The absolute darkest UI pattern that is used everywhere is the no-reply email address blackhole that every service uses. I'm struggling to think of anything more anti-user than "here's some information - now talk to the hand."
Make it easy for people to talk to a real human. If that's not cost-effective for you, you're prioritizing the wrong things in your service.

Also brackets on the line *after* the name of the function or class looks dumb. It's just out there dangling for no good reason. It makes the function declaration look like an annotation around anonymous code. I hate it.

As an ooooooold PHP user (since v3!) the switch in PSR-1 to requiring camelCase for everything is incredibly jarring. Every classic native function uses snake_case, so the idea that class methods shouldn't do that is just... weird. (I personally find camelCase to be harder to read too.)

I tried installing a couple of "lightweight" PHP frameworks and database wrappers and... they're friggin' huge. Thousands of files. Looks like the library bloat of JavaScript has come to PHP while I was away.
So the question is, do I resurrect my 2000s era PHP micro-framework for this one-shot project? It'll take some love to get it updated to PHP 8.

Relatedly, having deployed a ton of Wordpress sites over the years, it always feels like the *number* of files is the thing that makes uploading slow, not the *size* of the files. Or maybe it’s the process of getting the state of each directory?
I’ll need to do some research, but I wonder if concatenating entire libraries into a single file is faster? (Obviously rewriting any include statements.) Certainly it’s easier.

I've been struggling to make progress on a personal coding project I've had in the back of my mind for over a year. Unfortunately there are just too many hobbies competing for my attention these days.
Though now I'm thinking about starting it from scratch and using PHP, without composer, for the sheer convenience of being able to drag-and-drop the whole app and use it on cheap hosting. 🤔 Standing up a web app should be as easy as running Wordpress. (But hopefully with fewer vulnerabilities.)

Everyone is talking about fast fashion, but no one is talking about the plague of fast furniture. It’s impossible to find true durable pieces that can last for generations anymore, even the so-called “Amish made” pieces are typically cheap stuff being bulk produced in one of a dozen massive factories.
I can’t even find a solid wood panel bed at any of the vintage or resale shops anymore. Particleboard is the only choice we’re being given. It’s tragic.

On April 9, 1865, the Confederate army surrendered to the Union.
During their retreat, the Confederates burned down their own capital, the city of Richmond, VA - my current home. They burned 90% of the business district, all the warehouses and goods. The citizens were left destitute and homeless.
I need you to remember this when you're fighting white supremacy: these people will turn on everyone else to save themselves. They're cowards who believe in nothing but their own self interests.
