I don't block ads. I block trackers. I am especially sad how even the media I pay for with a monthly subscription try to flood my browser with hundreds of trackers. It doesn't really make a difference if I pay for a subscription or not. I am quite sure that the trackers pay more to the media company for subscriber behavioural data. So I do my best to block those trackers. But I also know these sneaky ***** will go to great lengths to go after me regardless of how many times I say "deny all".
