The worst thing about PSO communities it seems (and this is specifically /r/pso, but I'm sure it happens elsewhere) is people ask questions about specific versions, and nobody gives the correct answer.
They'll add random stuff that does not answer the question, give information for another version, or say "just play Ephinea!" (seriously don't do this).
Why are people like this? Is it a Reddit problem? I dunno...

It's true that you won't reach the small instances most likely however, but I suspect people on small instances know how to find things they want.

Can you save a file in a location and then know how to browse to it directly (e.g. the program doesn't do it for you)?
Congratulations, you know how to use a file system. Many people struggle with this now.

Played some #PSO Episode 3 online with a friend earlier (on my own hosted server) -- just using standard decks to test it out -- worked very well and was actually a lot of fun!
Kind of tempted to actually play through the story and build up a deck now so I can play it properly with others... never been into card games but maybe this is one I'll enjoy.

I'm not sure how to describe this, but people seem like they personalise things a lot less in this day and age.
For example back when I was a kid, everyone had custom ringtones, but nobody does now.
Back when I was playing #PSOBB, people would mod the game's aesthetics so much, whether it was using custom skins or even creating them.
Now? Nobody does any of these things, everyone has and uses all the same things, don't customise stuff even if given the option and it's like... what happened!?

I really want to play another MMO, or similar online game (like #PSOBB!), but I'm finding it hard to want to play on an online server where I don't own my character.
I know it's all about the experience but the inevitability of losing my data / characters / progress etc. makes me not want to even bother.
Of course, when players own their own save data, it's another kettle of fish entirely, as I feel like at least 50% of people end up cheating so... win some, you lose some.

Looks like the #FullTextSearch pull request has been merged to become part of #Mastodon in 4.2.0.
Looking at the details:
1. Public posts only
2. Account-level setting, so all public posts show up in search, or none.
2a. You can swap between these two states any time, and it will hide your posts, or re-add them to search.
3. You can choose to have your profile or posts discoverable separately, it doesn't have to be both.
And of course, requires ElasticSearch on the Mastodon instance.

@npub1qg4…augv This kind of depends, I know this is about tech but here's a prime example: The UK made organ donation opt-out, because most people won't make the effort to actively opt-in. Would you disagree that was a bad idea?
Then there's things that people like which depend on consent from many users: Full text search for example. In cases like this, I like opt-either where you must pick your preference.
Most people are not informed about choices (or even look!), what we need is better information.

Your search term needs to be:
from:blogdiva SEARCHTERM
Without the @, it's a standard search prefix that's common in search engines.

The real point though is that if Valve never got involved, we'd still almost have no games to play, and probably using some complicated management program.
So whatever Proton actually is, Valve absolutely deserves a lot of credit for the state of Linux gaming.

@npub1532…5ffy @npub1tvq…l6jk tbh, I did some thinking about this and yeah, Proton itself is "just patches for Wine" (although it's a lot of patches that went upstream to seriously improve compatibility).
However Valve integrated Proton extremely well into Steam, they helped get Vulkan off the ground, they helped the DXVK project, among other things, which got things going.
It would be like saying Tim Berners-Lee didn't do anything for the Web because he didn't make "the Internet"

If governments posted all their news on their own websites, and perhaps their own controlled social media (such as Mastodon), 99% of people would never see the news.
I have no idea how to fix this problem.

This "Musk is just trying to destroy #Twitter!" narrative gets around a lot, but if this was the case, couldn't he just shut it down without the song and dance...?
The only credible argument I can see against this is that by slowly eroding it, people gather somewhere else, as you have a lot of people wanting to stay for various reasons.
But if Twitter disappeared tomorrow, people wouldn't gather somewhere else primarily, it takes a long time for social networks to cement themselves.

@npub1rcf…tu72 Interesting, I found Lutris very easy to use, you just install it as a Flatpak and then add your games and it works - maybe you'll need to change the Wine version but that's about it.
Only got one game on Steam now because I needed multiplayer (Tetris Effect), everything else is all mine.

@npub1rcf…tu72 I still use GOG all the time, because I am here for all the DRM-free goodness.
You can just use Proton with the GOG installers by running it through a launcher such as Heroic or Lutris. Supposedly Heroic works quite well for automatic updates and stuff, but I use Lutris.
I just hate Steam, if it isn't obvious.

@npub1532…5ffy I don't even get what the point is - I don't like Steam either but there's this really cool thing about the work Valve put into Wine itself and the Proton compatibility layer: They're all FOSS and you can use them however you want.
So... what exactly is the issue people have? Corporations can absolutely suck but sometimes they do deserve credit for their contributions.

#Discord is so good that one of our big servers now has a completely unusable channel.
It doesn't load, and nobody can send any messages to it. There's nothing we can do since we don't own the servers.
Unfortunately due to how Discord works, setting up an official space elsewhere hasn't worked out well for us, as people just make their own community Discords and they use that instead...

This isn't specific enough for legal, and Musk could argue that X can block users from the service, and users can use the mute feature to not see objectionable content, which covers the guidelines as they are written.

As much as I love Mastodon and other Fediverse software, it has one fatal flaw: My friends aren't here and also won't use it. Something needs to happen to get them to take it seriously, and I feel it's primarily going to be when they feel X doesn't meet their needs anymore than any improvements Mastodon makes.

Had a job interview today, not sure how to feel about it. It's for where I'm currently at, so I'd guess that gives me an advantage, but just felt like there wasn't much opportunity in the interview to actually sell myself. Everything was very vague.
And then I was asked about driving for a job description that didn't mention any tasks that would require driving.
I don't drive and I probably never will, so that was a great confidence booster.

Somehow I never had to replace an inner tube on my #bike in all the years I've been cycling, but I had one puncture on my e-bike about a year ago, then put off replacing it for ages (yeah I know).
Finally got around to it today with a lot of roadblocks (turns out a full toolkit with wrenches doesn't have the sizes for the bolts), and feels good getting it replaced, e-bike is all up and running again, perfect for those days I don't have the energy to ride my normal bike.

@npub1vkt…7z8m I don't think it's too surprising - even in Japan, Mastodon is more well known than Misskey, and while the platforms can obviously talk to each other, they probably figured it'd be better to pick a platform more people are familiar with.
Further, Misskey is more about "expression" and "fun", Mastodon has more of a "professional" air about it.

Finally got around to doing a full playthrough of #DiscoElysium and I'm impressed that I want to play it again to do the quests I didn't do and obviously be a completely different person. The ending felt somewhat abrupt, but supposedly it's a bit more fleshed out if you do the other side stories?
Also got my coworker to buy it, who I'm sure is also going to love it.

But yes I've had random boosts too and it's kinda weird, probably due to this phenomenon. It being called "favourites" doesn't help since in most places, a favourite is a bookmark, so some probably use boost as their like button.

So they're kinda doubly wrong. Plus the idea people only like stuff for an algorithm is icky too.

In regards to CSS, Firefox 117 and beyond in its dev tools will tell you when certain CSS is not compatible with other browsers (including Safari), but this can only get you so far.
Otherwise you're going to have to spin up a VM, I think. Getting a macOS ISO file from an official source is quite difficult though.

@npub1uuv…c9fe @npub1dc2…r625 This is a feature - technically this was always there, just before it was a small image instead of a large button, they just made it more obvious that it exists now as having unexplained icons for everything is bad UI design.
Technically you could use cosmetic filtering in something like uBlock Origin to get rid of it, however that would remove it from all hashtag timelines.

Some examples are sitting around criticising people for how they post (e.g. about not using CW or hashtags), or telling people their own experiences aren't valid (e.g. when someone talks about racism or sexist and you're like "not real!" or whatever)

Been trying out #Floorp, a #Firefox fork, and it's been a great experience.
I'm quite minimal with how I use my browser, but things like tree-style tabs, multi-row tabs, customisable sidebar links and workspaces are definitely people pleasers for those who like them. They just work.
It reminds me of #Vivaldi, but on a #Gecko base instead of #Chromium, which in my opinion is something we need more of.

Put the following in the top:
widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.size.override
Then change the number from 0 to something higher for the scroll bar width. I recommend trying 20 first and going from there.
