There is a fundamental difference between #complexity for the sake of convenience (I can build an entire app quickly. Think #JavaScript framework of the day), vs complexity for the sake of robustness (I can make changes to the app quickly without introducing new bugs. Think #Rust or #Haskell).
When you are not familiar with the tech, both can look the same, but they are not. The latter is actually #simplicity in disguise

Sure, I get how wikipedia is tiny and volunteer driven, and as a consequence things like this may not be high priority.
However I still want to highlight the issue that this *could* be a lot more frictionless in India. Indian payment systems are not as cumbersome as US payment systems, and I would be happy to see a deeper integration someday. If the Indian govt has some regulatory restriction here (which it well may), I would be glad to read more about it.

Turns out that doing this is not enough. Sometimes the image would be copied but won't paste. You need the application to stay alive in the background for the paste to work correctly. ShareToClipboard also suffers from the same problem. Well it's fixed in KlipOn now.

Yeah this is the read only file system bug, but it's not the only one I have encountered (though it was the worst). For example the switch to AppleFS broke many tools. And things occasionally break due to the case insensitive filesystem on MacOS. MacOS can't read NTFS disks (which is what I use on external hard disks for windows+linux compatibility), nor can anything else read applefs disks. Doing anything dev related on MacOS just feels like building a house on sand which may shift anytime. Linux's security model in contrast has been rock solid for decades

This post was only half in jest. I mean, why would you choose to buy an expensive dev machine where basic dev things like docker and nix have issues, you don't get access to a large chunk of the massive linux ecosystem, and give up on compatibility between the production environment (almost certainly Linux) and your dev env.
And on top of that you can't even customize things your way, or try a different DE or distro, or decide what runs on your own hardware, and where basic OS functionality requires paying even more money,
All the while contributing to making the richest corporation on earth richer,
But it's pretty I guess.

- It needs to work off a cellphone, likely an easily installable FOSS app
- It needs to work without any configurable settings at all. The system needs to be an install and forget system for the Indian population to use it
- It needs to be integrated with a mapping application
- Above all, it needs to be a self reinforcing feedback loop. Using the app should reward you with a smoother journey, leading to more people using the app, leading to better and better coordination. The prisoners dilemma is all too real in everything you do in India. If someone can save a couple of minutes at the cost of screwing 100s of others out of hours, they would do it without even thinking about it

Names are words. Why not phrases? When communicating with others using natural language, we don't give names to every concept, but we instead generate phrases and sentences on the fly. Programming, should be like natural language, composed of a smaller number of primitives that can be combined in many ways without having to create pointers to parts of the structure. In the existing programming languages yes you need to depend on descriptive names, but the ideal programming language would be expressive enough to not require it. Where you can read a "paragraph" of code in one go and understand it perfectly, without jumping around, without thinking about its dependencies to anywhere else in the code.
We can do that in English. I can say "and at those words, it was done". There are lots of things left unspecified, but you understand the meaning of this phrase perfectly without having to name what "those words" are, or what was done, or by whom. Without knowing any context at all, you can manipulate the logic, for example to negate the meaning and say "and even at those words, it was not done". It feels natural, and I feel that this is easier for the human mind to understand and manipulate than a scheme with a lot of names and pointers to other things. I'm imagining lawyer speak - "and when the party of the first part, said the words as described in paragraph 24 of the preceding section, the work as described in the contract signed between the aforementioned parties was completed by the party of the second part".

Don't name things, I completely agree with everything in this post.
One of the biggest sticking point in #Concur is that I don't want to link parts of an application with dynamic names. A good API composes parts together completely anonymously, so there's no friction in modifying the parts.
This also applies to naming datatypes. Naming datatypes leads to the expression problem where extending datatypes is a pain. Well, extending datatypes is less of a pain if it was built by extending upon primitives in the first place.

It's about expectations. I'm fine with violence in a film clearly marked as such, but casual random violence in a "realistic" movie without an inherently violent premise is jarring and inexplicable.
Almost every everyday situation in this movie seems to lead to physical violence. Within the first few minutes - a man asks his boss for time off and gets verbally abused, a man asks the principal of the school to apologise and gets abused and physically beaten up, a man brutally beats up the manager at an auto shop because he lost a pair of sunglasses, a man goes to the police station to file an FIR and gets abused and physically beaten up. I really couldn't watch any more.
It's all rather bizarre. It's as if the target audience thinks that reacting to everything with violence is normal and entertaining.
