I have been working on my #diet this year; going more whole food, plant-based (not 100% #vegan but close) and watching my portions. Today I'm adding in apple cider #vinegar to my daily routine hoping it takes me to the next level (whatever that is). This is all part of my plan (if one can call it that) of fixing my #gutbiome, losing weight, and aiming for some future endurance activities (long bike rides, mountain climbing, etc.).

It's amazing to my how much my taste buds have changed. Over the last several years I've been eating more and more #vegan meals. I used to dislike most #vegetables. I had become somewhat of a gourmet home #cook and I got very good at cooking meat, using cheeses, heavy cream, salt, etc. But now I look at vegan recipes and the food looks so delicious. It's hard to imagine never eating meat or animal products again, and maybe someday I'll make the switch completely, but I really love vegan dishes.

So… I cut a hole in the side of the house and installed a window. Now my home office can have a cross-breeze and the room has tons more light. Next steps: finish the wall, fix the pocket door, drywall and paint.

When I was a kid I listened incessantly to the albums of P.D.Q. Bach. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._D._Q._Bach#) I owned the ones below on vinyl and nearly wore them out. And I even had a copy of the book, "The Definitive Biography of P. D. Q. Bach."
I found it all so very funny. Perhaps I was an odd kid, but these albums were a kind of gateway for me into the world of classical music.

I found this an informative and fascinating read.
I have not been a member of any #political party for more than 20 yrs. I find value in being, in fact, independent. But I've been considering #DSA for some time (and other parties of the #Left). Naturally, this article give me great pause. Assuming the facts presented are true (I have not done my homework), I wonder what it all means for the future of the DSA and its membership.

And, though I do want to be careful with comparisons, I believe we can learn a lot from history, such as: If we want to understand Germany in the 1930s we need to understand Germany in the 1920s. I finally got around to watching Denis Villeneuve's 2016 film, ARRIVAL. The screenplay is based on a short story by Ted Chiang, and it feels a lot like an Arthur C. Clarke kind of story. In other words, there's something of the grand yet intimate classic science fiction stories of the golden age of scifi. A true "first contact" story with deep meaning, mystery, and socio-political questions. I feel it's a rather remarkable and excellent film.

This is a picture of Rovinj, Croatia. To me, this place looks amazing and I can imagine myself living here, especially if I also had a sailboat moored in the harbor.

In 1992 I created a short, abstract, experimental film. The other day I rediscovered it, finally added the titles to it, and uploaded it. Certainly, it's not for everybody, but it's the kind of filmmaking that I once dreamed about, that is, using film the way an abstract painter uses paints or some poets use words. At the time I was very inspired by the films of Stan Brakhage, Maya Deren, and others.

I found an old and very faded color slide of my #father and I hiking in the #Oregon #Cascades sometime in the early to mid 1970s. I tried to take a picture of the slide with my phone. It's the best I could do. This picture would have been from a #backpacking trip either in the Three Sisters Wilderness or the Mount Jefferson Wilderness.

The average salary for a Fortune 500 company CEO in terms of hourly #wages comes to $7,644/hr. That adds up to $15,900,000.00 per year.
Everyone one of these CEOs will argue raising the hourly federal minimum #wage from $7.25 to $17.00 will hurt business. Because that's what capitalists do.
I'm more concerned for the small, local businesses (food trucks, coffee shops, etc.) but I believe they'll survive too. They might get more business too with more $$ circulating.

I still sometimes blog and I only follow family on Instagram. We all have different likes and needs & they change over time. I love Mastodon today & I'm not looking to move, but if something better comes along or my needs change then I might jump. It's really not that big of a deal if someone doesn't like it here.

There are some who say boosting your own posts is bad form. I disagree. There's no algorithm on Mastodon that drives the viewing of posts, so when you post, others will see it & some others will not. You now become your own "algorithm." You can boost and even boost again and again if you believe what you have posted is worth others seeing and, of course, some folks are on in the morning and others in the evening, etc. The "don't boost your own posts rule" sounds like something from another site.

Corporate greed is incessant. Meta has zero interest in ActivityPub except how it might help drive up their stock price.
My gut says to the degree that the nature of ActivityPub will not allow Meta (and other rich capitalist companies) to do what they want, they will then try to control it and change its very nature at some point and in some way we likely, today, think cannot be done and therefore will only learn about when it's too late.

If you enjoy someone's post on #[0] go ahead and click the star. If someone tells you that's meaningless because there's no #[1], ignore them. Sure, boost the post too if you want others to also see the post, but don't think telling someone you like what they posted is somehow unimportant. In real life I don't tell someone, "good job," or "well said," or "I love that," for the sake of some algorithm, I do it because I'm human and they are too. It's fundamental to being truly social.
