civilization building again (his claim, not mine.)
It confused me at the time of reading, and it deserves to be revisited again by me, armed with insight from Softwar. Looking forward to it!

About 3/4 though the book now, and it's certainly worth reading for me.
Softwar may be an original thought in its exact manifestation, but it is standing on the shoulders of some older ideas. Lots of people have written about how bitcoin is the next level of power projection beyond kinetic energy, but Softwar seems to be the first formalized thesis on the topic, not just comments in threads.
However, while reading Softwar, it repeatedly reminds me of an author whose books from the 1990s repeatedly touched on the concept of human civilization reaching an unavoidable breaking point after which dissolution and reorganization becomes inevitable. The same author also described pre-industrial societies and their critical need to repeatedly engage in tribal warfare that severely injured, but did not kill their rivals in neighboring tribes.
It makes me want to read these books again (some for the third or fourth time), the books by Daniel Quinn, and his four books most relevant to the topic and theme of Softwar are:
"Ishmael" 1992
"The Story of ₿" 1996
"My Ishmael" 1997
"Beyond Civilization" 1999
Good reads for further exploration of ideas presented in Softwar.

Ego is programmed to be desperate for self-preservation at all costs.
This means ego will conjure up fantasies in an attempt to satisfy this impossible desire, delusions like Heaven and reincarnation.
But how do we really know that anything non physical persists after the disintegration of this physical shell?
If the body is completely erased, is it not ego's pride to insist that ego itself can persist even without the body that generated it?
On the other hand, laws of thermodynamics suggest that no energy in this cosmos is ever created or destroyed.
This gives us an amount of certainty about what happens after death, at least for the living who witness it: the energy that animated the person is not gone and never will be, and has no "elsewhere" to go in such a closed system as this.
So to suggest that the physical shell will cease to be, but a remnant of personalized consciousness shall remain, this strikes me as another absurdity from the desperate ego.
This is just more separation from wholeness driven by ego. Wholeness, oneness, and connection are not found in an afterlife consisting of separation from everything else that existed beforehand on Earth.
It is found by connecting in the present with everything here and now.
It seems more like we are waves, we think ourselves real and individual, thanks to our egos, and we have a moment of realness to us, but in fact we're nothing more than the energy of the sea itself.
This connects me to everything very strongly, because you are not a drop of water in the ocean, you are the ocean in a drop of water, like me.

Until the introduction of these peroxidases, the lignin had been turning slowly into coal, which apparently doesn't happen any more. It seems that no fresh coal will ever again form naturally on Earth, thanks to white-rot fungi. Fascinating! (This anecdote was learned by reading "Entangled Life" from Merlin Sheldrake.)
