I live with a high risk person in a red state that defied mask mandates. We've avoided infection by never leaving the house. It's exhausting. I want this taken seriously. I want people to know it isn't over.
I do not trust my neighbors to be honest about symptoms or to bother with home tests.
I'm angry about it and the government has done a terrible job assuaging our fears.

The point of the original comment was that, as opposed to doing the research to discover what works or erring on the side of caution to protect the most vulnerable people, the CDC has chosen to go "I don't know lol" and shrug. They are abdicating their responsibility at a time when politics is more important than public safety or health. What they are doing should be criminal.

Good morning, y'all. What's the biggest "oh shit" moment you've had, preferably early in your career when you didn't realize that this kind of thing happens all the time.
I'm specifically interested in #InfoSec, but other areas can feel fee to reply if they wish.
I was just a few years into my career in Information Security when this happened. I was "that person who knew Perl and liked regex" and I was tasked with building a poor man's IAM as a proof-of-concept.
I was not a developer.
I have never been a developer.
They needed something that could snarf a file from HR, munge it, and then shove the results into AD.
It created new users and updated existing users. I wasn't really comfortable deleting users with it.
One day, there was a strange bug where the email address field didn't come through. When the script ran overnight it overwrote the email address of 6,000 users with the value of "nul". They could not get email. Nobody could. I walked into my little lab area and was just sitting there with my head in my hands.
I was certain I was getting fired.
The AD admin team reached out to me to let me know they were restoring a full backup they'd done two days before.
He restored the backup in less than an hour and everything was back to normal.
I still expected to get fired.
Instead, within two weeks, they had transferred the process to actual developers like they should have done in the first place.
Within another two years, the homemade kludge was being replaced by an actual commercial solution because no human being should have to write switch / case statements to handle every possible variation of how names might be capitalized or spelled or how "Jr." or "III" or two middle initials, or no middle initial might be presented in a giant CSV of strings.
Anyway, what's the thing that happened to you to let you know what sometimes, "shit happens" and it's not the end of the world? That you work on a team and it's just part of the job to come together, fix it, and move on?
There's even a Change Management category for it: Break / Fix.

My team is geographically dispersed across the United States. A couple of folks have small labs at their houses for malware analysis and forensic investigations. We can also pull in full forensic hard disk images over the network to a central server.
Here is my question: does anyone know of a cloud provider who would let us perform malware analysis in their cloud environment? We'd like to have a shareable place to upload wonky files so we can tear them apart. We already have online sandbox systems available, but we cannot do anything that isn't available in the menu options for the sandbox system.

I need translation help for trying to translate the word "Waterborne" to Greek.
Waterborne in context of the story I am working on is another way to refer to personality traits associated with water signs in Astrology or the suit of Cups in Tarot. You'd also use it to describe oceanids, naiads, or other water nymphs.

Since there has been a huge influx of new users, I decided to write a new #Introduction and actually pin it to my profile.
I'm pushing 50 years old and I live in a Red State that is trying to make me illegal. I'm a #pansexual / #bisexual #transgender woman married to a heterosexual cisgender woman who frequently talks about the current hellscape for people like me in my Toots.
I'm #NeuroDivergent / #ND which is probably why all of these sentences start with "I".
I've worked in #InfoSec for a little over 20 years. I've had lots of roles in #SecEng, #SecOps, and #ThreatManagement. I taught myself #Perl, #Bash, #SQL, and #PowerShell. I'm decent at #JavaScript. I can read #Python and #Ruby. I enjoy automating things and turning manual processes into scripts.
I've been the primary #CareGiver to my wife for 8 years since she developed a chronic condition and went on disability.

I'm a fan of #Horror / #HorrorFam, #HorrorMovies and #HorrorBooks, especially the existential dread of #CosmicHorror or #LovecraftianHorror. I tend to sympathize with the nameless terrors. I am not a fan of mindless slashers, unrelenting gore, or torture porn. Over-the-top, egregious gore that crosses into the absurd is fine, though, so I am a Sam Raimi fan, obvs. Also, #HorrorComedies are underappreciated.
I'm slowly reconnecting with my #Pagan roots. I knew some stuff about #Tarot and had a friend who as a tree a lifetime ago and I'm trying to rekindle that.
We've got #Cats and they are our kids. I also happen to love #Frogs, but we don't have any of those.
