It looks more like someone testing the pay-in-coinjoin feature than a real "donation". The curious thing here is that the donor used a standard denomination, something that doesn't make any sense here because the address is already known.
I can imagine four reasons for this:
1. Making sure nobody will ever send money to El Salvador using Pay-In-Coinjoin tx again. This is because the coordinators prevent address reuse and then it will be impossible to pay to the same address again. It could be a defense mechanism.
2. Creating a link between El Salvador's bitcoin address and Lazarus addresses. I'm not a chain analysis company and I have no way to know whether or not that tx includes Lazarus funds, but if so, that could be the intention (silly).
3. Inflating the Wasabi calculated anonscore (demonstrating the existence of a bug), but nobody has reported it yet.
4. Donating while playing with Wasabi.

The documentation is correct but not detailed enough. Basically Wasabi can start a new Tor instance or use the one configured by the user or provided by the system as is the case in whonix.
To make sure it uses the system's instance you have to start Wasabi with the option '--usetor=EnabledOnlyRunning' or in the Config.json file set '"UseTor": "EnabledOnlyRunning"', another way to achieve the same is by setting the environment variable 'WASABI-USETOR' to EnabledOnlyRunning.

Do not use Wasabi as a mixer because it is not, but even more important is that after you leave Wasabi you lose the ability to manage your privacy and you will lose it immediately. Here you can see an extreme example of someone who not only used Wasabi as a mixer but also move the money out using the exact same pattern with the exact same wallet fingerprint consolidating the exact same number of uxtos which sum approximatelly the same amount, all in a narrow range of blocks (at the same time, basically).

For those who want to use a model of trust like that we are already distributing the coordinator as part of the Debian package and it is installed and available when you install Wasabi so, the only thing you need to do is to execute the `wcoordinator` and that's it. Then your community can use your coordinator.

I want to put a Wasabi coordinator in each Wasabi client and allow users to decide whether they want to act as coordinators or not.
Currently, a WabiSabi coordinator only requires:
* The gettxout RPC call to verify that inputs being registered are unspent and mature
* A mining fee rate provider to determine how much each input/output should pay to the network
These requirements can be satisfied even by a pruned Bitcoin node and don't present any obstacles.
In an ideal world, each coordinator would announce itself (for example, as an onion service), and then clients could agree on which coordinator to connect to for the next CoinJoin round. However, in the real world, malicious actors could create hundreds or thousands of onion services to maximize their chances of being selected.
Is there any way to solve this coordinator selection problem without creating a centralized directory of coordinators?

Believe it or not, it is even worse than that: Argentina emitted bonds linked to Argentina’s inflation and PBI (gross domestic product). Many people believe that maintaining certain "logs" simply depends on the developers' will, but that's not always the case. Often, storing data is simply a technical necessity that cannot be avoided, or avoiding it means paying a high cost elsewhere. In this case, receiving an xpub means that the server must derive scripts for each of the supported paths and then search for them in an index (utxo set) to know their status. This is a very computationally expensive task, and it would make a lot of sense if the result of that process were stored in a database for future use.
I don't know if that's actually how the Samourai server was implemented, but it's highly possible that it was. If so, it would also make sense to maintain backups of this information as it would allow the service to resume quickly in case of any issues.
What we do know is that Samourai Dojo does store xpubs and addresses, which can be seen in the database script, and as I mentioned before, this makes a lot of technical sense and reinforces the idea that a design based on scanning xpubs requires a database.
I think this is important to know because there is a community of users who maintain Dojo servers to which users can connect, and each one of them maintains a database with this information.
The problem with this design decision is simply that no matter how altruistic your intentions are, databases are difficult to protect.

Immediately after Turbolay and me received Wasabi, everybody suggested that we start looking for some grants to support the development effort. After all, Wasabi is just a FOSS software without any source of revenue, and there wasn't a company to pay our salaries anymore. The most resounding alternatives were OpenSats and the HRF grants, and I was suggested to apply to both of them. However, I wanted to avoid asking for money from the HRF, and for that reason, I applied to OpenSats even though I knew that many of the people behind it were not the biggest fans of Wasabi. Anyway, I preferred to ask for help from those who I perceive as part of the community. My application was rejected. Turbolay applied before me but his application was rejected too.
Turbolay then decided to apply for one of the HRF grants and asked me if I was okay with him applying for both of us together as the "Wasabi team," and I agreed. So he did it. It was a mistake; I shouldn't have agreed, but I knew that even though they usually highlight how important privacy is for democracy, they would not support us (maybe they cannot do it, who knows). The application was rejected.
After that, Turbolay started looking for a job, and fortunately, he found a non-fiat one! But I cannot avoid feeling that if I had released the Wasabi Silent Payment donation button earlier, he would still be 100% available for Wasabi. Even though Turbolay is still making great contributions, he's a fucking hero, a real one 🫡

Let me explain it better. There are situations when if you stick to the rules your expression will sound ugly. Esperanto is proof of this. So, in English this is solved by changing the pronunciation of the words, for example "In the end" the word "the" sounds different than in other expression because the "In thE End" is problematic.
In Spanish we cannot do that. Spanish forces us to map one to one the sounds with the text so, or we accept that uglyness in our language or we have to change the word and use a different one.

Payment in coinjoins is even simpler than that: you just schedule as many payments as you want and they will be done in one or more coinjoins. So, instead of registering scripts that belong to you, you register scripts that belong to the payees. Nothing is more private than that, at least in Bitcoin.
Also, there is a market for coordinators but you cannot compete for fee but for liquidity, time, minimum output size, leftovers, etc. We just fixed one variable, all the rest are still there. And the most important part: you don't need to trust on how trustworthy the coordinators are, they can't take you money and run.

It was a necessity. After zkSNACKs handed over development and maintenance to Turbolay and me, we inherited a set of servers with a massive bill—prepaid for just two months—that we could never afford. Plus, coordinators needed to be operated by independent freedom fighters who couldn’t afford big servers for free coordinators. So, we had to refactor the software: enabling it to run without a full Bitcoin archive node, optimizing block filter delivery with a database and smart caching, improving Tor circuit management, reducing the size of cryptographic proofs for credential verification, etc, etc, etc. We are still working on that direction, it is just that we need to release also features that make users willing to upgrade, that is limiting how fast we can move on.

Very good question. I think the answer depends on the real scope of the question because **running** the coordinator is simply executing an executable file as any other software however there are at least a couple of things to have in mind:
* It depends on Bitcoin RPC so, you need to have a fully synchronized bitcoin node to connect to and,
* In most of the cases you want to make it accessible as an onion service, in which case you need Tor or, as an authenticated domain in which case you would need a webserver such as nginx.
That said, imagine you already have a synchronized bitcoin node then the easist way to build the coordinator is by running `nix build github:walletwasabi/walletwasabi -o wasabi`. Then execute the file `wasabi/bin/WalletWasabi.Backend`. Do not forget to edit the file `~/.walletwasabi/backend/Config.json` and set the rpc authentication string. That's pretty much all.
It is not a complex process but I agree with the idea that we have to improve it. BpcPayServer plugin is great because it makes it extremely simple to start a new coordinator, we have to achieve the same.

We've completely redesign our network isolation code.
When Wasabi Wallet development began, .NET lacked native support for routing HTTP traffic through Tor, despite having an excellent HttpClient. There was no built-in SOCKS proxy support, so Wasabi's creator implemented the SOCKS protocol to interact with Tor's SOCKS proxy and developed a custom HTTP/1.1 implementation from scratch. This allowed us to maintain network-level privacy by isolating identities behind different types of requests.
However, as time passed, our custom HTTP implementation started showing its limitations. It lacked support for redirects, so we had to build that feature in. When response compression became necessary, we had to add support for a couple of compression algorithms. Additionally, our coordinator announcer uses the Nostr protocol, which is based on WebSocket, meaning we would have had to implement the WebSocket protocol ourselves, too.
It became clear that we needed better building blocks. Continuing to implement low-level network protocols ourselves wasn't sustainable. For example, making a request to an HTTP/2 server would have required extensive work.
The good news is that with .NET 6, proxying HTTP traffic through a SOCKS proxy is now natively supported. This means we can replace all of our custom code with a higher-quality, more performant, efficient, and less memory-hungry HttpClient. This significantly reduces the complexity and volume of our code, improving both maintenance and performance.

I don't know when you tested it or with what coordinator or if the coordinator charged you a coordination fee at the time (now paid coordinators are not allowed anymore) so, I cannot explain why you paid what you paid.

Wasabi is on a track of transformation to eliminate its dependency on any central entity, such as the backend and the CoinJoin coordinator. The first stage is already complete, and anyone can run a coordinator. In the second stage, we are working to make deploying a backend (an API that provides compact blocks and some other things) easier and cheaper. The idea is to remove this idea of an "official" backend and that users can connect to whatever backend they want. We are almost there.

YES! With WabiSabi coinjoins, most transactions don’t generate change, but small leftover sats for some users that are uneconomical to return can add up. When they’re enough to pay for a new output, that output can be taken by the coordinator (or "donated" to miner).
How much can that be? It varies based on network fees and the number of participants in each round. For some, it’s a nice passive income. But for some people in countries like India, Nigeria, or the Philippines, it can be a lot!

It seems @npub1pww…en60 really likes anonymous payments via CoinJoin. Yes, the payee can't track you back, and there’s no change involved, which is great. Although it’s a bit slower since you have to participate in a CoinJoin, it allows you to make multiple payments in the same transaction. This results in not only more private but also cheaper payments.
