I don't have a phone number, use anonymous email that doesn't require one. Don't have apps for a bank, stores and will not even give my ID to a gas station to buy cigarettes (they are scanning IDs into a corporate database here).
I see people using the phone and/number for credit cards, public transportation and everything you can imagine.
I keep begging people to not do it. They are just asking to have their identity stolen.

Yes the corporate papers are crap but Street Roots is not owned or in anyway controlled by a corporation.

Back in the day, drugs were real and life savings. Now, its all about the money so they don't make real drugs anymore.
As long as they haven't corrupted the old drugs, I believe they are truly helpful.

Homeless for 12+ years.
They made/make us into criminals by violating the US Constitution and SO FEW stand up and fight back.

One of the things they do is "vendor profiles". Its a "street paper" called Street Roots, sold by homeless people. I'm waiting for them to say Musk and Zuckerberg now owns the paper after they announced that...
Most of us try to stay low profile but I see it as very bad for homeless people.

It just always amazes me how people are so comfortable with using the other crap. I've seen protests planned on those unnamed corporate controlled services and cops show up even before the protesters and declare it illegal. Yet, I can't get it in the thick skulled friends just how stupid they are so, they keep using that shit.
A local newspaper for example, just started using Threads and a couple other corporate platforms 😡 and I feel vulnerable now because I work with them.

I use an Android app called c0nnect and I run an XMPP server. I've tried to read messages from the admin side. Even though I have the OMEMO key for my devices, I still can't see the messages.
Currently, I have 3 accounts on 3 different servers. All 3 talk to each other. 2 are on servers I signed up with. They both have options to *not* give an email. Neither one asked for a phone.
In today's corporate controlled world, I love old school systems. Signal is connected to a phone number and email and is ran by a corporation.
XMPP is most like Mastodon in that no one system is controlled by one organization. The service I'm using now for Mastodon was compromised recently but that was an admin mistake.
I was into this stuff before the internet and love old school thinking like these 2 systems.
