Spent some time reading about silent payments with BitBox—very much looking forward to this, but they aren’t real yet for broadly applied purposes.

Yes, they let you hand out a single address that never reuses outputs. Great for privacy. But the rub: the sender has to know to send a silent payment and their wallet needs to support the procedure.

Right now, BitBox can receive, but unless the sender is using a wallet that knows what to do (like BitBox itself), the transaction will fail. A Bitcoin wallet that hasn’t also adopted silent payments won’t cut it—it won’t do the cryptographic handshake needed.

So: silent payments aren’t plug-and-play yet. But hopefully they will be, once more wallets adopt. Feature wins like this can take time—but this one’s worth watching.
