hey everyone that uses Amethyst, you should be aware that the app sends a reaction note (⚠️) when you report another note as spam, the same way as if you reacted with 😀 or 😂 or 🤙 or 🤮. the dev thinks it's the same thing and doesn't want to change this behaviour that only his client does, so when other clients ask for the notes you reacted to, they get the spam notes you were trying to get rid off, effectively spreading them to your audience. Is this the behaviour you expect when reporting?

i use this in alphaama, the only change I make to to hex is remove up to 5 leading zeroes if present (because of pow keys). it works pretty well overall..

I think I would do the same, the battle against states is a very high stakes battle, and you can't expect that anyone will just take that challenge if they don't have to. the world is bigger than just the US, and if they will have a very huge discrepancy in the amount of work and risks thay have to take just to take care of US citizens, jeopardizing their whole operation worldwide, I'd say sorry US citizens... just like a lot of companies have been doing the same to EU citizens which I'm a part of and am already used to not having certain products. legislation is so much wasted effort trying to play by their rules but they can change those anytime to tilt the scales in their favor and rendering your past efforts moot. the only solution is to take technology to a space where they can't do shit, that means outside of regulations and infrastructures they control. there is no middleground, everything capturable will be captured.

any address already on your kind3 is public, and they probably have a name setup in kind0. if I assign the petname "fiatjaf", i'm not doxxing anything. if the contact is supposed to be private, it shouldn't be in kind3 to begin with..

really? I never encountered this with alphaama, it's not supposed to let you follow anyone if you don't already have a kind-3 and it supposedly doesn't create a new one, so it always works with something already existing, and anyway, if you used it, it should contain all those events in localStorage, so you should be able to access old data

clients can have their own db. they're not "automatically" synced with relays. twitter is different because it's just one client with one harcoded relay, so they control the whole experience on what to serve, but if someone screenshots the tweet, twitter can only try to remove those images, but the content is out there for anyone to see.

nop, once a user receives a note from a relay, there's no asking it back. so if I subscribe to you via relay A, and I receive your note, then when you issue your "delete" event to relay A, I already have your note, and if I then ignore your delete event, there's nothing you and relay A can do and I can send it to relay B that won't delete anything.

once a note goes out to multiple relays, you don't know who is actively replicating those relays, so they'll get everything the relay gets. then, that other entity has all the notes and may never delete them, they can in fact, put up a website that displays "all the deleted content on nostr", therefore, deleting is wrongly worded, because it can never be truly deleted. we simply cannot know, hence, thinking that it was indeed deleted is false assurance and is sure to come bite someone later on. it should be seen more as do_not_serve_this_please, but expect it to still appear somewhere.

all my past images on nostr should now be 404, because I didn't buy into their paid plan. that's a simple way to delete your own images from the internet, get a free plan, then just don't pay and they'll get removed for you. might be a good trick to nuke prior identities.

when you create a reply, the only tag you care is if there's a root to include because you already have the reply at hand, so searching for `root` is what's needed, otherwise you get into a if / else war to know if there's no `root` because it's a root or because it doesn't mark tags.. the root id is the constant on a thread.

major labels (and most small ones) won't put their catalog on the open web, they're all behind a centralized streaming service, so the only available tracks are either obscure or "illegal". They'd be eager to send cease and desist letters to relays storing notes with their songs.

ok, I think I'm gonna release the new version of alphaama. I call it the "don't look at the code" release. I changed a lot and haven't really finished cleaning it all up and because I'm still actively modifying it, a "good" release would take much more time to get done. What do you guys think? Should I not give a fuck and release it as is? Should I work on it a bit more? The code works but is a bit messy.. there's probably a lot of zombie code and stuff that should not be there anymore... what do I do? what If I release the link to the dev version and you guys try it out and say your opinions after?
