Also, the light in China is always a nice warm, golden color (probably because of atmospheric pollution pushing wavelengths down) and everything kind of subtly "glows" in this really beautiful way (also probably due to ambient air pollution causing light to diffuse off suspended particulates). The light in the US is much more "harsh" and definitely more "blue" or "white" in temperature.

So, I made a post yesterday about how trash FunkWhale has gotten insofar as the maintainers deciding to go full schizo-pill 白左 leftist and poison their own project in furtherance of their ideological dogmatism. That's neither here nor there---what I really need are good suggestions of software or implementations for being able to have audio uploaded to a program which can facilitate being embedded into a web-page or streamed to a device. FunkWhale solved/solves both of these issues, from my understand: you can embed a song into a web-page to have it played on that page from FunkWhale, and, of course, users can stream that song on their own FunkWhale app or site through content federation. Does anyone know of any alternatives that function similarly or have this type of functionality?

I've had the complete opposite experience regarding performance from what you're saying. And I use an Intel machine. Windows runs hot and my fans stay on when using it. Linux runs cool and I get markedly improved battery life out of it.

And, it's very difficult to empirically study these things repeatably or reliably. Whereas, we can pretty objectively and repeatedly study women's opinions and perceptions of men based on attractiveness. So, when you say, "women hate ugly men", we have many repeated studies that basically demonstrate that the vast majority of women are exclusively or predominantly physically attracted to a tiny, tiny minority of men.

You're only going to get multiple tower controllers with large airports like ATL or SFO or BOS or JFK or MIA, etc. where they're running multiple parallel operations at a time. At DCA that night they were running 1 departure and 1 arrival operation to a single or intersecting runway (which effectively means the same thing as running 1 runway). One controller for that operation is totally normal, has been ever since I've ever been flying.

I much prefer local, traditional installations vs. more abstract, containerized options like Docker or Flatpak. However, from experience running NextCloud as a local install on its own VM, goddamn that software is just a convoluted mess. And, it's a lot of packages and garbage that I don't want littering my entire system. Having all those moving parts locked inside a virtual appliance is the way to go with this one……

Commercial software can be beneficial and good, but, ultimately, market entities are incentivized to mistreat the customer/user to the greatest extent allowable, be this due to obstacles like government regulations or market competition. The latter begins to collapse as an obstacle when competition is reduced, such as with the current de facto duopoly on the mobile smartphone market. The only place I can think of that is different is China, where Google services are prohibited and ergo there exists this strange landscape of widespread third-party app stores with phones running de-Googled flavors of Android. This is changing, slowly, though, as the phone manufacturers have gotten into the software market and are starting to "Applefy" themselves, so to speak. Huawei being a great example.

XMPP, I feel, is a fantastic replacement for IRC while still providing a similar level of performance and lightweightness. Matrix, in my experience, is really sluggish and bloated as an end-user + I could never really properly set it up or administrate it.

@nprofile…3hg5 It's a lot better than Matrix, in my opinion. That's all I know. Otherwise, I use Telegram and WeChat, but neither of those are free nor open source nor genuinely private/encrypted.
