Anyone with informed thoughts on Visible Wireless?
Uses Verizon’s network (my current carrier) and the unlimited plan looks good to me. (I'm on an iPhone.)
Downsides I know of:
* Streaming is capped at 480p, including via hotspot. (I currently get 720p.) Does that include zoom, jitsi, etc?
* Data gets lower priority than for Verizon postpaid accounts. But as I read it, only after 50 GB/month? If that's true, definitely not a problem for me.
Anything else one might want to be aware of?

For those who knew him: @npub1sqj…99f2 passed away last night.
For those who didn’t know: he was at @npub156u…393t for approaching two decades, starting on the Support team in 2003, later also becoming the longtime PM for OmniGraffle, and a member of the UX team. He designed and created loads of our icons, including the app icons still on our apps today. (I don't know if he had a favorite, but I do know a particular aspect of the OmniWeb icon that he was rather proud of.)

@npub1fzp…dkks And it's very frustrating to me that I haven't found a replacement that works nearly as well for me as Aperture — I'm definitely not sticking with it as a cost-saving measure. :) I am also lucky that I’m still happy with my EOS 6D, and haven't had any real desire to upgrade to a camera with a RAW format that Aperture can't handle.

@npub1fzp…dkks @npub172q…lhd7 I'm sure that's true of many, but it's far from an absolute. I for one am quite willing (often happy) to pay for maintenance and improvements.
But I don’t want my software to stop working if the vendor goes bust or stops selling the software. Secondarily, the creator is not necessarily improving the product or even doing much maintenance. (Which can be fine: not everything needs to be continually changed.)
Ideal for me: when subscription ends, I can keep using last version.

@npub1fzp…dkks That's disappointing to me, though personally the last time I explored Capture One it didn't match what I was looking for very well.
I have avoided exploring Lightroom because I am highly reluctant to invest my work (metadata, editing, etc) to an app which might disappear or take away something important to me, and then (or a bit later) the version I want stops working. (I literally still rely on Aperture, which is viable since this is just personal photos w/o a ton of editing.)

Anyone else’s Mac occasionally deciding that it needs to change its name because there's another machine on the network using that name?
It’s something that happened to me occasionally a long time ago, but now it's happened again a couple of times pretty recently. (Since upgrading to Sonoma.) I'm just sitting here, been working on this machine all day, no other machine with this (very specific) name on the network unless a neighbor is pranking me. (My neighbors don't have my wifi password.)

Did indeed manage to get my Novavax vaccination today (yay!), but the pharmacist was confused about some of the details about Novavax and I ended up having to find the correct info on the CDC web site. So if anyone else is getting bad info…
According to the CDC, *for people 12 yo and older*: if this is your first ever COVID vaccination, Novavax requires two doses 8 weeks apart; but if you've had *any* previous covid vaccination, only one dose.

@npub1fq5…p8du Yeah, that's the one I watched. (That explosion at 1:21 looks… like a real dangerous stunt. Which would match with the history of the car chase in The French Connection, from what I read.) I understand that the movie starts with different scenes with the different men but that doesn't come across in the trailer, so the first scene makes it feel like spy movie. To me at least. (Maybe it is more of a spy movie than what I expect from the descriptions?)

@npub1fq5…p8du After your post I looked up some about Sorcerer, and wow do I feel the title and poster are misleading. I personally would have had zero interest in it based on those. Even the trailer feels misleading, at least the first half of it, though not in the same way, and perhaps I'm wrong. (It *sounds* interesting, so I've added it to my queue.)

@npub12ty…vnqc I prefer the first one's corona as its irregularities give it a softer, more light-like feel IMO. But I would suggest filling the P, either like the way the second alternative does, or with some solid color other than black. The black fill matching the black background suggests that the P is a cutout, in which case we should see the light below; or a different solid color so it no longer looks like a cutout. (But also it feels like a lot of black for an app which is about light.)

@npub12ty…vnqc For iOS: I’d like to be able to upload multiple photos at once, please.
Also, the photo picker isn’t showing my shared albums. (I’m usually organizing photos on one device and adding some of them to a shared album before later posting them from a different device. So I have to go into the Photos app and download the desired photos into my device library before I can access them in Pixelfed.)

@npub12ty…vnqc I would lobby for this to be a view option so the user can choose whether they prefer the square density and balance, or to see the photo as the poster intended. (And I'd lobby for the default to be to follow the poster's intent.)
I usually crop my photos to square before posting, as I've felt that tends to match this context better. But sometimes I've felt it's important for a photo to be a different form; having the app make its own decision means I might as well not post it.

@npub12ty…vnqc @npub120z…33r2 IMO many new users won’t read all that text and are likely to think “communities” is a feature, rather than alternate servers. I suggest adjusting the title for that button to make it feel more like an alternative: “join a different community” or “explore my options” or something.
