One thing I found interesting about Taro is that it is poisonous raw but not once boiled. I can't think of other foods like that.

Being a fan of the show "Life after People" I am fascinated by photos like this. I think it is important for humans to understand they are not forever but part of the bigger whole billions of years long.

Great photo.
I love solo hiking for many of the reasons you give. I'll add in for me it makes planning and getting to the trailhead usually easier. Also I usually see more wildlife when alone.

I was watching a doomsday YouTube on AI. The thought occurred to me is why would advanced AI stay on the Earth?
AI wouldn't be tied at all the the ecosystem of Earth unlike humans. There's a lot more energy and materials out in space.
Why bother destroying the biologicals on Earth? Just leave them all behind.

That is clearly the better long term solution.
Recently Chris Hayes on MSNBC was saying Twitter is bad and BlueSky is good. I wrote the editors that they should be looking at Mastodon/ActivityPub. I made the point that BlueSky may have a larger reach right now than Mastodon but it is still owned by Tech Bros and just earlier in the Twitter arc. Mastodon/ActivityPub will be the protocol of future social media. I advocated they should look at creating a MSNBC.com instance.

One way to deal with accounts like that is to create a list and put that one user in it. Then you can mark the list to not show up in your timeline. If you want to see what the user is up to you can just look at the list.

A Suunto Core. It's a basic ABC (Altitude, Barometer, Compass) watch. I've had it for years. When I am doing steep climbs it's nice to know how much farther to the top.

@npub1c5c…644a I have found that only charging my phone up to 85-90% that the packs last longer. I know that if I leave the phone plugged in overnight the pack is near dead in the morning even when only charging once from like 50%. So I aim to charge just long enough to bring the phone up to a useful level then unplug.
I'm an Android guy and my phone has a 4000 mAh battery. I also carry an InReach Mini.
