I disable autoplay on all clients. It's enough to build up a picture from words that my fellow plebs are using, and to see the odd photo.
You're right about empathy triggers, and I don't need to waste mine on things that didn't happen right in front of me. I've seen tragedy up close and it's enough to be dealing with my portion over my lifetime.
I understand the scale and implication of the event, and the background and complexity surrounding it. I have sympathy for the family and respect for the lifework of the deceased. I share the universal call for justice and understand the deepening rift in society between those who want to build civilization and those who find pleasure destroying it.
But I don't need to become a voyeur of other people's suffering just because the black mirror in my hand wasn't restrained enough to interrupt my day and serve it cold to my face. Shortly followed by a meme or two, cementing the banality of it all to my already overloaded brain.
I hit this point during the pandemic nonsense, and again during peak eurowar, and most recently with peak ziowar.
Empathy, like attention, needs to be guarded as a precious resource, something to be denied to the machine.
Sometimes, less is more.

Yes. Both are true since we live in the already not yet tension, where Christ is reigning but the kingdom has not yet been delivered back to God. Where we are redeemed from the penalty of sin, and find victory over the power of sin, but not yet removed from the presence of sin. Where the life of God in us is sinless but in tension with the flesh that is clearly still capable of sin.
Clustering verses around one or other of these polarities doesn't prove the point, it just highlights the polarity. There is a day when that tension will be removed. Meanwhile, we groan inwardly for it and continue to strive against sin.
God sees me sinless in Christ because He sees me outside of time, with the completed redemption already applied. It's as good as done for me to be eternally in his presence in the new creation. However, I'm not able to see from that perspective. I'm firmly bound within time, and therefore limited to the present moment where my struggle with sin is real. What to God is a momentary detail that's already been dealt with, is to me my present reality in which I struggle so that Christ may be formed in me.
With a little humility, these polarities become occasions to glorify God rather than strive over incomplete positions. Which I think is the point of Sola Dei Gloria.

The tech bros forget that "men need something to do" can also be expressed as social unrest, crime waves, and revolution.
They're hoping that the affected generation will have such low testosterone levels and weak minds, that these men wil passively accept this damage being done to them in the name of valuations and singularity worship.
And as you say, the third pathway is to grasp the temporary freedom, and convert it into something more permanent and sustainable.
All three will coexist in the chaos. Some will rage senselessly and without direction. Some will resign themselves to an inevitable framework of dependency and compliance. Some will rise up and take responsibility for their own futures, doing the work necessary to convert opportunity into a new reality.
If enough of the latter come together, we will see a hopeful future. If not, we remain islands, beacons of light among the raging and the resigned, during the long dark winter ahead.

First heard about #Bitcoin in 2016. I don't blame myself for missing out from 2009-2015, as I wasn't in those circles and that's fine.
I judged it as something shady to be avoided, since I didn't identify with Mr Robot, and so I left it alone.
By 2017I got interested in what turned out to be a shitcoin. Peak ico season and this token was right in my 'professional space', the company was backed by a VC I recognised and they were exhibiting at a conference I regularly attended.
Dunning Kruger Effect kicked in hard and I became an expert overnight, explaining the business model to my hapless colleagues and building up the courage to sink some personal savings into this bleeding edge. Finally, a break for the little man, a chance to get ahead.
So instead of giving my cryptovirginity to Bitcoin, I marches confidently into the arms of Ethereum and then started exchanging into tokens. First one, then two, and before I knew it I was whoring after a gang of them. Each time I justified it to myself. I knew the domain and pretended to understand the hype in the white paper. Driven by sunk costs I kept going back for more, till I had more tokens than a car wash and was drunk on the hopium that comes before despair.
Then nothing.
I woke up to Bitcoin in 2018. Started reading quality material like the Bitcoin Standard, and decided to get a bit so that I would focus my attention more clearly on it going forward. Best decision I made.
Over the course of 2019 I waited for the shitcoins I held to exit pump, and somehow I was blessed to catch the wave each time. I immediately exchanged into Bitcoin, and little by little my holding grew.
By 2021 I was almost a Bitcoin Maxi, but still clinging to a couple of projects like Monero. At this point I realised that my biggest enemy wasn't greed or gambling degeneracy, it was pride.
If I'd stayed humble and stacked sats my Bitcoin holding would have been 10x what I actually own today. But I'm content because I grew personally through the discipline that came with being a Bitcoiner. I'm glad I learned enough to hold through all the turbulence, and to normalise self-custody and pivoting to a Bitcoin Standard. If I hadn't done that then my current holding would have ended up being zero and I'd still be subsidising shitcoins and trading algorithms with my family savings. At least this way we're debt free and on track to leave a good legacy for our children. Daddy will be legend after all.
