Anyone who doesn't understand AI, but sees it as a magic box believes that magic box can also handle jobs that they also don't understand.
Right now, there are business folks who know there are millions or billions to be made creating and promoting LLM-based tools that claim to eliminate the need for people in the loop.
While it may be impossible to push back 100% on use of AI tools, everyone should die on the hill that they should augment, not supplant people, and add value beyond the "We have AI" slapped on the box.
Anyone who believes otherwise will eventually find their own role replaced by a poor AI substitute.

All these business reports are documenting “at least” a “20% increase in productivity” with GenAI and clearly stating that there will be winners and losers in the next few years, and all of the winners will have adopted GenAI.
They don’t necessarily know how it works nor do they care, but to hear from well-regarded business studies they they will fall behind and lose if they don’t adopt it is enough to get them to issue mandates, which is problematic in many levels. But it’s one reason nVidia is where they are. The hype machine is real.

Got taxes done last night.
In spite of some of my income not being reported to the IRS, and the DOGEing of IRS jobs begging for underpaying/cheating on taxes this year, I remained honest and reported everything. Yes, even that stupid eBay sales reporting that TurboTax choked on.
I wonder how many multi millionaires are going to get away with paying hundreds of thousands less in taxes and what the net impact will be on “greater good” programs. Never mind the billionaires - they basically pay no taxes since they hide their income by getting paid in stock that they borrow money against.
The whole idiot idea of an “External Revenue Service” to collect tariffs is so idiotic that it can only have been made to fool the blind MAGAts.

@nprofile…kgju I have nasal congestion as well. The pressure actually seems to help, at least in my situation. I'm also a side sleeper.
I don't like the "pillows" specifically, but I like the ones that fit without them.

@nprofile…kgju I prefer the nasal masks. Much better at leak prevention and some connect at the top, allowing better range of motion.
I was a mouth breather, but ended up easily adjusting to the nasal only, especially since I don't need to deal with the hose in my face and feeling like a Top Gun: Maverick extra.

Folks who know me know I rabbit hole and get passionate about things that I deal with in my daily life. Especially if they're technical.
On the line of my recent CPAP/BiPAP stuff, I am super, super fucking annoyed at how these companies that supposedly are in it to help out with our health are ultimately more interested in pushing machines and CPAP/BiPAP supplies.
To bolster my point, I've reviewed the settings of CPAPs from 3 folks who've asked for my help. ALL THREE of them were set wrong vs the data the machines generated. One was set to a range of 5-20 𝑐𝑚𝐻2𝑂. Guess what? The machine's fucking range is 5-20. They did no looking at the data whatsoever, and didn't look at mask leakage rates either. Therapy was not suitable as a result.
They didn't even set the fucking time zone. Just like they didn't on mine. But sure enough, Cellular was enabled, and they could've adjusted things remotely, but did they? No.
They are more interested in selling supplies and machines.
Start with a CPAP. Be "compliant" for 90 days. If you're uncomfortable the whole time, suck it. The sleep clinic isn't likely going to adjust anything. No one will really look at your data until you visit a pulmonologist, and even then, they may only look at a few lines of data in aggregate over 3 months (mine said much longer) before making changes to a machine/prescription.
What's that mean? Oh, you spend over a grand plus on a machine, then they get you to spend $1500-$3k on another machine that might actually help you more, but they'll be damned to even set that up correctly.
My pulmonologist wrote my new prescription for the machine I hacked my CPAP into (A Resmed AirCurve ASV) with my exact settings. They said they couldn't have done it better than me, and would hire me as a consultant if I wanted a part time gig.
I don't.
I'm enjoying helping folks out who have their CPAPs and their therapy as a black box of magic so that only suppliers have the keys to their data. Not everyone is savvy enough to hack their units or analyze their data. To those who are - You're ahead of the game.
For those who aren't, ie the majority - They're getting fucked.
I enjoy helping folks get a better night's sleep. Especially if it sticks it to these companies unfairly making money on the suffering of patients who are ostensibly getting treated by these bloodsuckers.
And I'm going to keep doing it.

In case you've been putting off tech purchases, now may be the time to move. Laptops, tablets, and desktop PC components could skyrocket 30-50% if Trump actually implements his planned tariffs. While a 10% overall tariff that he's planning would increase the cost of living for the average family by ~$1700, for those of us who use/need tech for a living or for fun...maybe now is when you get that phone upgrade, or that laptop. Maybe now is a good time to replace your CPU/mobo/RAM.
Because in 6 months, tech is going to be hit incredibly hard with price increases if these isolationist/protectionist policies go into place.

Had 2 onboardings today. From one of the new hires, "Maybe here is where I learn to relax and do the job the way it's supposed to be done." - Having someone have that as their sentiment on the first day after their welcome call, where I took time to help them set up their Mac to work with their PC keyboard, along with a few tricks, and answering all of their questions, telling them they matter, regardless of what their title or mine is...really means a ton. I think this new hire's going to do some great work, just because they know someone is looking out for them.

I’ve been and why I don’t use a “cloud host” or CDN. Folks. Far away as England and Oz haven’t complained about my speeds accessibility.

I've just enabled hcaptcha for new accounts in addition to requiring admin review for all accounts on Tiggi.es running 4.2.7.
Admins:
NOTE: This is not advocating for using hcaptcha. Please research it as some disabled users may find it difficult or impossible to use. Use your judgment.
It's pretty easy to do. Sign up via https://www.hcaptcha.com/ - It's free for smaller sites. Don't use the initial Site Key they provide. Do generate a Secret Key AND KEEP IT SECURE. If you don't save it here, you'll have to regenerate it later, as the site won't show you the whole key again.
Next, verify your email address once they email you, sign in, and create a new site for the domain via the Sites Menu and "Add Sites" Button - You will be provided a Site Key.
Now to configure Mastodon, as user mastodon, edit live/.env.production and add the following lines to the end:
HCAPTCHA_SITE_KEY=SITE KEY HERE
HCAPTCHA_SECRET_KEY=SECRET KEY HERE
No quotes or anything are needed.
Restart mastodon-web, then go to Administration->Server Settings->Registrations and you'll see a new checkbox as shown below.
This has the chance at helping cut down on bot registrations. The Mastodon docs aren't complete here, and I did some hunting to figure this out. Thought I'd share. :)
Just be aware as the screen shot notes that this may make registration more difficult for some disabled folks.

Let me make this abundantly clear. After my last con, where I was introduced to a famous pedophile, endured the stench of the gaming area, was harassed by some loon in a yellow fox fursuit while chatting with a friend, had my badge "borrowed" by a fur who I let share my room with me while I was busy dropping off other furs (since I had a car) back home who weren't enjoying themselves, having to deal with asshats breaking hotel property in front of me and tee-heeing about it, had a table I was relaxing at commandeered by some emo fetuses who wanted to use my table to play Tragic: The Marketing in spite of there being several other tables open, and having 3 folks who claimed to want to meet me be "too busy" at the last minute...
Fuck furry conventions. You might enjoy them...that's great. "But Burr, your experience isn't everyone's." No, you're right. But it's mine. "Give it another shot, you might love it!" No, the last one was garbage enough that I don't feel like wasting more time and money on it. "You may think you're old, but there are lots of older furries who go to these as well!" "Back in the old days" geezers like me would download anything we liked and keep "backup" copies because we knew we were one HDD crash/tableflip away from that data being gone forever.
Over the past 15(?) or so years, I've noticed more of an attitude of, "I don't care, if I lose it, it'll always be on the Internet and I can re-download it." Since YouTube and other video services have started taking content down, and the Internet Archive is on the ropes, younger folks are starting to learn that the Internet isn't forever.
Stupid things you said on social media as a teen, maybe. But a lot of media out there isn't.
My attitude never changed on this, which is why I RAID-6 and LTO-6 all of the data I feel is critical, and why Tiggi.es is in a replica cluster, copied to a RAID-6 volume daily, and backed up to LTO-6 every 3 days.
I'm paranoid about data loss and data availability in ways that many who haven't spent the better part of their career working in storage/Internet aren't. Data loss is almost inevitable. Almost. But data that isn't under your control can vanish without notice.

I tried to sell an iPad Pro on Facebook Marketplace. Had a guy who wrote in broken English ask me for an address.
I gave him the address of the neighborhood amenity center.
He told me he was on his way but had $20 less since I was far from him.
I told him $20 less wouldn’t get him the iPad.
So 20 mins later, he said he was halfway here and would give me $10 less.
I told him no dice.
He replied that he would show up with $10 less than my asking price and because he drove so long, he would expect to have a deal.
I told him the address I gave him was an amenity center. And I’ve decided not to show up. So enjoy the drive back.
I had an asshole do similar about 15 years ago with a white macbook I sold. When we arrived, she said she was $20 short. I told her it wasn’t a problem and took a coin to remove the battery (they were removable) and told her I’d keep the battery and charger and sell them separate. All good. Imagine when the $20 miraculously showed up.
