One lesson I'd like to share about organising protests against the far-right and authoritarianism. Here in Munich, where we had protests with 200.000+ participants, there was one simple rule.
No politicians were allowed to speak on stage. Only activists.
The politicians, no matter what they promise at a protest, go back to their parliaments and continue to do effectively nothing. It's our protest. Not their photo-op.

Davon kommen 40% aus Russland, 40% aus Qatar und der Rest aus den USA. Zur Frage Belgien. Die Quellen liefere ich nach. Aber hier erstmal Zahlen. Belgien hat in 2023 insgesamt 361469 GWh Erdgas exportiert. Davon gingen 211661 GWh an Deutschland, also 59%. Wo kommt das Erdgas aus Belgien her? Und wieviel davon aus Russland? Belgien selbst verbraucht ca. 166000 GWh. In Summe verteilt Belgien also ca. 528000 GWh. Die offiziellen Flüssiggasimporte in Belgien belaufen sich auf 61000 GWH, also 12%. 1/n

No, I currently have 2x Heltec V3, 1x Heltec Paper and a Lilygo T-Deck, so everything ESP32 based. Battery use is not really a problem for me, the orange node that I carry with me, lasts for a full day with its 2000 mAh battery. The other node is connected to a wall wart ATM.

There’s a whole dystopian series hidden in the way mesh networking was destroyed by lobbyism and money, BTW. We had mesh networking in low cost hardware with the OLPC. A way to create local networking and communication without any possibility of centralised control and surveillance. Which is why it had to die, IMHO.

The #A1mini is "just" a tool, unlike all the other #3Dprinter in my collection, going back to 2012. All printers before were projects. Every printer a diva in its own way. But the #BambuLab JustPrints(tm), so I can focus on other things. That's truly a big change, allowing me to do things like this. Design, print, iterate. That's the way it should be, IMHO.

The road ahead would be IMHO (In My Humble Opinion) to first have an open standard on metadata in g-code, as a second step a decoupling/abstraction of intermediate g-code that allows for more decision making and optimisation "at the nozzle" which in turn could lead to the decision that g-code might not be the perfect vehicle for that so we could work on "something" that fits better as intermediate standard. The goal being that your printer knows better how to get the perfect result.

A somewhat simpler goal: material independent slicing. Meaning that you have some pseudo g-code coming out of the slicer and the printer itself creates the final g-code itself, depending on what filament is loaded. So the same pseudo/intermediate g-code can be used to print an object with PLA and after that with PETG without the need to send new g-code to the printer.

The Next Big Thing for open source 3D printing, IMHO: finite elements and stress simulation embedded directly into the slicer software to reduce the amount of material needed to print an object. So many objects I download could be slimmed down (and look better) while still doing what they are supposed to do :)

Yes, I reboot my machines quite frequently. It goes fast, it creates a clean state to work from and it tells me without mercy if I forgot to persist an important change. I don't trust people that brag about the uptime of their machines. To me it just means that they might be missing some important security updates and could get into real problems should an unexpected reboot happen :)

#CrossBorderRail Unexpected upgrade to 1st class as there was a mismatch between DB and ÖBB and the reserved seats for carriage 25 on the Railjet RJX62 from Vienna to Munich simply do not exist. So the train chief gave me a first class seat to solve the issue. Thank you, ÖBB!

I don't block ads. I block trackers. I am especially sad how even the media I pay for with a monthly subscription try to flood my browser with hundreds of trackers. It doesn't really make a difference if I pay for a subscription or not. I am quite sure that the trackers pay more to the media company for subscriber behavioural data. So I do my best to block those trackers. But I also know these sneaky ***** will go to great lengths to go after me regardless of how many times I say "deny all".

The parcel arrived yesterday, unpacking, setting up, updating firmware, calibrating took 30 minutes. I washed and rinsed the print plate with water and detergent, lubricated the rails, loaded up a roll of iBoss PLA+ in orange, used the eSun PLA+ profile in the slicer and started printing. So far absolutely perfect results.

So yes, the stories are true. I am impressed with the #BambuLab A1 mini. It is the first of (many) 3D printers I own that really JustWorks(tm). And I started early with 3D printing. In the first picture you see my original RepRap Huxley that I got as a kit at the time it came out. The A1 mini shows how much progress has been made. 200€ well worth spending, IMHO.

Dutch people can NOT get double citizenship, only in very rare cases. According to Dutch nationality law, you *automatically* lose Dutch citizenship when you voluntarily accept citizenship in another country. Austria has a similar law.

Updated the toot after a good discussion with my best friend who studied philosophy. Replaced „atheist“ with agnostic. Added more qualifiers to point at me and my responsibility for my actions. But also how I can not control my ideas once I share them and shouldn’t be tempted to even try.

I am stoic. I am atheist. Why? The main reason is that I accept responsibility for my actions. I have no excuse for what I do. No bearded man in the sky that I can refer to (that's the atheist part). I also recognise that my Big Thoughts can only become reality if many more people make my idea their own and I will not be able to control/guide how ideas evolve. That's the stoic part. I still believe that sharing ideas in the open works. That's me :)

So a measly +1.7% in votes results in a "landslide" victory for Labour (+205 seats). While three parties reach 0.7% and the party with the most votes in that group (Workers Party of Britain) gets 0 seats and the one with the least votes (Sinn Fein) gets 7 seats. Very confusing, IMHO.

The UK voting system is weird. I took the numbers from 3 minutes ago (7:44 CEST) and sorted them by percentage.
14.4% of votes translates to 4 seats for one party, while 11.9% translates to 66 seats for another.

The negative way of seeing this is also quite simple. Voters in the US are simply not interested in having discussions or changing their preference. CNN did everything to make this a show, not a debate. They left the viewers isolated from fact checking or any kind of commentary. Just two old guys throwing platitudes around. Not even a studio audience to get a reaction. Politics as scripted reality show. Le sigh. 2/2

Seems the candidate debate didn’t move the needles a lot. It’s a bit like Twitter. Those that are „in“ completely overestimate the influence of their discussions on the outside world, where the overwhelming majority simply couldn’t care less. Same here. People mostly watched to see their opinion justified and as that was already predetermined, nothing in the debate could cause change. It’s mainly some media pundits trying to blow it up. Maybe a network problem somewhere from your side? I just tested the connection and it works as expected. This was from a netcup server to my mailserver at OVH.

Some further research on the plug and socket size leads me to 4 pin XLR as candidate. Robust, standardised and with a rating of max 50V/5A per pin severely oversized for the use case of charging a small electric vehicle with max 240W :)

So so close ;) The $10 TC66C USB power meter thingy has a PD button to switch between different output voltages. Unfortunately only PD 3.0, not 3.1, so it cannot ask for anything above 20V.

Not a problem with USB PD 3.1. You always start and fall back to 5V/0,5A. Only when PD communication is established (and continuously signaled) you can ramp up to higher voltages/current. Any disturbances, back to 5V/0,5A

Phantom power is 10-20mA at 40-52V. I am talking about 5A at 48V, which needs a different approach. Which USB-PD 3.1 offers. Just needs a CC pin to negotiate.

Which is why I think that USB-PD 3.1 is kinda perfect for small electric vehicles. Can all be done with 3 pins and up to 48V/5A. I don't really care about the physical connector at this moment, but standard USB-C is too finicky and not weather proof if you plan for public charging stations. XLR *could* be better. @npub1wpn…v6wc

I'd even go a s far as saying that centralised "social networks" work as a catalyst for NOT solving issues but instead making threats seem bigger than they are and that this has led to the growth of fascism and authoritarian tendencies in many countries.
