Yes there's all sorts of ways in which this unfolds, healing from brokenness, freedom from addiction, lifting the burden of guilt, receiving hope, joy, peace... seeing the world through new eyes, learning to love others as we love ourselves, doing good works, finding fellowship and community, exploring theology and the mysteries of God, overcoming fear of death... all these follow, but should not be mistaken, by themselves, as a sign that we made peace with God, if we haven't already submitted to His reign in this life.

It's a good point.
I think the shock comes from being let down by another person that you trusted, relied on, or were vulnerable towards - and that betrayal hurt you.
The question is to what extent that person presented themselves as 'better than a sinner' and to what extent I projected that onto them instead.
At some point, patients in hospital show signs of improvement and progress towards good health. If the metaphor is to work, if church is effective as a hospital for sinners, then members should be making progress in sanctification for service, in mortification of sin, in bearing the fruit of the Spirit on branches pruned from the dead works of the flesh, in growing in the grace and knowledge of Christ, in having Christ formed in them, in going on to maturity, in being transformed by the renewing of the mind, and being conformed to the image of Christ.
We are not just sinners, we are sinners being saved in the present tense by grace that is effective - as well is in the past tense by justification, and in the future tense by resurrection.

Eastern, direct line from what we believe to what we then do. Especially considering the enormity of the one in whom we believe. It's cognitive dissonance to believe that God will raise me from the dead into eternal life in His presence and at the same time casually disregard what He says for my present life.
Western, floating disconnection between what we believe in the abstract and what we do in the materialist hedonistic utilitarian present. So it is an interesting discussion point that God is the judge of the living and the dead, and I still indulge my vices seeing no connection or relevance between these things.

Feeling that today.
I started off annoyed by all the anti-lightning sentiment here, which I saw as an agenda to promote ecash alternatives.
At the same time I wanted an easier lightning solution, self-custody but easier than a raspiblitz node.
I asked for advice here about Zeus and Mutiny. Seemed that Zeus was for business and Mutiny for nostr plebs.
Two big problems.
1. The 16000 sat fee still went through after I cancelled the wallet connection.
2. A small balance of around 13000 esats is stuck in a fedimint because I didn't get round to swapping it immediately.
So I admit I got sucked into the ecash hype despite my initial clear thinking. The novelty factor is a powerful drug.

Bisq user here, no active involvement with the project apart from occasional market maker trades.
Interested in where you are coming from with that endorsement for Haveno at the expense of Bisq?
First, the endorsement for Haveno. I could understand a general framing around privacy, involving a fork that focuses on XMR and BTC, (Haveno being XMR-First, whereas Bisq is perhaps XMR-Second), but credibility goes down the drain with ETH, BCH, and LTC being described as "interesting and useful". This isn't 2016-2018 Blockchain Euphoria Season.
A few comments on the FAQ's critique of @Bisq
1. Sending bitcoin direct from a bisq account to a coinbase account (or equivalent) is first rate stupidity... does any one really go to all that trouble for NKYC, only to hop directly to KYC?
2. Yes, the BSQ token is an integral opportunity for users to save on fees, and those savvy enough will avoid the token and just do maker trades instead. However, if there is a "a huge privacy concern" that makes it "possible to link", then has this been done or is it just conjecture because a token is being used?
3. With the security patch, which seems to be the only realy concern about the project, did an actual attacker exploit the vulnerability? If the problem has been patched quickly and nothing significant discovered since 2021, that all sounds like good practice rather than compromise.
There's always room for innovation, for example robosats has done away with the dao and relies on lightning, and haveno will have it's own niche too, but it's been a work in progress for ages... and the pitch of 'Bisq is so bad but we still like ETH/BCH' isn't congruent.

1. The progressives arrived to school us and brought their bots to monitor us so we stay in line.
2. The state created a chill effect by going after bitcoiners (who may or may not have breached some regulation), and doing it in a cluster to give credence to a narrative... basically 'get your bitcoin from BlackRock not from each other'.
3. The halving was hyped up to ridiculous levels, giving noobs a feeling of euphoria and immanent moon, only to hit an anticlimax in discovering that the real price action comes next year (first time meme.jpg)
4. The protocol and tools are changing rapidly, not yet settled, and there's too many options and combinations right now, mostly half baked and buggy with health warnings attached, so it's taking a while to figure what all this is good for... one person's amazing use case is another person's waste of time.
5. Custodial or non-custodial and risk of rugging put a dampener on the joy of zap.
6. Changes in how relays do their relaying, and the need to pay monthly for anything half decent that isn't fediverse level spam, means the content of your feed is harder to predict. No algorithm but also little control or predictability unless you hunt for stuff and change up your client and relay combos.
7. Impatience about wanting to monetize effort invested here, since the early promise was earning megasats for memes, comments, and takes.
8. Pura Vida, Good Morning, Good Vibes, Biblestr, Coffee Chain, Pleb Chain and Nostrich love all displaced by 'GFY'... we came to find our tribe but now there's division based on tribal markers, and you're guilty of something if you're not in the right tribe.

First reaction was to pass over it. The name already signalled the content, therefore ignore (since in my mental map that points to the 2+2=5 Math rather than the Numeris en Vires Math).
However, I've been following your npub for a while and get what *you're* about. So that makes me curious to take a look, and this asknostr moment gives me a pause for thought.
Facilitating the right kind of social justice in the world is part of Bitcoin's 'fix the money fix the world' and I can see a genre emerging with books like 'Check Your Financial Privilege' by Alex Gladstein and 'A Progressive's Case for Bitcoin' by Jason Maier... which probably sit alongside 'Thank God for Bitcoin' and 'Bitcoin and Black America'... all converging around a bigger idea that bitcoin restores a sense of justice and fairness in the world - in ways not distorted by fiat fuelled socialism.
That last part is important, as the craziness of the last few years is connected and likely caused by 'late stage fiat' thinking contaminating every institution.
So, having thought about it, I *can* get beyond judging the book by its cover and take a sneak peak inside, but yeah there's room to broaden your audience by changing the name.

The point is to stay solvent in the next few years without needing to rely on your bitcoin stash.
If you manage that, you'll emerge as a sovereign individual with generational wealth, and have a chance to integrate with or shape the new economic paradigm.
If not, then your stash will get you through, and you'll start over with zero instead of negative, which is still something I guess.
It's likely that will be a similar paradigm shift to post WWII, with widespread poverty, rationing, and other challenges. I don't think it will be a dystopian apocalypse but it will feel pretty rubbish in the western world not used to such a rapid drop in comfort levels.
I'm thinking about how sovereign individuals helped to build society in previous generations, in particular the landed gentry and the new industrialists on both sides of the atlantic in the 19th century. It's Andrew Carnegie's "gospel of wealth" and the Lord Shaftesbury types in Britain.
Bitcoiners are already getting started with these kind of projects, but it's something to think about as we enter an era where food, clothing, and shelter will be far more pressing concerns that yachts and lambos. We're having to grow up fast, the age of 69,420 memes is passing and the age of bearing responsbility for the future of humanity is almost here.
PS - Generational wealth may not mean a dragon's hoard, but simply having something in your hand to pass on to the next generation, which they in turn can build on, care for, and pass on again. Generational wealth itself implies training the next generation on the responsibilty that comes with holding, but that's a whole nother story for another time.

Interesting.
The biblical definition is the ability to put the needs of another person ahead of your own, confident that you'll still be fine... you're not diminished when you lift someone else up.
This other kind, the opposite of being proud, is sometimes described as false humility, although there's also admonition to not think of ourselves more highly than we ought - but that's still in the context of what might prevent us from reaching out to lift someone else up. We are called to abandon the kind of self-advancement that career politicians practice, but we're not told to grovel in the dust. Instead, we build ourselves up so that we can also encourage others.
We can't suppress pride but we can displace it by taking our eyes off ourselves and lifting up those around us. The crime of Lucifer was to advance himself in heaven... and for that, he was cast down. The victory of Jesus was to take on the burden of lifting us up to heaven... he stepped out of his comfort and did the hard work... for that he was highly exalted.

If you understand that 'Iran' and 'Israel' are on the same side, then you understand how the world works.
The nations are the puppets, the international networks that connect them call the shots, sometimes the stakeholders within those international networks have turf wars, and so you get the illusion of conflict played out through the nations. These are complex networks, federations with shifting alliances, that are becoming more visible because decentralized media is exposing them, but it isn't a homogenous thing.
It isn't one all seeing eye, like Sauron, binding everyone to his will. Sauron is just a member of various networks, and sometimes he gets his way, and sometimes he gets shafted and double-crossed while others get their way. He attends the bilderberg conference and davos one year, he's left out the next year... he gets to be inside a government refinancing deal with the rothschilds one month, and he gets dropped from a lucrative arms deal the next. It's a heaving mass of chaos from which they hope to bring order... yes they advance their various agendas through chaos, but they themselves are affected by it. Some try to issue their mandates, for example the UN/SDG and the mystical target of 2030. Others come and flip the table, making their own demands for their particular CDBC to be the ascendant one, and bind the others to it. They carve up the nations prematurely like some kind of settled Bretton Woods or Sykes Picot... but others round the same conference object and redraw the borders to their liking... not the presidents of those countries, but the stakeholders in those international networks who have an interest in those countries.
That chaos and rivalry between them is what limits their progress, what keeps them at bay, what gives us hope while more permanent limitations like Bitcoin grow to full term and bind their hands from further mischief. Even in prophecy, the antichrist comes to power on the shoulders of many 'kings of the earth', by which is meant the powerbrokers and kingmakers, not the actual dudes who 'reign'. Eventually, someone will gain enough traction among this heaving band of theives, and unite them under his power... and they in turn will pull all their interests in the same direction after him. For a while it will seem like we're entering the golden age of humanity, and then the mask will drop, and the world will become more desperate than it ever was under the current chaos.
The same prophecies tell us that the spirit of God disrupts and restrains their current progress, and that when God's hand is lifted and they are allowed to unite, it will be for a short while... ending in utter futility and humiliation, as the true king returns to take his throne. Imagine a thousand year conspiracy reaching it's climax and then falling apart within three years.
It's easy to say 'no King but Christ' now, we might upset a few liberals, or be pointed at as fools, but it's hardly a sacrifice. On the contrary, it gives a flavour to our anarchist edge, and tackles the problem that anarchy must still account for human nature being what it is. But now, try saying it when the federation has anointed a global king, who isnt' Christ, and who demands you worship him as a god... like the ceasers did of old. No longer a maxim but a declaration of loyalty to the point of death, and a proclamation to the imposter that his time is limited.
Only then will we see a true golden age, and entry into it will depend on compliance with the protocol that seeded it and will govern it, a protocol we call the scriptures today... and a blessing is promised for anyone who reads the book of Revelation.

On a more serious note, the main thing I appreciated about Peter was his candid telling of how his ex-wife bullied and abused him, in a cluster b personality kind of way. Daring to ask if Bitcoin will really change everything, or just make things a bit less crappy than they are right now, and slow down the rate at which we're all trying to destroy ourselves. I personally accept the more pragmatic line that we won't be fixing the world any time soon, but it doesn't prevent us from having better money and making tyrants think twice.
The global dictator will be a malevolent genius who has stacked, confiscated, and consolidated a large enough hoard of bitcoin so as to command respect and submission from lesser kings, who give way to his superior action. He will overturn this current babylon system, with the now all-too-obvious-evil that it flaunts daily to make us hate it, and he will take it's place.
But he hasn't shown up yet, and he may not appear in my generation, so... in the mean time, I'm making hay while the summer lasts.

Just hope I'm better prepared for the next campaign, which promises to be even harder.
The means and incentives are still there for the perpetrators, and they're falling behind with their agenda. We're good at spotting the current thing but perhaps that's just there to hypnotize us, lull us into a false security. The whole great awakening thing itself feels fake, a new age surge into the vacuum created by the singularity 'you will eat bugs, own nothing, and fear climate change' religion.

Sending notes and replies into the void is demoralising. Maybe my relay game is off? Or maybe my contributions have no value? In which case I'm wasting time rather than investing it in the future I want to see.
I need to rethink this, as I don't want to be a Nostr NPC... just contributing to the network stats in exchange for the illusion of censorship resistance.
I did try, even zapping those who bothered to reply to my ramblings, which in retrospect was paying for their attention. I offered mine for free, because pura vida, plebchain. But now it feels like I'm the senile old man in the corner muttering to his imaginary friends.
I imagine a new npub posting gpt quips and musavir hottie pics would get 100x the interest and engagement, but that isn't the future I want to see.
Sigh.

Yes I use a funny nym for the main account, a photo of a painting I took while travelling in Transylvannia 🧛‍♂️ ... and I use my company logo for the second profile, with bright colours... makes it really easy to know where I'm at.
How are you getting on with #grapheneOS? I'm into my third year now, mostly happy, and continue to tweak and harden, but just wish they'd hurry up with vanadium improvements so the youtube ads disappear for good. I used newpipe separately for videos but sometimes you get a link, and watch it lazily from the browser, and then - bam - the add interrupts your flow... and you think 'why did I uninstall Brave and try to go native again?

This is quite deep.
We got annoyed with xitter because they cancelled our accounts, deleting everything in one go, when we weren't prepared with a back up. We also got annoyed with the hall monitors on xitter, because they started taking screenshots of our content 'as evidence' or got our profiles onto the radar of the wayback machine.
Here we don't have algorithms for engagement farming, we enjoy self-expression, and occasionally we banter with others of like mind. Most of our notes are shitposts and chatter, like writing little notes in class and passing them round. If there's an occasional deep thought, we can capture this and broadcast it elsewhere, in a seemingly more permanent format, for example long form.
I'd like to think that relays or other servers are motivated to archive long form, and don't easily forget or lose these more intentional works during the nukenings, and that may become the case. Other protocols like IPFS were all about this, decentralised storage of files and other content for the long term.
But what are these relays anyway? Services running in the cloud, ultimately managed by a few 'centralized' providers (e.g. cloudflare) that could flush the content or make it disappear. Yes, we hope there are copies out there that would resurface, but honestly that's needle in a haystack if you're not keeping a record of the ID for every note you send... and you don't have your own back up.
That's my amateur perspective, I haven't started messing around with relays yet. But in the end, if you want something archiving, and you think it's worthwhile the effort of archiving it for posterity, you'd best be doing it yourself.
Otherwise, it's okay that stuff is lost and forgotten, it's actually really okay... we have a right to be forgotten, and in that forgetting, we have room to grow.

I want lists, notes, and articles. Maybe on this npub or maybe a new npub for each project I have in mind.
Notes - Atomic notes, zettle style knowledge blocks, is a Kind01 sufficient or are there alternatives?
Lists - what kind of lists can I create? Lists of URLs? Lists of atomic notes, e.g books I read and catalogued? Or is it only npubs and relays.
Articles - am guessing habla etc but will see what leserin recommends when she's finished her investigations :-)

Everything okay with British Banks today?
Most major brands having online and payment problems... at the same time. Old school like Barclays and HSBC, challengers like Revolut, all throwing a wobbly.
Supermarkets locally still accepting cash, but I can't find any decent information otherwise. NPC panic level is moderate, not yet violence for toilet paper, but it's all a bit strange.

You're right.
Switching from the convenience shops to something more sustainable is doable, just the work of changing old habits.
The harder thing is to stop paying insurance, taxes, and so on. In reality, we can do this collectively, for just long enough to create a spark of change, but few are willing to keep that going if individually singled out to carry the losses/pain of that action.
We're too comfortable, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, just that the time for real seismic action isn't here yet.

What am I doing wrong with relays?
While I'm not farming engagement, it's nice to think that like-minded plebs might read my notes and respond, thus making new frens.
However, visibility seems to be stuck at between 5-10 different plebs each time. Which is worse than Xitter ever was!
What's happening? Are my notes really that bad?
