@npub1cy5…mmrz Well, before the Deck existed, only real viable handheld was the Switch. Honestly if the Steam Deck was available in Q1 2021, I wouldn't have bought a Switch.
Handheld PCs have existed for years before the Deck but they were made in small batches, were expensive & customer service afterwards were nearly non-existent.
Valve proved that this form factor can be successful for the masses, that's why ASUS & Lenovo jumped in. Dell seemed to want to but haven't yet.

What I can say is that with the higher bitrates, the textures and the image doesn't have that compression look that you still get on streaming services like Netflix or those bought/rented from services like Apple Movies or Google Play Movies regardless of resolution.
It's one of those things that if you're used to it, you won't find issues with it until you see the better quality version.

Honestly while streaming a movie is convenient, it's really hard to beat the quality found on the Blu-ray as streamers tend to reduce bitrate to reduce bandwidth cost.
If you love a particular movie & have a Blu-ray player, the Blu-ray option is often the better way to go. I'm not surprised by Oppenheimer Blu-ray selling out.

The US NHTSA has issued a recall on every Tesla vehicle sold in the US with the Autopilot feature installed. Calling the feature a safety hazard as it can be too easily misused due to inadequate driver monitoring.

@npub1rl7…xawh Personally I think it's mainly that Proton/WINE has gotten so good in recent years, there's not a major reason to have a native port. Like you said, many native ports had their issues.
While it's great to have native ports, a poor running native port is infinitely worse than a Windows build that runs amazing via Proton/WINE.
The fact that the game runs on Linux is a huge win, most people don't care if it's native or not, they just want it to work, just look at the Steam Deck!

Even though a lot of HKers have been leaving the city, even in expat communities, you're seeing Mandarin & mainland Chinese fares replacing the HK-based ones.

In a recent study by Consumer Reports have found that EVs are 79% less reliable than their gasoline counterparts. Although EVs contain less parts than their gasoline counterparts, their brand new electric powertrain has proven less reliable.
However, out of all the powertrain types, PHEVs were deemed the least reliable while traditional hybrids were more reliable than their gasoline counterparts.

@npub1537…ngcu It's a really good device, that screen is beautiful. However if you have a Steam Deck LCD, you'll need to decide if the screen, battery and WiFi/BT is enough of an upgrade to spend as it's not a Steam Deck 2, so no performance uplift. If you don't own the Deck already, I think it's well worth it.
If you're looking to slap Windows on it though, you'll be better served by the ROG Ally or Legion Go instead as Valve doesn't really provide much support as the available drivers are old.

As rental affordability deteriorates, it seems like Toronto is slowly inching towards the subdivided flats ("cage homes") issue that is facing Hong Kong.
Charging renters $900/month to share a queen size bed with you is insane.

@npub17x7…naa8 I mean we do have options out there. Problem is that most Canadians seem to still gravitate towards the Big 6 banks regardless of cost & then complain about it.
For those looking to get free banking accounts, look to options like EQ Bank, Motusbank, Simplii Financial and Tangerine Bank. Yes, the last 2 are owned/part of the Big 6 but are free.
There's also other options like your local credit union as well, do check them out as well 🙂!

Would love to see more GPU manufacturers doing this. Not all GPUs require the full x16 lanes, leaving out some lanes wasted. Would have loved to see this on my Radeon RX 6600XT which only uses x8 of the x16 lanes.

@npub103g…q36q @npub19uy…0l79 I mean it should still be a nice upgrade from the P6P to the P8P be it the new AI capabilities, cameras or the upgrade to the ARMv9 microarchitecture.
For me, I'm not a super power user chasing the latest phone. As much as the 8 Series is tempting, since I'm in no rush to replace & there's no good incentives to get me upgrading early, I rather wait for a wider gap before the next upgrade.

@npub19uy…0l79 @npub103g…q36q ya looks like Google is shortchanging us here in Canada which is too bad. If they had better trade-in offers, it might have convinced me to upgrade early.
As it stands, my P6 is still working well, I'd rather just hold on for a little longer, see what kind of upgrade the Pixel 9 or even 10 would be before upgrading, likely gonna wait for when those go on sale before buying as well if they do sales as often as they do with the P7 series.

@npub103g…q36q wished they had a better trade in value here in Canada. Unfortunately the base Pixel 6 I have is only worth C$180 & the base Pixel 6 Pro is only worth C$255. This barely reduces the C$949 for the base Pixel 8 & the C$1349 for the base Pixel 8 Pro...
If the trade-in values up here in Canada were as strong as it is in the States, it probably would convince me to upgrade earlier than planned...

The company stated that they're still investigating the issue, but there's no indications that this was caused by a cyber incident at this time.
