But we don't have voting rights in the US, and in many other places. And elections aren't always upheld. And there IS NO perfect voting system (mathematically, no voting system can possibly satisfy all criteria of rational choice theory)

What worries me most about political systems (US most of all) is how much relies on expectations, processes, or structures that have little or no accountability mechanisms that are actually enforced
There's almost nothing ensuring we maintain a functional government, save for the hope that voters are able to recognize whether the government duties they need will be upheld by their voting choices — and that voting choices are upheld in elections, and voting rights are upheld, etc

The grifting and profiting is all kinds of gross and disappointing as usual, but the corruption in the sense of corrupting rational choice and any structures or expectations that ensure we have a functional government that is capable of performing the expected duties 🤷🏼‍♀️😰🤬😩
I remember coming to this realization 8 years ago, but I can already see it's going to be even worse. There's far too much in US government that relies on people following structures and expectations and processes that have zero legal binding, and the few that have any binding can mostly be either ignored or dismantled without anyone held to accountability.

Complementary example: 1920s & 1930s Germany, wherein the various parties against Hitler were more interested in their own agendas than in forming an uncomfortable coalition against Hitler, and, so, thus Hitler, etc
Not entirely unlike the 2016 US election or any of the last 20+ years of US presidential elections (with bonus challenges via lack of voting rights or functional electoral systems)

I've lost touch with so many friends from my 20s as our social media becomes increasingly fractured. LinkedIn is now the only place where I've consistently maintained some connections (and only work contacts in the last 10 years)
My paper and electronic address books haven't been able to keep up in decades. The first smart phones came out well into my 20s, and I still look back and wonder who half of the 6 different Allisons in my phone contacts are, let alone the many Davids and Christines and Eileens. Which of these two numbers for the same person is current? Which Dana was the devastatingly hot one? What do I do with the contact info for the people who are dead?
For all its failures (plus genocide), Facebook was the one most reliable place to reach friends from 20+ years back. Now? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Just a few phone numbers work. 😞

Mental health tip: Grounding is fantastic for everyone! Grounding can help with calming agitation, for emotion regulation, or managing PTSD & C-PTSD. It's great for everyday situations, like feeling confident before leading a meeting or giving a presentation, before a hard conversation or an interview, or just a good way to finish the day and maintain work-life balance.
My favorite grounding technique is to find something that stimulates each of your 5 senses. It could be something you like, something familiar, something that gives relaxy vibes, whatever.
E.g.:
• something you like to eat, such as a piece of candy or chocolate
• a scent you like (tea/oils/perfume/etc)
• a song or white noise
• a material or texture or weight or fidget or cat or dog or snake
• some pictures, visualizations, art, darkness, or bright light
I carry around lychee candy, lilac scented oil to rub on my wrist, an emergency calming playlist (seriously), photo albums of my cats, and a ball of tungsten!

A hard thing to recognize as trauma survivors is when we're stuck in scarcity mindset.
Scarcity mindset shows up as conserving resources, or as fears and defensive reactions around other people using resources (especially shared resources, but even their own).
We can develop scarcity mindset from past scarcity experiences, but also from traumatic situations (aka, both). Scarcity mindset is also absorbed and exacerbated from people around us.
It is very hard to recover from scarcity mindset without abundant resources — and hard to perceive or recognize abundance when we have it, and still hard to recover.

I am indescribably angry that the world is the way it is.
