@npub106n…vfwa I can sure agree with US staying out of this. US meddling is turning it from a fight between Israel and Gaza to WW3. The neocons planned this in 1998 - and provoking a "circle of fire" of angry Muslim nations around Israel to justify a war against Iran was the last step. They don't seem to realize that the US is bankrupt, there are no volunteers, and no weapons. They'll have to go full totalitarian like Ukraine and start rounding up people on the streets to go get blown up by IEDs in the Middle East.

@npub106n…vfwa It's not as simple as "Israel bad". The US is arming and funding both sides. The US promoted and armed Hamas to get rid of Yassir Arafat. Now they have provided Hamas with $6 billion through Iran and weapons through Ukraine and Afghanistan. They have directly funded and armed Israel. They are using Hamas (no way the initial attack was simply Israeli incompetence) to create a casus belli to start a new war. A better summary is "US Deep State bad". Israel is just as much a victim. I do not know how much the current govt there is complicit.
The entire govt media in the US ("MSM") is using the mantra "This is Israel's Pearl Harbor or 9/11". This has a double meaning, as both those attacks were deliberated allowed by Washington to motivate the American populace to enter WW2 and the Bush Wars in the Middle East respectively.

A number of your posts are misleading. E.g. Israel can't "cut off water" because Gaza never allowed Israel to supply water. (Maybe with good reason, if it can be cut off.) When Israel left Gaza for a go at the "two state solution", they left beautiful gardens, greenhouses, stocked larders, and other gifts. The first act of Hamas was to smash and burn it all. Again - maybe with good reason. Sexual predators seduce their victims by means of gifts. (When will the smaller nations learn not to accept "gifts" from the US govt/NGOs?) But the Gaza side is not squalid because of Israel.

This was US transportation stats - averaging city and country.
The problem with country roads, is they are narrow and twisty with no shoulder or bike path/lane - and are actually quite dangerous when you encounter a car, even if there are fewer cars.
Cities and suburbs have extensive bicycle infrastructure, with a network of "no motorized vehicles" paths and lanes. Plus "secret" routes where no car could ever go that are fun to discover.

I did this for transportation - to try and convince my wife that driving a car was not, in fact, safer than biking. I don't remember the absolute numbers, but biking and walking were the lowest risk of death or serious injury per mile traveled for personal transportation, and nearly the same (the Williamsburg colonists were onto some with their walking helmets).
Driving a car is three times more dangerous than walking/biking per mile.
Riding a motorcycle is 5 times more dangerous than driving a car (which is maybe where her false intuition comes from). In fact, motorcycles are equivalent risk to active duty in the Iraq war (as an American - we prefer to kill people from other nations to feed the MIC).
Buses and trains were 5 times safer than cars - i.e. safer than walking/biking. I take my bike on both quite a bit for longer distances.
Airplane travel was the safest of all per mile (this would be 2005, when I sold my car and got a bicyle). I wonder about it now that many pilots are dropping dead from the mandated Pfizer shots and airlines are considering relaxing copilot requirements.

There is also an altruistic aspect to insurance. Your premiums are funding the defense of other victims. In a well run insurance company, premiums pretty much match expenses, and profits come from investing the reserves.

That's to influence just one critter's vote. Figure on spending that on hundreds of critters.
But Federal drug prohibition is unconstitutional (without a new prohibition amendment) - and states are successfully nullifying the federal statues. Hopefully, some states will continue to prohibit it. It was a shame when the last dry state legalized alcohol - and addicts no longer had a legally enforced refuge (other than holing up in a recovery center).

The requirement for a good theory, "conspiracy" or otherwise, is that it can be falsified. Without that, the theory is "not even false" (a justified criticism of String Theory). Any theory can have a ton of facts which seem to confirm it. Conspiracy theorists don't just imagine them.
E.g. a current "conspiracy" theory is that the Covid virus was not in fact novel, but just the annual flu plus a psy-op. Yes there are ton of coincidences which seem to support it (e.g. virtually no flu cases), but these can have alternate explanations. But this is a decent theory because it can be falsified by e.g. exhibiting the genome compared to the flu.

Tobacco (or nicotine) serves a purpose - it promotes calm focus. Hence the heavy use by philosophers and truck drivers. Nicotine actually protects the brain. Unfortunately, it does so at the expense of heart and arteries. (With or without smoke to damage lungs.)
There is a tiny amount of nicotine in green tea (~12 micrograms / cup). I find this sufficient for my purposes, and avoids the risks associated with larger doses.
On a similar note, coca tea is not addictive, quite healthful, actually essential to high altitude living, and can be brought into the US in "personal quantities" (IANAL). It is when you refine the traces of cocaine from the coca leaves into a deadly white powder that it becomes a problem. (Question: what happens to the cocaine coca-cola company removes from the coca leaves it decocainates?)

I don't think there has ever been any collateral damage from people Putin did take out. Putin almost certainly didn't do it.
There were many who wanted Prigozhin dead - even Hillary vowed to suicide him (after he interfered with her destruction in Africa). It didn't look like a Hillary job either.
And accident is not entirely ruled out - the security people were transporting high explosives, and may have screwed up storing them. There was a similar flight in the US in 2017 where improperly stored explosives went off causing an almost identical plunge to the earth.

Also, C-Python has a very space efficient GC by using reference counting in addition to normal GC. The vast majority of objects are collected when their refcnt goes to 0. The GC is needed for the occasional cycles. The refcnt overhead is trivial compared to the interpreter overhead.

In 35 years of using GC in various forms, the only real tradeoff I've ever encountered is increased memory use. Typically, it is double, but if you reuse objects (add to collect to "free"), that can be reduced (at the expense of now introducing possible "reuse while still in use" bugs).

Just changed a variable to a constant (already known by the app) in an bunch of sql queries to speed up by 10000. This reduces the runtime from 4.5 yrs to 3 hrs - much more reasonable.

But "individualism" actually has a different nuance of meaning in the context of psychoanalysis and personality theory. Traditional Freudian theory held that personality development was primarily inherent to the individual, and that social factors were secondary. Among critics of this view (called Individualism) in the mid 20th century were the neo-Freudians such as Eric Fromm and Harry Stack Sullivan, who held that social, cultural and interpersonal influences - parents, religion, local culture, etc were far more important factors (both positive and negative) in the development of a mature, non-neurotic, fully realised individual. Chisholm was definitely of that latter view.

You can call C code from Java with JNI (Java Native Interface) - register C functions that get run for class methods. It's no more difficult than the C-API for C-Python. https://www.baeldung.com/jni

Jython leverages multiple cpus, and I believe PyPy (compiled python - the compiler being itself written in compiled python) does as well. C-Python is not the only implementation.
I find Jython in particular very handy for interacting with large mostly Java applications such as Adempiere (or Idempiere).

C-Python can link with and interact with multi-threaded C code no problem. See https://github.com/sdgathman/pymilter/blob/master/miltermodule.c for an example of the C code end (key object is PyThreadState).
C-Python code itself does not multi-thread, except through multi-processing. (Jython is a Java python implementation that does multi-thread.)
HOWEVER, what is ultimately more efficient than multi-threading for pure python or most other interpreted code is co-routines. Remember those from Knuth's "Fundamental Algorithms"? Python has built-in support for very clean and efficient co-routines - key syntax is the "yield" statement. They work very well ad-hoc, and there are frameworks like the "twisted" library that provide consistent interaction between many parts.
The key limitation of co-routines is that other "threads" do not have a chance to run until the current code hits a "yield". This also means you don't need to bother with locks and stuff like with true multi-tasking, hence the efficiency for an interpreted language.
Another name for this is "cooperative multi-threading". It is harder to do in a language like C with linear stacks. Python stack frames are linked lists - and the resulting conceptual tangle of stack frames when hundreds of complex co-routine tasks cooperate gave rise to the name of the "twisted" library.

Initialized evangelized by Western missionaries, many African countries have deep Christian values. Our church had partnerships, where the Western church would provide expensive things like group plane travel and seminary degrees, and the Africans would come to the US at Western expense and hold evangelistic meetings - with huge crowds due to the novel accent and colorful clothing.
