By "looking" I mean that in this mini society single women generally are "looking" for someone, and when they go out together they spend a lot of time talking about men or flirting with men, and I get bored because that is not an interest of mine. I think things are different in other places, which is one reason I really want to leave. Just need to find a place I can afford to live.

I like that half of town knows me and says hello to me and smiles at me in the stores and the pub. I just can't seem to find other old women that like to visit and do things together but isn't looking. Also, I have yet to learn how to get around and do things with a body that can be vertical for only a couple of minutes at a time. I hate when I do things with people who are always asking if I am all right. Excuses?

I go to the pub once or twice a week for about an hour. Yesterday a man at the pub expressed his anger about California suggesting people turn away from petroleum products and toward electricity. He said, "At least oil is renewable. It is being made all the time." I told him we were not going to agree on this subject, but he kept going, getting louder. I said it again. He finally stopped talking to me, but I could tell he was getting worked up. And people wonder why I stay home all the time.

@npub1jma…0as2 Back when I was just beginning, I made a stone (slate and marble) mosaic of an owl, "Night Owl". When I was moving, I gave things away. I gave the mosaic (nearly a meter in diameter) to my niece. I did not know she loved owls or that she had owls living in the tree in her back yard. She had it embedded into the stone wall in her yard. You have owls in your back yard? How cool is that!

I once asked him why he lied so much, even about things that didn't matter. His response was a furious, "So I lie. What do you think you are going to do about it?" My local deer have not been around much lately, though yesterday I cut an apple in eighths and put it on an outside table where I had fed the deer before, and they were gone today. You may have noticed that our country provides very little for its citizens. We call it "capitalism" but the richest 1% own more than 60% of the poor combined, and pay little, if any, taxes. What we have in reality is a plutocracy. The vast majority of us are poor.

Why send an entire train to pick up 20 people? For me, the closest city (only 100,000 people) is 30 miles away. The entire town is made up of around 1,000 people if you include all the outlying areas. There is not a one and done solution that works for everyone or every place. Our country is far too diverse.

The one set of neighbors shows concern about how I am getting along, often doing things for me without me asking or them asking to be paid. I still think it was a good choice to make as it decreases my chances of becoming homeless, but my retirement is not keeping up with inflation. Ugh! If entitlement is the only "norm" a generation is willing to accept, leaving responsibility to the previous generation, they are giving away the possibility of claiming success in their own lives.
