I’ve been thinking back to the days when, as a consultant or as an activist, I was privy to things before they were announced. It never occurred to me to run off down the bookies or do whatever else might have enriched me with insider knowledge. And, for the people calling such a thing “a flutter”, it’s not a flutter. It’s cheating and planning to defraud the bookies. It’s grubby and even if you didn’t know it was illegal you’d know instinctively it was immoral.

TOMORROW: It’s twenty years since Parliament overwhelmingly passed the Gender Recognition Act. That means it’s been law for longer than many young trans people have been alive. This is the foreword to Volume 2 of my book series about achieving that landmark, Pressing Matters.
NB. The reason Commons passage was the definitive vote stage was because the Bill had started life by being debated and voted by the Lords and then moving to the Commons.

@npub1r7e…mre3 This doesn’t feel like it adds up. It’s one thing to say that a seat pushed you into the controls (presumably initiating an immediate dive) but that doesn’t accord with the previous report of all the screens going blank and the controls unresponsive (although if one pilot is crushed into their yoke then the computers would average out an opposite input from the other pilot attempting to pull the stick back.

I’m intrigued that Gove needed to explain today that his extremism diktat doesn’t apply to gender critical groups (many of whose members signed a declaration which amounts to a call for the elimination of people like me). What that tells us is that GC beliefs are feared to be so close to being caught by the definition of extremist that it has to be spelled out that they’re officially not thought to be. It’s like being rude, not racist apparently. Eliminating trans people is just rude I guess.

Just spotted that Queer Lit, Manchester’s lovely Indy bookshop has moved into exciting new premises with 50% more shelf space at 27 Great Ancoats Street (next to the old Express building). This is more than ‘just’ a bookshop now. It’s a bar/coffee shop, community culture hub, and safe place that will soon be bustling with book readings and other meeting events.
