I agree with much of this.
While not a solution, I believe a way forward is going to entail increasing the number of eyes on the codebase, PRs and proposals. Maybe Im mistaken, but I feel like there's a brain drain effect happening, and if we as a community dont address that, not only will we ossify by default, but we'll be at risk of not being able to adequately address risks in a timely manner.
Im still in favor of OP_CTV. Its unfortunate that a rift was created over premature discussion of activation methods prior to achieving community buyin. In the intervening years, more seem to be in favor, but its not clear that consensus is there yet.
It doesnt help that when a core dev gets upset over how discussions go on the devlist or github issues that some take to twitter to incite the mob.
The most important point of the post though is that about inaction. Doing nothing is not ideal. We must act.

100k is a very small UTXO. While they exist, I don't recommend of that size because higher fees in future could use substantial percentage of value.
One alternative that some people do is use Liquid as a go between. This allows you to swap funds out of lightning via something like boltz.exchange, to an address you control, and then later consolidate those liquid transactions to a larger layer 1 bitcoin UTXO.
You really need to look trough your total costs though, whether paying swap fees, or considering current mempool fees, or future fees. I make an assumption that any UTXO may cost upwards of 50000 sats to spend in a high fee environment, and dont want to be trapped in an unspendable position.

Shit looks like I got a bit of a learning curve ahead of me, I haven’t even heard of Maeve yet…just got my little old nsec generated in Damus & put into primal also, trying to be careful not to spread it around too much.
I’m guessing nostore or nsec or amber are key management tools like the browser extensions Alby only better opsec since not in browser.

This is a great idea and easy to understand abstraction from the deprecated follow list. A caveat though is that it externalizes to relay configuration. Additional features can be built for that for import/export for backups. Im curious of the extent of net reduction in network data consumed through this approach.
It should also pair nicely with any topical lists you've defined. Ive recently sorted everyone I was following into respective topical lists and dropped some in the process. Smaller lists makes for less data being sent to relays for requesting notes then a typical follow list.
Its about curation in layers. Being in control of your own feed takes effort, but is rewarding.

Just seeing this now while vetting your pubkey. This is actually by design. Every link that is rendered in the chat provides either 1 or 2 clickable portions. If there is no querystring, then its one clickable link to the target. If the link contains a querystring, then everything before the demarcation is a link going to the resource without the querystring, and the second link is on the querystring portion for the entire url. There is a slight styling difference, which could be improved to make it more clear
TL;DR --- Skipping past the don't trust verify that should apply to all code and preference for hand holding to get to a built state, the actual application needs some care to make it more informative, and more forgiving. If something is configured wrong, prompt for new values. Provide some way to "go back" in the config steps. Be overly clear on what is expected of each field as the context could be the user or the repo. I still dont know what value I need for repo-relay or its relevance

🔴 NGIT INIT
Running ngit init presents a qr code to use in a remote signer. I choose 'n' for no, and have a prompt for login with nsec, bunker url, or nostr address. I choose a nostr address which isn't configured for remote login. So then I try to just spin up a new nsec, and save the login details.
Then I'm prompted for name (mine? the repo?), identifier, and description. After analyzing nip-34, I beleive this correlates to the name of the repository, d-tag, and description. After that is successfully entered, I get prompted for clone url (for fetch), so I use a mirror

I didn't know what to put for relays and tried to enter a question mark thinking that would provide help on whether I need to specify a comma delimited list of values, include wss:// prefix etc. Nope, it took that question mark as the string to attempt and later indicated impossible to parse URL: relative URL without a base. For obvious reasions, the built in attempt to use nostr.mutinywallet.com also failed.
A maintainers.yaml file was created. I make changes to the file for the relays. Then commit and merge using normal git commands.
🔴 NGIT SEND
Next I attempt to ngit send and need to select commits for proposal. I'll just select the one I just sent. I get the warning about it already being in main, but I send anyway. I get an error that it cannot find profile.
Seeing as my generated nsec/npub has no profile yet, I guess this is a dependency. So I quickly make a kind 0 event and retry
Next it declares that it cannot find my relay ilst and I should consider using another nostr client to create one to enhance my nostr experience. At least it recognizes that I'm logged in as corny-chat-ngit-signer. I attempt to configure relays via nostrudel, but ngit never sees those updates. Weird that it can't just work with the relays specified in the maintainers.yaml file. So then I login to coracle and configure relays there with the hopes it'll publish the requisite events. It claim kind 10002 is being published
Now it seems to progress. I make a test branch, simple file change, local commit, then ngit send
repo-relay is still failing for impossible to parse URL : relative URL without a base
One of the relays I've configured requires auth, but it seems to have pushed it and provided this output

In your case you're using GitCitadel, which actually takes effort on the part of whoever has configured that. Theres currently 16 registered pubkeys as far as I can tell, so its not just churning out accounts and is a bit community oriented.
As a proper attestation that the username at that domain points to your pubkey for verification and that you control that configuration.
The majority of people wont do that, for the same reason the majority of people wont run nostr relays, bitcoin nodes, and will generally use custodial services as they have in the past.
Its not for everyone, which is why i noted "if you are able to". For people that want to be more empowered, more in control, more sovereign, its low hanging fruit

The ecash and the sats within both systems are NOT the same.
In cashu, the ecash tokens are just that, tokens. New cryptologic proofs which have no relation to Bitcoin or sats. Lightning MAY be used, but is not required, to bridge to other nodes and participate in existing networks. A token from mint A labeled as "sats" is not directly compatible with the same token from mint B. Both mints are doing a swap when sending value from one to the other. When you send sats to a mint, you're effectively selling your sats for an arbitrary token. When you want to use your tokens in a mint to pay a lightning invoice, your hoping the mint fulfills that request at a reasonable exchange rate.

Brief summary of my experience during day 2 of TABConf...
Got to see the Simulating Lightning Scenarios with Doppler workshop. Very cool. Also Taproot Assets on Lightning Workshop cleared up some current limitations.
Ran with a group for a 5K and along the way saw some sights on campus. A little over halfway through we passed a snowball fight. Then when we got close to getting back to start we had to detour and do some offroad running.
Throughout the day worked more on our teams hackathon project... a new Nostr app.. coming soon.

First day of TABConf was amazing. Still way to much stuff to take in even with the first two days focused on Workshops and Builder Days.
Grateful to be able to meet a few awesome nostriches, and talk to various developers working on some Bitcoin stuff. One was working on a hackathon project tied into DLCs. Another dev was building on some CLI tools for nostr relays. Another I spoke to was working on a clipboard viewer tool for Bitcoin and Nostr named Branta.
I spent some time listening to information about Anduro Coordinate, and took part in the CODEX32 workshop. In addition, some cool hardware things to play with including a colorful light up badge where people can play laser tag, and a lilygo T-Display JADE wallet.
Looking forward to tomorrow. For now I'm doing some code for a hackathon, will be grabbing a glass of wine, and then hop into Corny Chat for some chat and Snow Crash reading.

Is anyone working on a project to...
1) Mobile nostr client (e.g. Amethyst, Damus, Amber) to start
2) Import/Export private key/nsec to a NFC card (even simply stored clear text)
This still uses the native mobile apps for signing, but is creating some form of physical backup.
Now take this further, and yes you could incorporate nfc card readers for desktop and browser... how about cards preinitialized?
Yes, the creator will have those keys as well, but there are real world use cases where this is warranted. Organizations with key issuance and escrow comes to mind.
I know there's all kinds of pros and cons to unencrypted storage like this, ability to copy etc, Im just curious what, if any, projects are exploring naive approaches like this, easier to mass rollout vs actual physical signing devices.
My gut thinks this is wasteful, and that the real solution for custodial masses will simply be the same old custodial control we've had in the past. Im just not sure if global focus should be on identity issuance, self identity, self signing, or full sovereignty

When I walked in, the barista said…”you got me looking into ₿itcoin now.” I said that’s awesome, now you got to get the owner (who was standing next to her) to look into lightning payments. We then had a conversation about it, I shilled @npub1ex7…vyt9 to him that he could promote the app as the payment mechanism to the customers, offer a discount to use it, etc. I then demonstrated making a payment to a fellow pleb @npub12gu…fle6 and explained that the payment was sent around the world instantly. When I left, he said I’m definitely going to look more into this. The wheels are turning plebs. 🫡🤔
