As the baby boom generation ages, I think it says nothing good about us that we’ve focused all of our efforts as a society on ever-changing multifunctional devices that impose a massive time tax just to keep up with. “Do one thing, do it well” and do it _consistently_ is a hugely underrated approach.

It was a twenty page litany of anguish and sorrow, and it ended (IIRC) with the statement “I will not know if this latest initiative will actually ever ship, because I have taken a job at Slack.”

They’re absolutely a talented writer; I’d love to see what they could do in the hands of a professional editor. That sounds like a caveat and I guess it is, but I enjoyed reading it and have recommended it to multiple people.

I can’t emphasize enough that Eliezer Yudkowsky has no qualifications _at all_ to talk about AI.
It's not just that he has no CS degree (CS is still an autodidact-friendly field and I think that's a good thing) it's that he has no _informal_ qualifications either. He's written a lot of Harry Potter fanfic and a handful of python scripts.
Asking him for predictions about the future of AI is like asking someone who's seen a Godzilla movie for their opinion about T Rex's reproductive cycle.
