A busy weekend of prepping the RV for camping lies ahead. There will be fire, snacks, lots of work and cleaning, and then perhaps a Scrabble or Cribbage battle over burgers tonight. 😁

Free old lady advice of the day ~ Exercise and STRETCH today. Repeat every day. Your body is taking notes that don't get reviewed and compiled until you are about 50.
In other news, about a quarter of my body is tweaking TF out. Apparently this is what happens now when I don't see my masseuse for three weeks and then try to move an awkward piece of furniture. 😅

Hope everyone else has a day free of car troubles.
My little VW is finally falling apart. For the third time a window has jumped the track and is inside the door. Both rocker panels rusting. I've known it was about done but Spring in Maine is not the season for drafty driving.
So I have been used car shopping and it is draining my will to live.
I've always hated it but the prices are now actually insane. $8-10,000 for cars that have 100,000 and more miles on them is bat-crap crazy.
Not looking forward to driving over an hour, one way, to New Hampshire today. Hopefully their little cars aren't rust buckets and I can bring one home.
It's a small, family run lot so maybe I'll try to talk them into taking BTC instead of fiat ... 🤔

Spring muck storm commencing here in the northeast USA. What is referred to as a Wintry Mix. This means slush is falling from the sky.
So I'm not going anywhere today. The plan is for maximum kitchen-time. Making keto fluff, ghee, a new batch of yogurt from frozen starter, and (if I don't run out of energy) some of @nprofile…y8wt 's pizza. Also cooking big chunks of meat for the week and freezer.
Along with the regular housework, the day is going to fly right by.

Today we celebrate medical test results that show nothing crazy alarming. Going to trial some supplements, all prayers welcome.
Also celebrating having found direct primary care in the past. My Doc is amazing and humble enough to admit when allopathic medicine doesn't offer a solution. He has the resources and knowledge to find supps that aren't full of lead and sawdust too, which is nice.
The goal is to be as healthy as possible when I cross that 50 year threshold in a few months.
Everything gets so much more difficult as you age, start getting better right now is my advice.
It's not easy to practice gratitude on Thursdays. Thursdays can be rough.😅

Happy Friday! It's been a rough January so let's be glad that's almost over.
Random book(s) of the day: Green Pharmacy by Barbara Griggs
I hate picking up an old book and having the cover come right off. So I bought a book on book repair (Book Repair for Booksellers by Joyce Godsey), because I should have already had one.
Fixed enough for now. Might use it to practice binding stitching later.
I'm annoyed all over again though. There are certain points in history that could have gone better. Both heroic and herbal medicine have their place, IMO, but human nature just couldn't allow that.🙄
This is the book that started me off reading slices of human history that weren't necessarily all about the wars and those who fought them.

Gm and Merry Christmas!
This is a low energy holiday for us as Thanksgiving is the yearly big get together. Today it's the immediate family hanging out all day.
None of us eat anywhere near as much sugar as we used to, so one pie and one plate of cookies.
A Cornish hen each with a couple sides for four is easy peasy. Everyone has a new book, there will be a Scrabble game or three, the yearly turning on of the old TV to put on Christmas specials.
Just a nice quiet day to recharge.🎄

I had to spend several days away from my home for Hubby's medical procedure and I hated every second of it. I don't know if it's because I moved around so much as a kid but I am a terribly set in my ways homebody. I don't even like this apartment but I am so glad to be back in it.
I don't even enjoy travel for vacations to nice places anymore.🥲
Traffic, hotels, strange food, crowds, just the worst. Not getting on a plane willingly ever again.
Going to whistle through housework this weekend, grateful to be in my place while still plotting to GTFO to a better one.

This year I am so very thankful for the strange and random path life has taken. My chaotic 'career' path, a coworker who listened to Beck, Beck's reading lists, my own compulsive need to read, all that came together to lead me to trying to wrap my head around hard money and all this other stuff. Grateful to be alive in this time, even though I feel a bit old for it most days.😅
The one book that I recommend to anyone I think might read it is New Deal or Raw Deal. Americans do not hate that SOB FDR enough.

I've been doing bit by bit for a while now. The key is to not guilt yourself if you can't find time once in a while and you wind up grabbing whatever it is at the store. It get easier with time.
Start with one thing you think is doable. Laundry soap to a homemade version of a snack you like, there's a video out there somewhere showing you how to do it.
The recipe I use is pretty standard and easy to find online.
For 5 gallons -
Grated bar of Fels Naptha (or Castile Soap) dissolved into 4 cups hot water, put in pot, heat on medium until it dissolves all the way, 10-15 minutes. (do not wander of while this is heating, it can bubble over if it gets too hot)
Fill bucket halfway with hot water and stir in the soap mix, 1 cup borax, and 1 cup of washing soda. I don't add essential oils to scent mine but you can, doesn't take much.
If the bucket isn't full I top it off. Stir until it's all mixed.
After about 24 hours it sets up to a gloppy gel unless it's really warm. I use 1/2 cup so that's 160 loads.

Treat junk food is like any other addiction. It took me 5 tries to quit cigarettes. I'm still working on quitting junk food but am having greater success this go around.
Learning about how habits make us tick (The Power of Habit - Duhigg) and coming up with ways to redirect mine has been very helpful.
You can do it. Keep trying. Future you will thank you for it.🙂

Seeing so many people say they're selling their homes because it's cheaper to rent. As someone who might commit murder at this point to get out of this apartment, I do not understand this mindset at all.
Are they talking about renting a house? Because that's just paying someone else's mortgage and renting an apartment has way more downsides than up.
Having a boundary that is yours, having somewhere your children set down roots, these are not things people should undervalue.

My vote would be for pan-fried in bacon grease. So yummy.
Hubby would want to use his little fryer full of "vegetable oil" though. He thinks I'm nuts about seed oils.
The jam would be a lot of sugar but would be an interesting flavor we can't get off the shelf.
