I don't have a problem with edits if you can see the edit trail aka the different versions. Deletes are something else though, on nostr, I do appreciate being able to do a delete request (which may or may not be honoured by apps) when, for example, the nostrix glitches and double- or triple publishes my notes. But yeah, in general deletes shouldn't be a thing.

I got an orange Ledger from BTC Amsterdam in a drawer and don't know what to do with it.
I hear you though wasn't there a major event couple of years ago. The US made the news for sending their chicken to China for processing to get back whatever the Chinese would send back (probably not even chicken). But, I don't live there, I only run on statistics I can source from the internet and based on those the US is as dependant on imports as almost any other country. 25 years of globalisation agendas has driven most countries into far too much dependency on foreign goods. All for the sake of consumerism and "cheap" shit most people don't even need.

I still think you are equating two things that are not the same, imo. Being depressed is being helpless and believing nothing will go right and there’s no reason to do anything at all.
Simply being overwhelmed with thinking about what you need to do to get through the day is not depression.
Related: optimism is explicitly not situation dependent, like by definition it isn’t, because all problems are only relative. It’s very much like value. An example might be aboriginal tribes who are deeply poor and don’t even understand the type of wealth available in the world, but does this make them all horribly depressed?

I think the strategy for that probably differs a lot from person to person.
Example, I have good luck following a bunch of active accounts and then narrowing it down as I see more of what they post to start off, then when the feed feels good start slowly adding later.
In other words editing as I go is more natural to me than being meticulous about it at the start when I have little frame of reference.
I bet it’s different for different people.
You keep saying that you were censored, but you weren't. You had someone tell their followers to unfollow you. That's not censorship. You're still free to post and do whatever you want on Nostr. The freedom exists in that you can do zaps4follows and someone else can hate that and complain about it. Both parties are free to do whatever they see fit.

I agree on these points in principle, but I am looking at it as zaps4follows is someone just having a different algorithm than I do. Theirs has a monetary commitment and that's okay by me. I do 100% agree it's not genuine though. That's why I wouldn't do it.
Paying someone to follow me is dumb. The profiles who do this are most likely trying to make their follower count high in order to make others think they are important.
The problem is follower counts on Nostr is not important because 1, the followers list takes way to long to load, 2, many of the followers are bots.
I wouldn't do it either but I don't really care if others do it. Until they add some sort of defense like charging 3 Satoshi in order to follow someone then follower and following counts won't matter.

what are your thoughts on zaps4follows? my take is that nostr gives us the freedom to do whatever we want. i wouldn't do it. i think it's spammy and scammy. however, i also understand with very little algorithmic help, it's hard for new npubs to gain traction. if someone wants to offer the hardest money we have for some follows and engagement, i say that proof of work, the freedom to communicate, and the free market are working as intended. on the other side of the argument, if you don't like it, you're also free to complain. nostr gives us that freedom too.

It’s explicitly P2P, Nostr isn’t that and would need a P2P protocol for it. So it’s either Pear or BitTorrent really. Pear has a much more complete stack so I have to invent way less stuff.
We are using Nostr for what it’s great at. It will be the profile and ID and WoT for sharing and publishing public drives. Again, I don’t want to invent anything that I don’t have to, I just want it to work.
Nostr is great for its network and how to authenticate and communicate with users. Pear is excellent at directly connecting and delivering files without any port forwarding, DNS, hosting or any of that bullshit. So I use them both where they work best.
If this causes a problem and doesn’t work for some reason down the line, I’ll just use a different tool that does the job, but right now it seems like Pear + Nostr makes it work intuitively, and that’s all I care about.

There is something really ironic about voting to decrease the influence of government in your life just to see your vote not only increasing your own taxes but sparking a chain reaction of all global governments hitting each other with even more taxes.
Yes and no. There are plenty of cookie cutter ugly box houses but if you don’t buy one of those you can get very unique with your new home depending on the budget. I think most homes end up looking somewhat the same due to budget constraints, but I’ve seen some weird designs out there. The home I’m building is unique, there are none like it.

Seems logical for large urban areas as they increasingly run out of space. My recommendation to those people would be to not live in a large urban environment… but easier said than done given work opportunities.
I’m not sure if that’s true. I don’t know the full scale of planning here. It seems to be kind of random but does creat walkable spaces. You can typically get everything you need in a walking distance. In rural areas less so, obviously.
One thing I like about Japan is that houses are not used as a speculative asset. Commercial real estate more so, but homes are generally built to be lived in.
Culturally, it’s less common to buy a home and renovate it - you typically do this if you don’t have any money at all because homes don’t appreciate in value and you can get older homes for cheaper. Typically what people do is buy a property that may have an older house sitting on it, and they’ll tear it down completely. I think part of it has to do with building codes (everything must be brough up to the newest siesmic standards. But also, culturally people generally want a home that is made just for them and fits their needs. It also helps that the zoning laws are much more friendly compare to western nations. You can build a home just about anywhere and even attach a business to it. It’s not uncommon to see barber shops, cafes, doctor’s offices attached right to a new house or just be part of that residence (say, business on the bottom, living on the top). New construction is easily permitted if space allows. My neighborhood is undergoing a massive change with construction popping up everywhere. It seems every week I discover new housing going up just by walking around the neighborhood. Construction is fast too. Framing is done in 1 or 2 days, foundation takes about a week, and full construction usually takes about 5 months, but I’ve seen homes going up in less time. Custom homes takes longer, but that’s understandable. Generally, homes are smaller - mostly due to space constraints in urban areas, and costs in rural. Land is affordable, but it can get quite pricey with custom plans. But, if you are moving from a costly area elsewhere like the US or particulally one of the coasts, it would seem incredibly cheap to build here.
Yeah. And with climate change it’s even worse because rice yields are lagging. Japan just recently had to open up the national rice reserves due to shortages.
We got seafood going for us, and do ok with poultry and pork. Beef lags but we have the best beef in the world.

According to a quick search Japan is only 38% self sufficient in terms of food.
But locally where i am the bulk of our products are domestic.
Electronics wise there are some good options. Obviously, cars, plenty to choose from.
People who understand free market capitalism with sound money understand that homogeneous is not important.
What is important is the laws of the country. The laws of the country will give you freedom and richness and homogeneous will be the last thing on your mind.
Yes we are heading that way but if you want it to speed up a financial crisis has to happen for people to lose trust in the fiat system and rush into a Bitcoin the companies have to start accepting Bitcoin and not fiat. It will eventually happen.

This may seem controversial, but I actually like that Japan is homogeneous. It’s more pronounced where I am compared to say Tokyo and I don’t think I like the “diversity” of Tokyo. Japan has a distinct culture and you can feel it in the rural areas more so than large cities. Having more international visitors seems to dilute this unique cultural vibe. I’m part of the problem too, I’m not exactly fitting in. That’s not to say that tourism is not welcome - but I don’t think people should aim to live in this country. Japan faces somewhat of a population crisis and will require more people emigrating here, and that’ll likely make it feel even less unique, which kind of saddens me.
If it were up to me I’d dismantle all malls and get rid of all the international chain brands. They can ship to homes but don’t pollute the area with global corpo sameness. I know, of exactly free market but that’s how I feel.
That's dumb. You're usually making corporations richer as most Japanese companies are not even Japanese. They are globalist global companiew.
Buy whatever is cheapest and put the rest into Bitcoin.
