There's an extra benefit to having a diverse cast in a series: making it easier for people with recall issues, including small kids, to keep track of everyone.
It can end up "World of Token Minorities" sometimes, but it DOES add realism AND eases the "cookie cutter cast" issue.

For a desktop browser, I could see it in columns- story on one side, recipe on the other, both accessible/scrollable separately. For mobile, I'd have at LEAST a "jump to recipe" button if putting the story first or an "expand story" button.

It might be alright to say you're dealing with a hyper or hypo *moment* with a sense, but senses fluctuate with our physical state and mood, and we might be hypersensitive to certain STIMULI and hypo to others within the same sense- like my ears being hypersensitive to squeaking, bass, or music, and hyposensitive to Human voices.

I don't really mind the *texture* of most denim, but the *fit* is never right. I'm short with quite short legs, but I hate tightness around the legs at all- if I can wear shorts I will, if I have to wear long pants they better be roomy in the thighs and knees, BUT I have to roll them up several inches.
It's hard to find my waist range too- and it tends to fluctuate. Belts won't come undone in time to use a restroom, suspenders require a tucked in shirt.

@npub1ena…yyv4 I haven't- it's so hard for me to find anything in the range of lotions that I can put up with. Either I break out, they stink, they're greasy, or there's some combination of them.
I wish I could find a sunscreen that was food-based entirely. But even food-based moisturizers like coconut oil can be quite greasy.

@npub1ena…yyv4 People really underestimate how much faster dehydration can set in when temperatures climb- and heat illnesses. If someone doesn't have access to clean water, their attempt at staying hydrated can give them other health issues.
Sunburns increase risk of skin cancer, and if you can't afford much then sunscreen is a rarity. Some- like me- are even allergic to skin products like sunscreen.

However, please pay attention to their disgust. It might be the sheer texture- many of us really can't stand anything slimy. For some, a pre-foaming soap can help, for others, it's worse. (Worse for me.)
Sanitizer might also be in that range of slimy. Spray sanitizers can be better in that case. You can even make a bottle with isopropyl alcohol and their favorite scent.

Something that might help REDUCE your kid's aversion to soap can be teaching them how to use their hands to blow bubbles- how to stretch the film across the gap between their hands and blow a HUGE bubble. The fun can help chase away the disgust or fear.

I need to raise this in less than 24 hours, and I'm really scared that I keep slipping further behind into the range where I might not be able to pay back my debt- which would put me on the streets. A note from a relatively old-hand at the #SocialMedia game- I may not be an expert but I know my way around it alright.
If you want to build a network, it *really* helps to:
Write a bio- even just a few things about what you like and stand for. Be bold- putting out the MOST likely things to chase away people you DON'T want around.
Use #ALTText for your pics- image #descriptions. This lets many MORE people experience your pics and can let you put in important context like WHAT the pic is.

Seiryuu, monarch of the Dragon Empire, has to deal with a traumatized, semi-silent, mousey father who is brilliant but has been a doormat for his whole life and can't even un-doormat around his own child.

@npub1fgl…4jl4 YES. My main two characters are both monarchs- who start out on their thrones too young- and have to deal with the question of "how much of this formal, authoritative mask can I handle? How much of it can I get away with NOT using?"
Plus the conflicts that crop up with their non-royal surviving parents who've ALSO had to learn the mask of royalty- to varying levels of success.

@npub1fgl…4jl4 The more you talk to other Auts, the more easily you'll know if you are one or "n'Aut." Generally, the consensus is that if you have enough suspicion that you ARE, it's pretty likely. There are estimates that as many as 30% of people might be Autistic- so not nearly as small a minority as allistics think. We've just been hidden FROM each other and ourselves by gatekeepers and conformists.

It can help us BE less of jerks to people, especially since once we see how differently minds work- including among our fellow Auts- we lose some of our preconceived ideas on "must" and "should" and "normal."

@npub1fgl…4jl4 It does tend to change SOME things- it can make it harder to keep up the mask because you realize how heavy the burden is, and accepting your quirks can make them more prominent, but *people ALWAYS DO change* and change isn't always negative. If it helps you carve out a more comfortable niche instead of boxing yourself into a claustrophobic one, it can leave you with more energy and creativity- more of YOURSELF to put into your life.

Wanted to share a tiny win I had against a bad habit:
When I get a swollen tastebud, I usually end up biting it trying to get it off- not helping at all.
Managed to restrain that urge, and the swelling went away FAST.
So satisfying.

@npub1xul…aslt If you've known previous situations where a #disabled person has asked for help accessing something, it can help if you look for repeats of that problem and see if you can bridge the gap before the next disabled person who needs it comes along. Like having scrap paper ready for Deaf/Hard of Hearing folks to write with, or paying attention to routes a wheelchair or walker can take.

@npub1cxy…vryr This IS my first time watching Sofia! I've been reluctant to get into the Junior series because some of them seemed a bit too cutesy and... shallow, but things like Lion Guard helped me get more used to it.
I love that every episode of these series has a song or two. I'm a MAJOR fan of musicals.

@npub10r8…wzx3 It's often said that you should think of it like you're describing the pic to someone over the phone- WHY are you sharing it? If it's abstract art you can give the colors and vibe- "pink, spiky triangles" or "haunting grey tunnels" or whatnot. You can go simple- "a grey cat"- or complex- "a fluffy cat, grey with a white muzzle, gazing up for treats with wide blue eyes, her tail wrapped politely around her paws."

@npub10r8…wzx3 I'd say that anywhere that gives you a slot for ALT text is a good spot to stick it, but, say, if you've got a screenshot of a website that has banners and buttons and such, you only need the description of the section YOU want them to notice- like merchandise, or a quote or meme. You wouldn't need to describe the Mastodon logo with a screenshot of the page.

@npub1tnt…jxmw Yeah, I always had this sneaky HUNCH that people could be this awful on a massive scale, I mean, the Crusades and Inquisition and Holocaust WERE actual events, but I *did* hope that we had enough information to guide people away from such massive horrors by now. All those "never agains" didn't hit enough people, it seems.

I don't HAVE kids myself, but I extend this to ALL kids. There's a SMALL exception if it's a picture from a movie- like, oh, Star Wars- in which we know that it's a picture of a child who is ACTING and nobody can find the kid's home through the scenery.

This does two things: gives you an extra post, AND gives you the chance for anti-photo people to share it.
(I personally won't share pics of kids in case there are creeps looking for them, and won't share photos of bigots or other cruel celebrities.)

Something that may be a helpful idea for people who are #CrowdFunding for #MutualAid:
If you have a post with a picture (please put ALT Text,) it might help to make an alternate WITHOUT a picture- especially if your pic has kids in it.
Some people are reluctant to share posts with photos at all, especially if they worry about sharing posts with kids.

I know parmesan has it despite being a white cheese. As far as I know mozzarella doesn't. It's basically the only cheese I can handle, and even then, only if there's WAY more other stuff than mozz. Like a pizza LOADED with veggies. If the mozz is one of the "stars" of the dish, no thanks.

Most breakfasts are a scrambled, heavily peppered egg on 12-grain bread or toast.
Almost every day I've gotta have chocolate- if I don't have any it's because I SOMEHOW forgot. But I'm boycotting most candy bar makers because of child labor and slavery, and ecological destruction.

I'm a vegetarian who ALWAYS despised cheese, and anything with the word "cream" in it other than ice cream. I use limited salt and can't stand most salty snacks, getting unsalted nuts for snacking OR cooking.
I eat a LOT of nuts, especially slivered almonds, raw pumpkin seeds, and pistachios, putting them in soups, ramen, on pizza, and more.
I've grown ridiculously fond of cherries, seaweed snacks, curry, and pesto.

Book one- Pheasant King Dan takes some risks- the biggest one is facing a set of assassins who are holding his palace staff hostage as collateral to trade for the life of Dan's new friend, Dragon Empire monarch Seiryuu.
Book two, Sei's big risk is in admitting zeir mistakes to the Dragonfolk- that zeir best friend IS an assassin, that zei're in love with a man, that zei DID screw up and go into a meltdown, attacking innocents (and thankfully being stopped by family.)

@npub1vzl…9tvw It actually dilutes it when people DO say "a little Autistic," because whether you've coped, masked, or somehow otherwise gone undetected, if you're Autistic, you are 100% Autistic.
In fact, telling people that you ARE Autistic, from a relatively privileged point of "not having lots of trouble," can help destigmatize it for neurotypicals, if you tell them "it presents differently in everyone, I just got lucky to be decently adjusted."
