I hadn't planted this, Polemonium caeruleum (Jacob's-ladder, lehtosinilatva). It was a nice surprise while I was in the middle of pulling weeds that were choking the rose bushes (that I had forgotten behind the raspberries). I biked to the studio in the rain, and forgot to bring extra trousers. I messaged my husband to mildly complain about working in damp trousers. He replied, "well, just take them off and let them dry." "Uhuh, sure" was my response, thinking he was being comically wink-wink.
And this is when a handmade smock comes in handy and I have to admit he's right.

All is not alright with the world (or my hair), but at least my over-70 years-old relative has reconsidered his plan to fly solo to Italy this summer to "hang out with the locals" without any Italian language skills.
The plan has been postponed until winter, which gives me hope that this is going to be the ongoing narrative - lots of hype and declarations of "the plan" and then postponement, on a yearly loop.

When we were biking through a residential area the 15YO asked if I liked these kinds of "hice".
That brought up the topic of irregular plural construction in English, and the 15YO stated that as the irregular plurals have standard kinda rules, whynot apply them equally. We say mice and lice, why not hice.

There was an anti-racism protest held at the Valkea shopping center in Oulu today, in response to two violent assaults on children and an adult in and around the center.
Meanwhile, Finnish government officials either post toothless statements on X or claim that racism wasn't a factor. I have hope in the people in Oulu who speak out against the rising bigotry (and violence) from the far-right, but I don't hold out much hope in the government actually doing anything.

We're taking in two cats for the summer, as a favour for friends who are travelling. One is our "rental" cat, Harmi, and the other is Sara, also a grey cat, who was with us last summer (and has a penchant for getting on window ledges and balcony rails, whether she falls off or not).
Sara arrived yesterday and was not thrilled that there are already four cats living here. It's gonna be a learning experience for all of us. And it will answer the question "is more than four cats a good thing?"
