does anyone actually know what he is thinking? IMO he is trying to avoid politics becoming simply about the EU again when there are serious structural issues to be sorted within the UK. #brexit is a cause celebre for a lot of people in the UK, but direct rapprochement with the EU will just kick off another media culture war and that is all we will be talking about for 5 years.
plus people in the EU have simply moved on. it is not a topic, unlike here where my feed is full of posts like yours wanting a much closer relationship or "rejoin". not criticising the thought, or the motivation, but the EU and europeans really don't care that much.
i'd prefer that labour get on with fixing the UK first. my cause celebre would be "get the 30% of the UK population living in poverty in the UK actually out of poverty."

the thing, though, that makes me howl in exasperated laughter is Johnson's assertion that he wasn't really negotiating the deal; that would be done later. this way he could get it over and done quickly and get it in the media.
then when told it was binding, huffed and puffed and said nothing cannot be changed. he'd negotiated in bad faith with the EU like he did with everyone. and even if he didn't he could routinely and unilaterally break it and force the EU to accept it.
and so here we are...

clogging up the media. clogging up politicians' time. clogging up my brain.
getting out was easy, especially with the "burning bridges" approach that was taken. any attempts to move it back together is going to take a long time. as much as anything to rebuild trust in the EU countries.
the irony of the "world beating trade deals" that were negotiated with Oz and NZ still makes me smile.

he's not a stupid person; he will know all of this, but right now the last thing he or the UK needs is a re-run of #brexit . "reform", in particular, would love for that to happen. it'd also jam up the government for at least a year. things that we can do with rapprochement will mainly pass under that bridge.

here in the UK, especially in the so-called South-East, the price of housing is going up so quickly that new and existing stock is being bought up by investors and simply left empty. meanwhile, it is nearly impossible to afford a house.

right now i'd not be particularly surprised if the tories come out supporting independence. they'll want to keep all of the oil, etc. of course, but leaving that aside... there's a lot of labour MP's in scotland. be permanently rid of those? given the caning they got in the last election, permanently eliminating those seats, even of they're SNP filled, will utterly change the dynamic of government of the UK*.
* yes, i know... but after #brexit they were all waffling on about the Empire... oh, sorry... the Commonwealth. no, that is the Empire isn't it. scotland leaving the UK won't make a difference to those knobs.

i bought my first house in Oz by saving up for a year and doing without some discretionary spend. current place, i cannot imagine a person under 40 being able to raise the deposit, especially if they're planning to have kids.

plus that is one of the "iconic images" of nuclear power. pity all of the "emissions" coming out of them is water vapour, not pollution, and otherwise the reactor produces virtually zero emissions.
and of course fossil fuels don't involve nuclear waste. the best part of coal and gas plants is that they can store their waste in the atmosphere where it can do no damage.

indeed! melbun proves that a good tram system really works and is incredibly popular with commuters. fascinating to see how central melbourne roads have changed over the years, esp. in the city centre, to prioritise trams and pedestrians. not to mention that it is now free to use the trams in and near to the city centre.
so, yes! bring the bloody things back! build it and they will come*!
* drivers will bemoan it, but that is only one of the benefits of bringing back trams!
